Title: “To investigate the ways for reducing gender discrimination in the workplace of
business organisation”. A study on ASDA
INTRODUCTION
In a dynamic business environment, attainment of gender equality is one of the important
factor for business organisation because it provide support in attaining growth and
competitiveness at market place. In order to develop an inclusive and dynamic working area, it is
significant for company to ensure that each and every workers has got an equal opportunities so
that they work properly. Mainly, gender discrimination is major concern for every business
organisation now days as managing the same is also crucial because it put adverse impact over
the employee performance (Alteri, 2016). Thus, manager of the company is responsible for
providing equal and fair opportunities to both male and female at working area. This can be
beneficial in building positive and healthy working environment wherein all the employee share
their values to accomplishing their targets in an effective manner. Along with this, promoting
equality at workplace is also significant for company in making workers more productive that
directly contributes in enhancing the possibility of attaining competitive advantages by reducing
employee turnover. Current research is based on ASDA, is a famous British supermarket retailer
that operate their business in over the world with the aim of attaining competitiveness at market
place. Company also focus on implementing equality at working area so that employee does not
face any kind of discrimination over there.

Rationale of Research
The main purpose of carry out this investigation is to analyse the ways to eliminate
gender discrimination at working area of business. This research topic provide wider
information to investigator that support in making entire activities of investigation more
realistic and valid in nature (Bader and et. al., 2018). Along with this, researcher is also
improve their skills and knowledge about the specified research topic that contributes in
developing their personal and professional career. In addition to this, researcher also
evaluate appropriate information for company in improving its overall performance and at
the same time also reduce the gender discrimination.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Impact of gender discrimination in the workplace of an organisation
According to Bishu and Alkadry, (2017), In a dynamic business environment,
maintaining gender equality is one of the major concern for company as it affect overall
performance of the company and its workers as well. Gender discrimination is refers to the bias
behaviour of leader towards the female workers in context of paying as they pay less as compare
to male workers. This is the reason that discrimination is arise at workplace. Due to this, women
employee feel less motivated towards their job roles and also leave the organisation. It may
increase the employee turnover of the company. Thus, it is crucial for manager of the company
to ensure that each and every employee treated equally and also get fair pay at working area.
With the assistance of this company can enhance their productiveness and at the same time also
established competitive image at market place.

Challenges that may be faced by ASDA at the time of managing gender discrimination at
workplace
According to Wilson, (2019), Now a day's discrimination on the basis of gender is a
common challenges that faced by majority of business organisation. Due to bias behaviour with
employee may reduce their productiveness at working area as they get demotivated towards the
allotted job activities. In context to this, there are some major challenges that can be faced by
company while managing gender discrimination at workplace are as follows:
Conflict among workers: If workers are discriminated on the basis of gender at working
area may increase the possibilities of arising conflicts among male and female workers. It
may also affect over the productiveness because sometime the main reason of
discrimination is that women workers pay less as compare to male. Due to this, female
workers are reduce their interest towards the working activities at working area.
Lack of employee involvement: At the time of implementing equality and eliminating the
gender discrimination, employee reduce their involvement within the business activities
as they does not feel comfortable in sharing their view points with others. This is reason
that company face issue of negative working environment in which employees fail in
attaining their targets.
Ways by which ASDA can eliminate gender discrimination at working area
According to Fuhl, (2018), It is one of the important activity for business
organisation to reduce gender discrimination as it can be beneficial in boosting employee
morale and at the same time also motivate them to give their best efforts for attainment of
set goals and objectives. With the assistance of this, both male and female improve their
productiveness at working area. In this context, there are some appropriate ways that can be
used by company with the aim of eliminating the gender discrimination are as follows:
Be transparent: It is consider as an effective way in which company maintain
transparency with their workers. By this employee feel their presence at working area
without any kind of discrimination. This will support in boosting employee
productivity at working area and at the same time also make their motivated.
Review salaries and standardize pay: In order to reduce discrimination at workplace,
manager of the company review salaried and also set the standard pay for both male

and female. This can be effective in eliminating the issue of gender discrimination at
working area and at the same time also reduce employee turnover.
METHODOLOGY AND DATA COLLECTION
Research methodology is refers to the important process that used by researcher to
collect, analyse and interpretation the data in order to draw a valid conclusion at the end of the
investigation ( Brown and et. al., 2019). Mainly, it includes various techniques and methods that
may assist in undertaking an effective research and have reliable outcomes. This is the reason
that investigator is responsible for selecting a right research method so that reliable and authentic
results can be easily attained.
Types of investigation: It is significant to for researcher to use an appropriate technique
to carried out the research that can be contributes in taking valid decision. It is divided into two
types including qualitative and quantitative method. In order to perform current research
activities, researcher will applied quantitative research because it assist in acquiring measurable
information through which valid outcomes can be attained effectively. Along with this, it is also
refers to the systematic empirical investigation in which data is collected in the form of
statistical, mathematical and computational techniques.
Research philosophy: At the time of undertaking an investigation, it is refers to the belief
of the way in which data should be collected, evaluate and implemented. This can be beneficial
in developing the knowledge and nature of the research issue that being addressed within the
study. It is classified on the basis of two philosophies such as positivism and interpretivism
research philosophy. As per current investigation, positivism will be used by researcher as it
provide genuine knowledge on the basis of specified topic and research area to draw a valid
conclusion.
Research approach: It I refers to the plan and procedure that includes by investigator at
the time of analysing as well as collecting information. The main focus of investigator to
interpretation of data in order to draw a valid conclusion at the end of the study. In this relation,
there are two type of research approaches such as inductive and deductive research. In order to
perform current investigation activities, researcher will use deductive research approach because
it provide logical information to reach a final conclusion ( DeSouza, Wesselmann and Ispas,
2017). Mainly, it includes beginning with the theory and at the same time also develop
hypothesis on the basis of existing theory that may aid in analysing the final outcomes. With the

assistance of this, investigator can easily take a right judgement and also attain reliable results to
make overall investigator more authentic.
Data collection: Under research, there are various sources of gathering information on the
basis of specified research area in order to make an effectual judgement. Mainly, it is refers to
the process of collecting and measuring information on the basis of research variables ( Eskridge
Jr, 2017). It is categorised on the basis of two methods such as primary and secondary method of
data collection. As per current investigation, both methods will be implement in order to gather
reliable and in-depth information so that an investigator can easily take right decision at the end
of the study. With the help of primary method of data collection, structured questionnaire will be
prepared that consist close-ended questions asked from selected respondents in order to
understand their opinion on the basis of research topic. On the other side, secondary method
assist in undertaking a systematic literature review on the basis of different research objectives.
As, investigator includes views and opinion of different authors to address the research questions
so that they can easily get a detailed analysis and provide reliable outcomes within the
investigation.
