CHAPTER 1
1.1 Introduction
Equality and diversity is useful for every individual in attaining their key set of potential
which is free from any sort of prejudice and discrimination. The minimum wage is considered to
be as the lowest possible remuneration to the employers which has been paid to the workers
(Fidrmuc and Tena, 2019). This study will highlight on examining the concept of minimum wage
and how it traps people in the poverty. This study is very significant in completely understanding
the key concept behind the equality and diversity within the organization to provide appropriate
wages which fulfils the needs and requirements of the individual person.
1.2 Research Background
Royal Dutch Shell a public limited company which has been founded in the year 1907 by
Marcus Samuel, Henri Deterding, Samuel Samuel and Jean B.A. Kessler. This company is
headquartered in Haagse Hout, The Hague, Netherlands. The registered office is in Shell Centre,
London, England. It is the third largest company across the globe which mainly deals in oil and
gas, lubricants, petroleum, natural gas, LNG, Petrochemicals, etc.
1.3 Problem Statement
The key problem statement while carrying out the research is how people gets trapped in the
concept of minimum wage rate within the organization.

1.5 Rationale
This study is useful because it helps me in carrying out the research for the academic
purpose. This research is useful in enhancing the knowledge and also contributing by developing
new understanding associated with the subject matter. Moreover, this study is also carried out
because of the personal interest of the researcher. The proposed research topic will be useful in
contributing towards the development of the new understanding associated with the subject
matter. This is one of the key current issue which helps in alleviating poverty by giving optimum
wage level to the employees to meet the basic needs and requirements. This study is carried out
because it will be useful for the researcher to find effective recommendations to alleviate poverty
and maintain equality and diversity within the organization.
Chapter 2: Literature Review
This part of the chapter is useful in gaining in- depth understanding and knowledge
associated with the research aim and objectives. It helps to gain argumentative statements in
order to attain better results and outcomes.
To understand the key concept of the equality and diversity associated with equal wage to
employees within the workplace.
Prowse and Fells, (2016) sought to determine the fact that, equality and diversity is useful
in ensuring that every individual within the organization has equal set of opportunity within the
workplace. Diversity is useful in taking into account the difference between the various group of
people which helps in achieving the key potential and free from any sort of prejudice and
discrimination. This is the good practice which ensures that the services provided to the
employees within the organization are fair and accessible. It ensures that people within the
