“To investigate the impact of globalisation on the automotive industry and the major
challenges it brings. A study on automotive industry.
PART 1: RESEARCH PROPOSAL
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Background of the research
The automotive industry comprises a different range of organizations and businesses
involved in the design, creation, manufacturing, marketing, and merchandising of motor
vehicles. It is one of the largest economic sectors by revenue in all over the world. Gl obalisation
is the process of integration and interaction among governments, nations and organisations. It
introduces as an effective process in which economy of a country have become increasingly
inter-dependent and integrated. Globalisation is directly impact on corporate structure of
multinational organisation. Along with this, enterprise have various departments within an
organisation (Calabrò and et. al., 2013). Therefore, globalisation is directly impact on corporate
structure of company by increasing sales, improving living of standard etc. Apart from this,
there are different challenges faced by company while expanding their business functions such as
unfamiliar cultures, human resources, organisational communication, mastering marketing etc.
All these are main challenges which will highly impact on growth and performance of
organisation.
Research aim
Main aim of this research is “To investigate the impact of globalisation on the automotive
industry and the major challenges it brings. A study on automotive industry.

To analyse the opportunities for automotive industry due to globalisation.
Rationale of the research :
Main reason about choosing this topic is to investigate the i impact of globalisation on the
automotive industry and the major challenges it brings. (Cavusgil and et. al., 2014). It is a
multinational organisation that help in development of economy, improving living standard of
people etc. Along with this, such type of research will also support a researcher by enhancing its
literature review skill, data analysis and interpretation skill. Thus, it is important study for
academic and practical manner. As it will provide accurate and appropriate information about the
impact of globalisation and challenges faced by company.
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
A literature review introduces as a systematic, reproducible and explicit method for
evaluating, identifying and synthesizing the actual body of recorded and completed work
produced by investigators, practitioners and scholars (Crane and Matten, 2016). There are
different purpose of literature review such as: it will help a researcher to identify gaps in
research, relationship of work, area of prior scholarship etc. Therefore, in this section all research
objectives and questions will be addressed in proper and systematic manner.
The influence of globalisation on the functions of the automotive industry.
Automotive industry, all those business and activities participated in the manufacture of
motor vehicles, covering most elements, such as bodies and engines, but excluding tires, fuel and
batteries. main products are traveller automobiles and light trucks, considering pickups, vans,
sport utility vehicles and so on. Commercial vehicle like delivery trucks and big transport trucks,
often called semis), via essential to the sector, are secondary.
According to the Beverly Bird And Carol Kopp, (2019), globalisation introduces as a
spread of technology, information and products across national borders. Organisation gain a
competitive benefit on different fronts via globalisation. They can decrease operating costs by
designing and manufacturing products in internationally. They can purchase raw materials in
reasonable cost because of the diminution and removal of tariffs. In Jaguar Land Rover, there are
different departments are work together such as marketing, operations, Human resource etc.
Operation department: Globalisation impacts operations strategies of automotive
industry in both favourable and unfavourable manner. There are some global force that can be
applied as an operations strategy such as global sourcing, scanning and learning, economies of

scale, and research and development. It will help an organisation by increasing supply chain
capabilities, meeting customer demand, managing and reducing costs, ensuring security in
supply etc.
Human resource department: Impact of globalisation on human resource development
and management is important. Human resource department of Jaguar Land Rover must adopt
their practices and thinking to include foreign regulations, cultural difference and technological
development. All these will help an enterprise to improve their success and growth at
international level.
Marketing department: Globalization leads to maximised competition which is mainly
related to product and service cost, technological adaptation, target market, quick response,
speedy production by organisation etc. When Jaguar Land Rover produces with minimum cost
and sells cheaper, it is capable to enhance its market share.
The challenges faced by automotive companies during the globalisation era.
According to Dunning, (2014), there are number of challenges which is required to be
faced by any of the company which is in the phase of globalisation. The first problem that they
faces is realted with the market policies because it is found that every country uses different
types of policies for promoting their business so that additional benefits can be taken. Second
one is tht, at present there is tough competition in the market because there are number of
organisation which is dealing in the field of automotive so Automotive Industry must know that
how they have to deal with those situations.
It is said that when ever any of the organisation is entering into new market they must
find the manpower as it is one of the must important sources for conducting day to day activity
so that it is also one of the challenge that need to be faced by Automotive Industry. Even there is
the problem of language because every nation have different language which is very difficult
task to deal so it one of the harder job for organisation to be familiar so that more number of
customer can be connected with the company. In addition, different rules and regulation are also
required to be followed so it will be important for organisation to understand that how they read
and apply the law so that working condition can be made more understandable.
The opportunities for automotive industry due to globalisation.
As per view point of Cavusgil and et. al., (2014), globalisation is very much important for
an organisation and also very much helpful for them in growing and developing their business in
3

different boundaries. It use to provide huge number of opportunities for all the organisations of
different sector, so that they can increase sales and revenue of them. For auto mobile industry,
globalisation can be considered as huge opportunity, where they get chance to expand their
business in different nation, so that the number of customers at customer base can get increased.
Along with this, it help them serving huge number of customers, so that the sales, revenue and
profitability of them can get increased. Also, the major opportunities which Automotive Industry
get due to globalisation is, due to this only they are able to expand their business in different
boundaries and now are able to serve huge number of customers and also have large number of
loyal customers of them. Another opportunity which is grabbed by Automotive Industry by
globalisation is, they are able to increase the level of their production, and also are able to
decrease the cost of production of them. This all also helped them in increasing their profits and
also help them in growing and developing their business at huge level. Globalisation is a process
which has provided ample number of opportunities to Automotive Industry, due to which they
are able to achieve their goals and objectives and also able to become one of the leading luxury
car seller of the world.
CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research methodology refers as an essential process applied by researcher to collect
accurate information about the topic. In this chapter, different methods will be included which
are determine as under with proper justification:
Research approach: It introduces as an effective procedure and plan that consists of the different
steps of broad assumptions. In this, data collection, analysis and interpretation are consider main
steps which will help a researcher to collect accurate data about the topic (Dunning, 2014). In
order to collect data, research approach mainly divided into two parts such as qualitative and
quantitative. In case of qualitative approach, it is a method of inquiry that creates better
understanding on social science and human, to analyse the way people think or feel. On the other
side, there is quantitative approach, it is applied to create numerical information and hard facts or
figures, by employing mathematical, logical and statistical techniques.
Justification: Those type of research approach are essential but according to the study,
qualitative research approach is more suitable. As in this, all participants are capable to give data
or information in their own words and way. Apart from this, quantitative approach is more
difficult to determine the reliability and validity of linguistic data. Thus, qualitative approach

will be used for this research project because it given quality data about the study (Kennedy,
Welch and Monshipouri, 2017).
Research techniques: There are different types of research techniques such as questionnaire,
case studies, interviews, modelling etc. All these ate consider best techniques for collecting
accurate data about the topic.
Justification: According to this project, questionnaire will be used by researcher because
it will help them by providing reliable and valid data about the study. Apart from this, case study,
modelling and interview are more time consuming research techniques which is not suitable for
this project.
Data collection: For collecting accurate data about the topic, primary and secondary are best
sources of data collection. In case of primary source, questionnaire will be applied because it
help in accumulating proper data about the topic. On the other hand, under secondary research,
magazines, books, review of literature etc. are used by investigator to gather in-depth
information related to the study.
For this project, primary methods as a type of data collection will be used for collecting
accurate data about the topic. For this, questionnaire will be used by researcher for accumulating
reliable and valid information regrading the topic. For this project, questionnaire method is going
to applied and it is sent to employees within automotive industry. With the use of e-mail and
many other techniques, researcher will send questionnaire to the employees. For this project 1
questionnaire for employees will be used and in this, 10 questions will be prepared by researcher.
Justification: Those type of data collection will be applied in this project. For collecting
primary data, questionnaire will be used whereas for accumulating secondary data, literature
review will be used.
Analytical technique: There are different types of analytical techniques such as BCG matrix,
Benchmarking, Brainstorming, Swot analysis, Mind maps, Gap analysis, six questions etc. All
these are essential for getting proper output of research (Shenkar, Luo and Chi, 2014).
Justification: According to the topic, Gap analysis more suitable and appropriate
analytical technique used by researcher to analyse gaps in previous research. This technique will
support an organisation to analyse relationship between globalisation and their corporate
structure.

Limitation of Research: Research limitation is divided into two parts such as possible
methodological limitation and possible limitation of the researcher. Under methodological
limitation, sample size, lack of available and reliable information, lack of prior research studies
on the topic, self-reported data etc. On the other hand, limitation of the researcher are mainly
related with access of data, longitudinal effects, cultural and other kind of bias, fluency in
language. Thus, those type of limitations will be faced by researcher will conducting primary and
secondary research about the topic. There are some limitation which is faced by researcher while
completing each activities or tasks of dissertation. Formulation of research aims and objectives,
implementation of data collection methods i.e. primary and secondary, selection of sample size,
lack of previous studies in the research area, time etc. All these are major limitation which will
impact on researcher while completing research in accurate and systematic manner.
Ethical consideration: There are some research ethics principles that were applied by
researcher such as informed consent, confidentiality and anonymity. All these principles should
be followed by researcher which will help them in completion of research activities
systematically and ethically.
Timeline of research activities
Time introduces as a more essential and useful resource used by each organisation or
researcher to identify accurate time period for completion of research activities. For this, Gantt
Chart is consider as a type of bar chart used by researcher to illustrates a project schedule. This
type of chart show the dependency connection between activities and actual schedule status. It
gives a graphical illustration of a schedule that supports an investigator to plan, coordinate and
track particular activities in a project (Stromquist and Monkman, 2014). It is commonly applied
in project management which will help a researcher to complete project within given time
period. It is one of the most useful and popular ways of displaying tasks or activities against
time.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Globalisation describes an effective way through which people and countries of the globe
integrate and interact. Main purpose of conducting this dissertation is to analyse the impact of
globalisation on the automotive industry and the major challenges it brings. For collecting in-
depth and accurate information about the current topic, literature review and different types of
methodology have been used by researcher (Abrol, Prajapati and Singh, 2017). Along with this,
data collection and data analysis have been completed with the help of questionnaire and
thematic analysis. At last, reflection has been related with the journey of investigator while
collecting information or data about the study. Conclusion and recommendation have been done
by addressed each objectives of research in accurate manner.
METHODOLOGY
It introduces as a theoretical and systematic analysis of the research methods used to a
field of investigation. This section of research methodology includes different methods which
will help an investigator in accumulation of reliable and valid data about the study (Baylis,
Smith and Owens, 2017). There are different methods used by researcher and with the help of
these methods, they were collected accurate amount of information from the respondents.
Sampling method: There are basically two types of sampling method which as
probabilistic and non-probabilistic. All these type of sampling method help a researcher to select
sample size from total population. According to the current study, random sampling as a form of
probabilistic sampling was applied by researcher. As it not require maximum cost, time and
resources of an organisation. Therefore, with the help of random sampling 50 respondents have
been taken into consideration (Beck, 2018). On the other side, non-probabilistic sampling is not
much appropriate for this project because it need more time, resources and cost of researcher or
company.
Research Philosophy: There are basically two types of research philosophy which is
interpretivisim and positivism. According to the current study, interpretivisim philosophy was
applied by researcher (Buckley, Doh and Benischke, 2017). As it help them in evaluating data or
information in effective manner which further outputs in arriving appropriate conclusion. On the

other side, positivism philosophy was not used for this project because it is not suitable and
appropriate in carrying out investigation effectively.
Research approach: There are two types of research approach which is inductive and
deductive. According to the current study, inductive approach was applied by research. As it help
them in gathering quality and accurate information about the topic (Crane and Matten, 2016). On
the other hand, there is deductive approach which was not suitable and appropriate for this
project. As it require information in form of numbers, numericals and hard facts.
Data collection: Data was collected with the help of primary and secondary source of
research. In case of primary research, information about the topic was accumulated with the help
of questionnaire (Fagerberg, Laestadius and Martin, 2016). As it help a researcher by providing
reliable and valid data which is related with the study. On the other side, in case of secondary
research, information was gathered through the books, journals, literature review and many other
articles relevant to the topic.
Data analysis: For analysed data, thematic analysis technique was used by investigator. It
is a best technique which will help an investigator by analysing accurate information from
participants. In this case, different themes has been made on each questions which will support in
completing each activities of study in minimum time period (Kushwaha and Sharma, 2016).
Research reliability and validity: This is also consider as an important and essential part
of researcher which is based on questionnaire. It is most significant and essential instrument of
primary research which was used by investigator to accumulate reliable and valid data about the
study.
Research strategy: It is also identified as an essential part of research used by
investigator to accumulate proper and relevant information regarding the study (Los, Timmer
and de Vries, 2015). Case study, observation, survey, questionnaire etc. are consider main
research strategy for dissertation. All these are essential but according to the study, questionnaire
strategy was applied for collecting reliable and valid data about the topic.
Ethical consideration: There are different principles related to ethical consideration in research
project. Some principles are determined as under:
Participants of research should not be subjected to harm in any kind of ways (NA, 2016).
