INTRODUCTION
Overview of research
Cultural diversity refers to quality of diverse cultures as opposed to the culture for the Global
monoculture. It is related to having the various culture respects to difference each other. The
culture diversity arises when the differences in population are presented well within an
organisation or community (Zhong, Wayne and Liden, 2016). It is on the basis of Race, age,
ability, sexual orientation, Gender and many other factors. Cultural diversity allows
identifying and appreciating "way of life" which is not inherent, so that people can build
bridges of trust, appreciation and understanding through cultures as they communicate with
others.
Background of Research
Culture is regarded as the underlying principles which guide people's behaviour.
Workplace cultural diversity is a consequence of workplace traditions, values, customs or
beliefs based on gender, age, ethnicity and some other factors. Workplace cultural diversity is
when organizations are open to recruiting workers from all kinds of backgrounds; irrespective
of ethnicity, religion and community. As businesses hire and maintain a diverse group of
workers, it offers numerous advantages for both the organization and its workers. Tesco is a
British multinational general merchandise and groceries retailer with headquarter is in United
Kingdom. This company was founded in year 1919 though Jack Cohen. As Tesco is large
size organisation and in this firm conduct its business at global level so this is obvious for
them to send their staff members at various locations for learning purpose and also they
integrate the staff members who are working in organisation. Women employees in Tesco
encourages gender diversity and facilitates a community of dynamic and inclusive thought in
which people feel empowered to express their opinions and communicate how others
contribute value for company
Rationale of Research
The rationale behind conducting the present investigation is to know about the cultural
diversity concept in detailed manner and its impact on the productivity of employees as well
as organisation (Sabharwal, 2014). The main reason behind selecting this present topic is too

aware about the different issues which are related to cultural diversity at workplace. It helps
in enhancing learner’s knowledge and the skills so that it can able to conduct any
investigation in future. In an organisation there are many staff members working which are
belongs to different cultures and work together for attain the common objective. There are
different ethnic groups which exist in an organisation. From conducting the present
investigation learner can able to deal with any kind of issues and complexities in future and
able to get the positive outcomes.

Does cultural diversity impact significantly on the productivity of its employees and
the performance of the organisation?

LITERATURE REVIEW
This is described as a comprehensive overview of preceding specific topic study. This
surveys articles, journals, documents associated with a particular field of study. This will
provide theoretical basis for investigation and help in defining investigative nature. The past
research subject should be defined, enumerated, evaluated and explained too. In conducting
the present investigation, data will be collected using the secondary sources on cultural
diversity area.
Impact and benefits of a diverse culture in the workplace
According to opinion of Neil Kokemuller (2020) Cultural diversity can impact
workplace in many different manners. The employees from the culture diversity have various
opinions, customs, beliefs, traditions and norms. The negative impact of cultural diversity and
benefits are given below:
Impact
Poor communication- The main issue arises from cultural diversity is
communication. At workplace staff members have different countries with the various native
languages as it is complex to communicate with each other for them. From this, they are not
able to communicate with the each other. This is imperative that organizations should train
the staff members on the cultural awareness and also encourage them to discuss their various
opinions in order to collecting interaction into conflict.
Unresolved conflict- The differences develops at workplace arise conflict between
those people which come from the various cultural background and have the various
perspectives about to handle the functions which arise at workplace. Inability to say where
some other person is coming from can be prohibited resolution about the conflicts. When the
staff members feel like they cannot able to solve the issue then the negative working
environment can be developed.
Benefits
Respect- The diverse workplace helps supervisors to understand the differences of
others due to positive impact that multiple individuals make ( Mone, London and Mone,
2018). Where colleagues are open for learn new things from one another, they understand

that diversity helps them to act as a team better. Consequently, gain mutual understanding
for different co-workers.
Reputation- The commitment towards diversity states about the equality and values
of an organisation. These are the characteristic have develop positive impact on goodwill
with customers as well as suppliers. The firm hires capable candidates for job and enhance
organisational reputation.
Difficulties faced by employees due of cultural diversity at workplace
As per opinion of Lourdes Fernandes (2020), Embracing the cultural diversity at
workplace is necessary for the business that look for making the business operations
competitive at global level. Diversity in the workforce occurs as businesses hire workers with
diverse backgrounds and experiences. Tesco see diversity in the workforce as an opportunity
to create a stronger company. In Tesco, there are large numbers of employees working and
they belong to different backgrounds which arise the issues to communicate with the each
other. From the cultural diversity, there are some issues faced by employees at workplace
given below:
Various understandings of professional etiquettes- Under this, workplace diversity
can be result in employees from various cultures brining the various values, attitudes and
etiquette at workplace. While it can be rewarding as well as enriching the preposition and can
result of ill feelings and misunderstanding among the team members.
Integration across multicultural teams can be complex- This is necessary to foster
integration between the teams so that the people from the various countries do not work
properly as isolation. It can be main challenge when there is underlying the prejudices among
cultures and making them to inclined minimum to be work with the each other (Srivastava,
and Dhar, 2016). In context to this, negative cultural stereotypes develop the negative impact
on the growth and productivity of staff members at workplace.
Conflicting working styles across teams- Working styles as well as behaviours
toward work may vary widely, reflecting values and beliefs and aggregating differences. If
not acknowledged and accounted for, conflicting work approaches can put pressure on
profitability.

Effect of cultural diversity on employee productivity and job satisfaction
According to Bardoel and et. Al., 2014, cultural diversity is one of the important
aspects that directly put their impact over employee productivity and job satisfaction because
at working area different people perform their task who belongs to different culture and
religions. It also put both positive or negative over the company and its workers as well. One
of the one advantage of managing cultural diversity is to increase innovation and creativity
that directly supports in improving overall productivity level employees. With the assistance
of this, company may also reduce turnover of company through which they can easily retain
workers for longer period of time. If workers are effectively performing their task then they
easily attain their targets in stipulated period of time. In addition of this, it may include
various negative aspects or effects such as lost productivity, dysfunctional conflict, difficulty
and many more. All these are negatively impact over the company and its workers as well.
Apart from this, diverse cultural perspectives may assist in inspiring creativity and drive
innovation. It can be increasing the positive performance of employee that directly
contributes in establishing positive working environment wherein workers perform their task
in a team for attaining all the common goals and objectives in an effective manner (Schneider
and et. Al., 2017). Furthermore, cultural diversity in the working area is when companies are
allowed to hire quality employees from different culture and nation that may increase the
possibilities of creating innovation through which firm can easily enhance their positive
brand image and at the same time also sustain for longer period of time. As there are some
effectiveness of cultural diversity on employee performance and make them satisfied towards
the job roles and responsibilities like enhancement in motivation, encourage workers, develop
positive working environment at working area and many more.
Apart from this, Tesco also focus on equality and diversity policies at working area
with the aim of developing positive and healthy working environment so that employees can
easily perform their task and activities in an effective manner. As, Tesco committed to
providing an inclusive working environment wherein employees feel their value towards the
company. In this, workers give their best and company are committed to ensuring that all the
employees get equal opportunities so that they can easily develop their skills. Furthermore,
building an inclusive culture so that employees has the opportunities to enhance their
productivity. Tesco aims to make difference by raising awareness of diversity, culture and
inclusion within Tesco. With the help of this, company can easily improve their positive
performance at market place and at the same time also retain them for longer period of time.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research methodology consider as an important process of gathering, analysing and
evaluating information that help investigator to draw a valid conclusion at the end of the
study. One of the main purposes of undertaking research methodology is to draw a valid and
reliable conclusion that help in making whole research more effective and successful as well.
It may include various methods and techniques which used by researcher to collect accurate
information about the specified research topic.
Research philosophy: It is referring to the beliefs and ways in which data should be gathered
towards the research topic and are. In this regard, it is classified on the basis of two
philosophies such as positivism and interpretivism (Hogan and Coote, 2014). For this
research, investigator will use positivism as it provides clear and accurate data that support

quantitative and mixed method as well. For this research, mixed method will be applied by
researcher as it helps in providing detailed and measurable information that directly
contributes in improving the possibilities of attaining positive and reliable outcomes. This
may directly contribute in reducing issues while gathering data. The main reason behind
selecting quantitative method is to give measurable information that support researcher to
take accurate valid decision within the study. Along with this, qualitative method is to
provide detailed data that support in making overall project more reliable and authentic as
well. With the use of these method, investigator easily gather reliable information that
directly contributes in attaining positive results at the end of the research and also make it
more successful.
Research approach: This type of section is also important within the research as it includes an
effective way wherein data is collected and analysed. There are two type of research
approach such inductive and deductive research approach. Under this research, investigator
will use deductive research approach as it provide data that is measurable in nature and also
provide fact data. By this investigator develop an effective research that assist in improving
