management”. A case study on Asda stores Ltd.
Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1) Research project description
Leadership as well as the management plays a vital role in success and betterment of
organisation as they are the ones who are responsible to properly guide and direct the employees
of a company (Burkinshaw and White, 2019). Thus, presence of gender equality among the
leadership and management is essential to maintain a positive atmosphere and working
conditions in company that facilitates better motivation and efficiency in employees through
yielding a atmosphere of fairness and equivalence at place of the work. Asda stores ltd is a well
known and famous British supermarket retailer having its Headquarter in West Yorkshire,
England, UK. A wide range of products is offered by Asda to its customers which includes
grocery items, fresh food, clothing, home products, leisure, health and beauty products, and all
other entertainment and pet products. Further, Asda is having more than 525 stores across
various locations of UK employing thousands of individuals thus, management and leadership
become more vital and crucial for Asda stores ltd. Beside this, proper implication of equality and
reduction of gender gap is also become essential and mandatory for Asda to provide a more
positive and healthy workplace to employees and other individual in order to boost their morale
and satisfaction level for better growth as well as success of organisation.
1.2) Research aim and objectives
The main aim of conducting this research is, “ To have better understanding about gender
equality in leadership and management to lead a positive atmosphere in at workplace”. Thus, the
aim of this research project is to get evaluate about the various reasons that lead to workplace
discrimination and to find out the ways that can be adopted to have better equality and diversity
at the workplace.
Research objectives
The objectives of this research project conducted on Asda stores Ltd are as follows:
To study about the concept of gender equality in leadership and management.

To evaluate about the various reasons that lead to enhancement in workplace
discrimination and facilitates gender inequality in the organizations (Flynn, Haynes and
Kilgour, 2017). To develop a better understanding about implications of gender equality in leadership and
management together with evaluation of various ways to have equality at workplace of
Asda stores Ltd.
Research Question
What do you understand by the concept of gender equality in leadership and
management?
What are the various reasons that lead to enhancement in workplace discrimination and
facilitates gender inequality in the organizations?
What implications are lead by gender equality in leadership and management together
with evaluation of various ways to have equality at workplace of Asda stores Ltd?
1.3) Reasons for choosing this research project
A research rational is required before the starting of any particular research project. Many
other researchers having a doubt a rational with a farming of hypothesis. It is set of reasons
proposed by researcher by implementing more research as in particular research topic or any
subjective element where it can be formulated from the documentation stores by which the books
and journals helps to execute the research perspective to mapped the favorable outcomes on
which research is being made. It also helps to generates the optimal information regarding the
topic where the other process of research can executed.
1.4) Activities and timescales
There are various activities and task associated with an investigation thus, use of Gantt chart
has been made to systematically represent these activities together with their time duration and
timescales. The Gantt chart is basically formed as horizontal bar graph which represents the
graphical presentation and diagrammatic reflection of all tasks and steps related or
commencement with particular research which allocate the transparency as well as clarity in
research (Adams, 2017). Gantt chart is being very useful for the research as it generates and lead
to estimated time duration for every task which leads to better understanding with starting till the
ending of a particular task.

Chapter 2: Literature review
2.1) Introduction
Literature review is a fully brief summary of a particular research topic where it includes
the various sample of surveys, questionnaires from article, newspaper, books, online sites which
is associated with the particular research. It is a basic analyzing of a topic with having motive of

attaining the requirement as well as considered the current research topic (Flynn, Haynes and
Kilgour, 2017).
2.2) Literature review
As the literature review is considered as leadership management and its impact in the
organization.
Examine the study about a concept of gender equality in leadership and management.
According to the Olivia Kyriakidou, 2011. Leadership and management has two
different subjective factor where the leadership is makes influence, motive and inspire to
employees towards the objectives which have to achieved by them which enhanced their self
confidence as well as morale while Management driven the physical efforts to employees as in
positive manner where their workforce contribute the optimum skills and provides the outcomes
as a valuable for organization. It is having a fair judgement in terms of providing the authority to
male or female there is no discrimination between them as of now Females are more efficient
than males, where there is stereotypes expectations and different perception related with other
works by which specific work allocate to men creates conflicts in terms of clash of interest,
hierarchy for other promotional activity (Chuang, 2019). By interpretation of various challenges
where the women’s and men’s having their sophisticated experiences in managerial position at
workplace where they have contributed with each other. Similarly, in ASDA company where the
business is dealing with groceries items and other products and services by which it managed
and operated by women’s and men’s and Asda company have the efficient and effective
workforce in genders.
To identify about the significant reasons which leads to enhancement in workplace with
discrimination as well as providing the facilities of gender equality in context of organization.
According to the opinion of Katrina Pouspourika, 2018. As in the organization there
should be presence of gender equality at workplace where the desirable goals have to achieved
by both men and women and they have to need enjoy with the similar opportunities or work
platform, rewards and resources. There is probability of discrimination of gender equality in
terms of competencies to handle the task or any projects, it seems to always underestimate to
women that they can’t handle any work in context of business activities and men are very
compatible with them but now there is change in gender equality specially in business
perspective where women are handling as well as operation works weather it is related to human
