INTRODUCTION
Social cognitive theory is a psychological theory that defines the influence of experiences of
a person, actions of others as well as the environmental forces on individual health behaviours. It
administers opportunity for social support by instilling self-efficacy, expectations and utilising
observational learning along with other reinforcement to accomplish behaviour change. This is
an essay report which is based on the case study of Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospital in
which A&E to be downgraded in the major overhaul of services in the hospital (Carding, (2017)
HSJ 20th September 2018) . This report examines social cognitive theory factors in execution to
the case study. Some aspects of behavioural, environmental and personal factors from the theory
are discussed in the report.
MAIN BODY
The social cognitive theory (SCT) was developed by Albert Bandura and it is a modified
theory of Social Learning Theory. The theory was developed in year 1960 and modified in year
1986. According to the social cognitive theory, learning happens in social context with reciprocal
in dynamic interaction of an individual, behaviour and environment. The main characteristic of
this theory is its focus on social influence as well as on internal and external social
reinforcement. It considers unique way where a person acquires as well as maintain behaviour,
while considering social environment where a person performs the behaviour. It also taken into
consideration past experiences of an individual, which component into whether behavioural
action will happen. This experiences of past impacts expectancies, expectations and
reinforcements, all of which demonstrates whether an individual will engage in particular
behaviour and the cause why an individual engages in that behaviour (Boateng et al. (2016) ).
The main aim of social cognitive theory explain the way individuals regulate their behaviour by
reinforcement and control to accomplish goal-directed behaviour which can be maintained over
the time. The theory emphasizes on the significance of modelling, imitating and observing the
behaviours, emotional rejections and attitudes of others. This report reflects the personal factors,
behaviour and environmental factor of students in relation to buy a car for this they need to
working in the Poole hospital. Working in this hospital is not only beneficial for developing the
standard of living of a people but also provide variety of opportunity to sustain in the business
world with good status and reputation (Belgiawan and et. al., 2017). As NHS It considers the
