1.2 Negotiation with work and academic supervisor
I would negotiate with the supervisor of Thomson Holiday to appoint me as a HR trainee.
I have the required qualification as I have done my masters in travel and tourism and I have
completed my Bachelor program in HND course related with Travel and Tourism. I will not
disclose your confidential information to outsiders. Along with that, I am a quick learner and will
try to give desired results to the firm within stipulated time period. Also, I am good in dealing
with diverse people and knows various languages as well (Bakker., Demerouti. and ten
Brummelhuis., 2012). In addition to this, I will try my level best to understand and solve the
grievances of human resources that are working in Thomson Holiday. I have a vast knowledge of
travel and tourism industry and especially about company. This will be a good beginning for my
career that would help me to gain industry experience especially as a HR trainee which is my
area of interest. Despite of this area, I would improve my knowledge regarding tour
management.
1.3 Business constraints on the work experience
There are many business constraints that can affect my work experience that are as
follows: Instructor availability: This factor can act as a business constraint. Developing a separate
training program might not be possible. So, Thomson Holiday trains their trainees
simultaneously under an instructor. Sometimes, instructor might not be available as they
will be engaged in training other employees. This factor can affect my work experience
because my doubts will be left unclear and I will not gain as much knowledge that is
required (Dragoni and et.al., 2011). Time availability: The heavy workload among employer of cited firm can also affect my
work based experience. They have to complete their targets on time, so they will not allot
their time to me as much I require. In this situation, many of my doubts and questions
will remain unanswered.
Seasonal work: Tourism is a seasonal business as there is high work load at the time of
holidays as compared to off season. This will act as a hindrance to my learning as at that
time, I’ll have less interaction with the people of Thomson Holiday. In off season, there
will be less work which will enable me to gain knowledge. But, the period in which
services of firm will be highly in demand will act as a constraint for me and that will
cause impact on my work experience.

2.3 Benefits of the proposed activities
The proposed activities will benefit me along with the company, Thomson holiday in the
following ways:
It will benefit Thomson holiday by making them aware about their loopholes in their
training session. For example, in the recruitment and selection procedure, Thomson do not take
written test in an interview round. I will give them suggestion to take written test. It will check
the knowledge of the applicant ( Lange, 2014). It will helps an organization to build positive
image in the mind of people. After giving me training, I will assist them in their work like
maintaining employees records, will line up interview.
It is obvious that when I will join Thomson holiday as HR trainee. I will learn many things from
the workplace. I will gain knowledge abut my job profile, its role and responsibilities. I would
gain enriching experience from the company and learn many things from experienced people of
Thomson holiday. I will be a platform to prove my abilities and calibre. I will train me to enter
into this competitive world. I will be taught how to deal with different people. It will not only
enhance my professional knowledge but also helps me to work on my interpersonal skills.
TASK 3
3.1 Requirements of placement confirming to all related codes of practices.
As a HR trainee, I come to know that manager of Thomson complies with the prescribed
code of conduct of placement. I have examined that the HR manager follows the law related to
employment, for example: Equality Act, which basically means that all persons of UK should be
treated equally. So the manager appoints the person giving them equal opportunities. They do not
discriminate on the basis of caste, creed, sex, religion, etc. while I was working as HR Trainee, I

come to know about the heath and safety measures taken by Thomson Holiday and have seen
health and safety law posture, certificate showing an employers liability insurance (Gruenewald

computer workstation on regular basis. They have kept a first aid box and a person who can
assist the employees in taking medicine and medical assistance when required. They maintain the
proper records of their employees with identity proof, pre employment criminal records that is
been made mandatory by the law. They have provided people working with children and
vulnerable adults the facility of vetting and barring scheme. I have also noticed that they have
barred certain data as sensitive information to be used by employers. For example, information
related to civil and criminal records is restricted for certain job profile. Thomson holiday
complies with the National Minimum wages Act, 1998 in fixing remuneration for employees on
the basis of their age group. So I have gained knowledge about legislation related to
employment. Thomson is complying with all the rules and regulation framed by law.
3.2 Systematic records of work undertaken
I have recorded my work experience as a HR trainee in Thomson in a diary. I have
maintained the daily records of the things I have learnt in this tour operator's company. Where I
notedown the recruitment procedure followed by them. I have grasp the motivational techniques
followed by them in my records. Initially I was given a report where I have to give my views and
feedbacks to check out my knowledge regarding Human resource. It will help me to better
understand people in my life. It will help me to recall things in future when I will professionally
work in HR department (Bakker., Demerouti. and ten Brummelh). I have maintained the diary
and recorded the selection procedure, way they conduct interviews, factors on the basis of which
HR appoints individuals in Thomson holiday. I have attended all the training session of this
organization and take the note of each and every thing in my diary. I have made a summary of
every soft copy given to me for training. This will help me to enhance my knowledge. I have
maintained log book and spreadsheets to keep the record of all my experience as a HR Trainee in

3.4 Suggestions for improvement and review
I recommend that they should make improvement in Recruitment and selection
procedure. I suggest to add the criteria of written test, where employer can efficiently check out
the skills and knowledge of an individual (Gruenewald and Smith, 2014.). This will assist the HR
department to eliminate the candidates that do not match their eligibility criteria. They can also
take aptitude test to check the analytical and decision making skills. They will come to know
about the writing skills of an applicant so that they can choose the right person for the right job
profile. Interview committee should review all the applicants to select the best candidate for the
job profile. I suggest to increase the review program from 3 weeks to 4 weeks. It is not necessary
to review the recruitment and selection procedure in every 3 week.
I suggest that monitoring part should be added for motivational function where
department can monitor the performance of employees and compare the expected outcome and
actual outcome. This will act as a feedback for the HR Committee while giving rewards or
following motivating function (Dragoni and et.al., 2011.). Organisation should review this
process in every 3 weeks.
It is very essential for Thomson to set training objective, it will help an organisation to
compare the set training objective and current employee skills. This training objective will be
used by HR department to design strategies for employees. And the another important task that
should be introduced is Reviewing the training program on a continuous basis. Feedbacks can be
taken to conduct better training session next time.

4.1 Monitoring the progress against the original proposal
To perform the work of a HR manager efficiently I have gone through all the proposals
which I have suggested earlier. To become a good and effective HR manager, it is essential to
have knowledge of the HR functions. An individual should have skills to perform the functions
of the HRM such as recruitment and selection, training and development and motivational factor.
As I have discussed earlier the management proposals of the organization. After going through
all the proposals I realised that the recruitment programme for the selection process was great. I
have learned how to take interview of the interviewee and select the best for the company. Now I
am well efficient to handle the recruitment and screening of the individuals (Goldman, 2008).
My second priority was motivational techniques used for the development of the organization.
Here, I found that some of the techniques are very easy to understand but some of those are very
hard to understand. For this factor, more training sessions are required to learn it. Now, coming
on the training programme organised by the company was very effective. I have learned so many
new techniques from this training session. The techniques and methods used by the trainer under
the training session were very different and innovative (Gruenewald and Smith, 2014.). My
knowledge and skills are boosted through this. After the training programme I am able to work
with full efficiency. I have learned so many techniques and methods of training and now, I can
train an employee on the basis of this techniques. As I want to become HR manager in Thomson
holidays company , I learned all the functions and activities performed by a HR manager under
HRM.
4.2 The quality of own performance to meet industry standards and the management and
superiors comments about the performance
As Thomson Holiday is a tourism company the standards of this company are very high
because it provides the best service to the customers and luxury product packages (Jackson,
Schuler, and Werner., 2011.). To meet the company standard the qualities of my own
performances are as follow:
Educational Skills: being HR manager I possess the learning and teaching skills as I
have to learn and teach the employees about the organization's mission, vision, goals and
objectives.
Intelligence: the skills and knowledge which a HR manager should have are skills to
communicate with the employees as well as superiors, command over language, mental ability
and tact in dealing with the people with intelligence. All the above skills and abilities I have
which help in development of an organization in tourism sector.
