2RISK MANAGEMENT REPORT
Introduction
Occupational health and safety of workers is something that all organizations in all
parts of the world are expected to look into, with the country of Australia being no exception
in this respect. Organizations that ensure the good occupational health and safety of their
workers are places that people like to work for and aspire to work for, and it can result in
huge levels of productivity for such organizations (Awponsah-Taiwah et al. 2016). This
report provides an analysis of important occupational health and safety concepts and
compares and contrasts the basic concepts of hazards and risks.
1. Understanding Occupational Health and Safety Concepts
1.1. Provision of Secure and Safe Work Environment and Working
Conditions
What occupational health and safety essential entails is the provision of secure
working conditions for employees by business organizations, especially organizations where
business operations involve engaging in risk taking activities such as construction work or
working with gaseous chemicals that are otherwise not safe for human inhalation. It is the
duty and responsibility of Australian employers to ensure that it is not only workers and their
co worker (Verbeek et al. 2018). But the family members and even customers at a work place
are not exposed to substances and chemicals that could later prove to be injurious for their
health. For this purpose a risk management team must be deployed by a business organization
to determine the possible risks that could arise in the work place and the type of safety
measures that ought to be in place in order to fully ensure that workers in an organization can
perform their activities, duties and responsibilities in a safe and secure manner (Verbeek et al.
2018). A worker should not be allowed to be subjected to dangerous work conditions or

conditions that could compromise with her or his physical and mental wellbeing, and any
organization that facilitates this is likely to be blacklisted in the country of Australia.
1.2. Ensuring Adequate Provision of First Aid
In Australia, rules, regulations and legislations pertaining to the imposition of safe
working conditions are guaranteed and established by Safe Work Australia, a body that has
been set up primarily for this purpose. One of the most important areas of work place security
and safety that a business organization in Australia is expected to look into is the provision of
first aid. There are should be adequate first aid measures in place, in the form of a first aid
box and healing medication that can be applied immediately to cuts, injuries and even first
degree burns should any worker unfortunately hurt themselves when doing their work. There
needs to be a department in every business organization that looks into whether first aid
measures are in place and whether these are being implemented in the manner desired at the
time of a workplace accident or mishap (Battaglia et al. 2015).
1.3. Stress Management
Another important area of occupational health and safety that can be seen to be in
play in the country of Australia is the management of stress. Work duties and responsibilities
in today’s day and age can be highly challenging, and workers often find themselves being
subjected to high levels of stress in order to meet their deadlines and professional goals. At
times, stress can turn out to be quite a killer resulting in employees falling severely ill or even
committing suicide in the most helpless situations, making stress one of the biggest concerns
of occupational health and safety professionals in Australia. It is advocated by Safe Work
Australia, that counseling professionals, at least one or two in number ought to be deployed
by business organizations in Australia who can counsel employees who are feeling stressed
