Self-Healing Concrete
Purba Choudhury and Sarah Guthrie
Concrete is considered as the best material for the construction process of the building and
large civil construction.
However, due to environment, natural condition and constituents, cracks can develop which
can create impact on the concrete structure.
In order to prevent the Concrete self-healing structure is developed so that it can repair itself
and develop strength as well as longevity in the structure.
Here, description of the self healing concrete is mentioned and its importance, application
areas are highlighted.
Such concept are beneficial for the UK and US civil construction where reconstruction is
preferred which causes increase in CO2 and resources utilization. Moreover, they spend
around £40 Billion for the construction process (Abbas, Mehdi and Saleem, 2016).
Background
To study the importance of self healing concrete.
To understand the mechanism of self-healing concrete.
To analyse the applications of self healing concrete in future of civil
engineering.
To recommend ways by which these methods can become cost-effective and
sustainable in future
Objectives
Data collection methods: Secondary source
Research Approach: Inductive type where finding from the general to the specific topic.
Research Designing: Descriptive research design is used where main focus is given on
the self-healing concrete, its effectiveness, application and sustainability development
through it.
Research Analysis: Qualitative exploratory
It is the best and cost effective methods were only initial investment is required.
There are various advantages of using the self healing concrete in the civil engineering and
other areas.
Countries like UK and USA must use it so that they can prevent their losses and wrong
investment.
