This essay is based on my understanding of corporate communications in the light of
different concepts covered in the different modules during the entire course and a study on
Tesco. Some of the essential concepts covered during the course include such as the internal &
external communications of corporate companies. Moreover, I get to know the some certain
skills, which will be extremely helpful to me for my professional career ahead.
The module has educated me on internal communication, which is done within the firm
through various options like e-mail, notice boards, physical meeting and others (Mishra Boynton
and Mishra 2014). I get to know about how to facilitate an internal communication. This means I
need to be well versed with the different kinds of internal communication. Internet literacy in this
respect will be very important (Mishra Boynton and Mishra 2014).
The module has further educated on external communication. I need a very good
knowledge on internet. Moreover, I also need to know the ways such as the ethical use of
Facebook, Twitter and YouTube which are used to interact with customers. We have decided to
prepare a presentation on Tesco. The study on Tesco has further my knowledge on internal and
external communication as they adapt various modes like notice boards, internet, intranet,
HOST, SharePoint, text messages and the different social sites like Facebook, Twitter and
YouTube (Our Tesco 2018).
The course module and the study of Tesco have both encouraged me to improve my
communication skills. The education that I have will help me to develop myself accordingly. I
had a very little knowledge on the importance of corporate communication. I could have landed
in trouble if I had not attended the course module and had not conducted a study on Tesco. Now,
I will take some time and will prepare accordingly to add values to my qualification. Moreover, a

professional graduate with good communication skill will have much success in drawing the
attention of interviewers.
My personal SWOT analysis has helped me to identify the professional challenges and
the possible opportunities for me in the future ahead. I have identified that I am strong in
communications through social sites. However, I am not equally good at verbal communication.
Additionally, I am weak in several skills like leadership, teamwork and problem solver. I have
opportunities if I work with different organizations. This will help me to observe the leadership
skills, problem solving ability and the teamwork capabilities by being quite close to such leaders.
Some threats might hamper my development as a professional graduate. I might not be able to
learn by being in different organizations as I am poor in implementing the changes. Such thing
might influence my progress as a learner.
In addition to communication, I also need to develop few other skills like leadership,
teamwork, oral communication and problem solver. For leadership skills, I need to give myself
sometime to study the leadership practice in reputed organizations like Tesco and other global
companies (Klibi and Oussii 2013). Such studies will help me to understand the strategic
planning that leaders in reputed organizations take against the different challenging situation.
Additionally, I also need to work with different firms for shorter span of time. This will enable
me to observe the leadership qualities in such firms. Moreover, I will be able to know the action
that different leaders take for different tasks.
I need to develop the teamwork spirit in me. I have found me weak in collaborating with
others. Moreover, by working with different organization I will get ample opportunity and will
also get to learn the way to manage a teamwork spirit. To improve my oral communication, I

will need to interact with the other colleagues. Moreover, I should also try interacting with the
managers. Speaking to managers will reduce my hesitancy level and will enrich a fairer
communication skill in me. To become an efficient problem solver, I need to take part in
numerous projects. This will get me closer to different issues and the relevant counter backs from
the respective leaders. Moreover, I will get to know the problem solving skills as well as the
leadership skills. I will be able to understand the ways to develop the leadership skills by closely
following the respective leaders in different firms.
To conclude, the modules covered during the course and the study of internal & external
communication in Tesco have helped me to identify the skills that I have and also those that are
needed to develop to attain a successful professional career in event management. The essentials
of professional development plan will be to learn from the leaders in different companies and
implement the skills to make it happen practically.
