2SELF REFLECTION PRACTICE IN NURSING STANDARDS
Introduction:
The development of the therapeutic relationship in health and social care is essential in order
to maintain a professional relationship between staff and service user. It also helps me to
follow the code of conduct proposed by NMBA as a Registered Nurse (Fakude, 2013). In this
paper, the self-reflection has been projected in the light of Gibbs Reflection Cycle concerning
the case study of regular TPR checking. With the help of Gibbs reflection Cycle, I can
analyse my future scope and possibility to implement the therapeutic and professional
relationship by resolving the operational barriers to the nursing practices. Apart from that, the
objectives of the NMBA code of conducts have been described with operational boundaries.

Description:
In the Description stage, the internal and external environment of the given situation has to be
identified. In the given case study (video) the patient came for a regular check-up where the
clinical expert followed the TPR testing or Temperature, Pulse and Respiratory diagnosis.
The result was showing a normal and healthy physiological condition of the patient. The
healthcare assessor introduced him to the patient and told him that he is going to test his
Temperature, Pulse and respiratory functionality. The assessor has engaged in a casual
conversation with the patient very polity with showing the respect that helped to build-up the
trust and closeness between patient-nurse relationships (White, Dudley-Brown & Terhaar,
2016). Another noticeable factor is that the health assessor was also answering each query of
the patient during the diagnosis process.
Feelings:
In the Feeling section, the situational feeling has to be identified and examined. As a nursing
student maintaining the NMBA policies and regulations should be my chief concern
throughout my academic as well as the nursing carrier. The Registered Nurse Standards and
Code of Practices allow me to follow the accurate nursing practices. However, in my
academic and professional career, I have felt many operational hindrances that occur within
the regular nursing practice. Most of this time this operational dilemma caused by lack of
mutual understanding of cultural differences, communicational barrier, social and conceptual
verity (Howatson-Jones, 2016). In this given case study there was no prominent obstacle has
been experienced by either the patient or the healthcare assessor. After observing the case I
have felt that the patient was highly curious about his health condition. At the same time, the

caregiving person always showed patience and answered his every question politely and
engaged him in other conversation. This approach is the most ideal approach to the registered
nursing practice as per the NMBA regulation and the nursing standard.
Evaluation:
Despite the fact, that in the given case the assessor was highly cooperative and polite with the
patient, many noticeable factors can educate me a nursing student. In my nursing practice
sometimes I get nervous while handling emergency cases. Apart from that, I also show
agitation and anger while I am in a stressful condition. As per the NMBA guidelines of
accurate nursing practice and approach standard all of these factors are hindering the nursing
practices of me and my peers as well (Beam et al., 2010). Controlling the personal emotions
is the major key to improve the therapeutic relationship with the patient and professional
relationship with my peers.
Analysis:
Each of the nursing standard and practice reflects the ideal approach of an RN. As per the
regulations of the NMBA slandered, an RN should have all the necessary qualities maintain
and promote all the nursing code of conduct including the therapeutic and professional
relationship (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, 2014). Showing any negative
emotion can have an unexpected influence on patient's psychology. Showing respect for the
patient culture and values help to implement the therapeutic and professional relationship in
nursing practices (Ingham-Broomfield, 2015). Developing the personal skills and
professional efficiency is one of the major tasks that should be performed by every healthcare
practitioner. In healthcare operation, psychological support can be the primary field to
implement the therapeutic and professional relationship. From NCAS documents the practical
caregiving person always showed patience and answered his every question politely and
engaged him in other conversation. This approach is the most ideal approach to the registered
nursing practice as per the NMBA regulation and the nursing standard.

dilemmas within existing nursing practices along with the most appropriate way to solve
these operational anomalies can be identified. Effective communication is one of the key
concerns of this nursing approach where the cultural and the social value of the patient will
be conserved. Showing respect for the patient as well as to the colleagues is another
important factor that I have to maintain throughout my nursing career. For health-related
decision making supporting the involvement of the patients and his or family should be
equally prioritised as other health professionals.
Conclusion:
In order to engage my nursing practice in the NMBA provided regulation concerning the
therapeutic and professional relationship I should incorporate the essential code of conducts
as per the NCAS document in my caregiving processes. I have to show respect to my
patients and their socio-cultural perspective as well. Using delegation, supervision,
coordination and consultant in the professional relationship can improve my quality of
caregiving. To perform as a Registered Nurse, I have to engage all the participants with an
equal and unbiased formation that can lead to collaborative nursing approach. At the same
time, I have to always closely monitor my nursing environment to identify the operational
discrepancies and misconducts involving patient caregiver relationship or the internal
relationship of health workers. I have to always keep in mind that each individual is the
experts of his or her life. Considering this practical fact allows me to respect the person and
the opinion while making any health care or treatment-related decision.
Action plan:
The strategic action plan can help me to overcome my weakness in my regular
nursing practices that come from both professional and personal background. One of the
dilemmas within existing nursing practices along with the most appropriate way to solve

Action plan:
The strategic action plan can help me to overcome my weakness in my regular

major action that I have to Take against my nervousness in an emergency condition is that, I
have to face several types of the emergency situation more frequently that can help me to
control my emotional outburst and keep me calm and relaxed (Taylor, 2017). I need to focus
on my regular actives while monitoring my ability to prioritise the opinion of others. I have to
also ensure that all the required medical equipment are organised in a specific space where I
do not have to search when it will be needed. Apart from that, I can engage myself in various
social and communicational activities to improve my communication skill and socio-
psychological perception.
Conclusion:
From the above discussion, it can be said that the therapeutic and personal relationship in
health and social care helps me to follow the code of conduct proposed by NMBA as a
Registered Nurse. In the given case study, the patient came for the regular check-up where
the clinical expert followed the TPR testing or Temperature, Pulse and Respiratory diagnosis.
From the above analysis, it can be said that the Registered Nurse Standards and Code of
Practices allow me to follow the accurate nursing practices. As per the NMBA guidelines of
accurate nursing practice and approach standard, all of these disputed practices are hindering
the nursing practices of my peers and me as well. At the same time, the strategic action plan
can help me to overcome my weakness in my regular nursing practices that come from both
