SERVER MANAGEMENT
Scenario 4.1 – Creating a Large Volume
For resolving the problem the three smaller 500 Gb drives can be merged to form a
large volume and allow the user to copy the file. The partitions can be merged using the disk
management application (Warren, 2016). In windows server 2016 the Disk management tool
have the merge volume feature that can be used for extending the volume indirectly by
combining the two partitions.
The disk management can be opened by pressing the windows + x keys on the
keyboard and a volume needs to be deleted for converting its space into allocated and the
next drive is selected for extending the volume with the available unallocated space.
Scenario 4.2 – using iSCSI Devices
For the configuration of the servers such that the other two servers running the
Windows Server 2016 can use the disk space are given in the following steps:
iSCSI target server role should be loaded in the primary server and it should be
configured using the server manager.
During the configuration of the server multiple virtual disk should be created and it
should be defined that which server can access the virtual disk (SHRIMALI & PATEL,
2016).
The iSCSI initiators should be configured such that it can be used for connecting with
the different volumes.
In the last step the volume should be connected with teach of the servers and the
computer management should be used for preparing the disks.

Scenario 6.1. – Determining the images to use
For the management of the WDS environment we would need 5 File based images
that are running Windows 10, 32 and 64 bits respectively. The file based image is used
because it one image can be used for different computers and it takes less space (Zahurul et
al., 2016). The device drivers can be included in the image for using it after the deployment
of the image.
For the non PXE supported machine the discover image option should be selected and
static discovery option should be used for connecting with the specific deployment server.
Scenario 6.2 – Creating Images
For the creation of the image the following steps should be followed:
Step#1: Creation of the parent Disk
Before the creation of the differencing disk a parent disk should be created and thus a
new virtual machine is created in the Hyper V and it should be setup according to the
minimum hardware recommendation. After the creation of the VM the Windows OS should
be installed. The sysprep should be started for the removal of the specific system data from
the windows and imaging it (Gorski, Zawadzki & Hamrol, 2016). After the completion the
VM should be turned off for using the VHD created using the parent disk.
Scenario 7.1 – Isolating Server Applications
For using two network accounting applications and keeping them isolated from each
other and all other applications the application should be installed in two separate virtual
servers. The virtual machines should be created on the physical server such that the
applications are able to access the centralized database. The hyper v feature should be
installed in the windows server 2016 for the management of the virtualization component.

Since the applications are installed in separate virtual machines they are kept isolated from
each other.
Scenario 7.2 – Training with Hyper-V
Different tools can be used for providing training to the junior administrator on
Windows Server 2016 Hyper V. A hyper V should be configured such that the non-
administrative user can create or control the virtual machines. The authorization management
framework should be used and the hyper v should be configured such that the authorization
configuration can be stored in the active directory (Savill, 2016). A local xml file can be
created and edited for the management of the authorization of the users. The Run dialog
should be opened and mmc.exe should be started. The file menu should be used and
Add/Remove Snap in option should be selected, In the next step from the snap in list the
authorization manager should be selected and Add option should be clicked. The action menu
should be opened and from there the Open Authorization store should be selected. The XML
file should be chosen for the selected authorization store type. The initialstore.xml should be
expanded and Microsoft Hyper v services should also be expanded and then the role
assignment for selecting administrator. Th action menu should be opened and assign group
and users should be selected and the name of the user should be inputted that are given
permission to control the Hyper V.
Scenario 9.1 – Creating Differencing Disks
The following steps are used for employing differencing disk for the creation of virtual
machine:
Step#1: Creating Differencing Disks
In the Hyper V “New Virtual Hard Disk Wizard” should be selected with the following
options such as:

Choose Disk Format - VHDX
Choose Disk Type - Differencing
Specify Name and Location - Naming it VM1 storing it in a directory for using it to
boot a virtual machine (Thomas, 2017).
Configure Disk – Entering the directory to locate the parent disk
Step#2: Creation of VM with differencing disk
New Virtual Machine Wizard present in Hyper V should be used for creating the new
VM. The same option can also be used for creating a parent disk and after the creation of the
parent disk the Use an existing virtual hard disk should be selected for deploying multiple
VMs.

Scenario 9.2 – Modifying Virtual Disks
The Hyper V manager can be used for resizing the virtual hard disk and the following
step are given for the expansion of the VHD file.
If the VHD is connected with the VM’s IDE controller then the virtual machine is
needed to be turned off and the setting dialog of the virtual machine should be opened.
In the left pane the VHD should be selected for resizing and in the right pane edit
button should be selected
The wizard continuous the process and displays the location of the hard disk and the
next option should be selected (Warren, 2016)
The expand option should be selected and it shows the current size of the volume and
the new size should be inputted for increasing the size.
