SERVER MONITORING TOOL1
Introduction:
Server generally is known as system, which provides of various kind of resources along
with services and data from the network channel for the system of the clients .After receiving the
request from the client, the main purpose of the server would be responding to the request which
has been created along with the necessary information [2]. The role of the server is linked with
including the identification and verification of the requested client along with the authenticating
the related thing to access the data resources as well as the different responses formatting. The
servers are observed by making use of tools which are essentially needed for the purpose of
administrating the entire work of the systems. The reports which are presented from this tools is
associated with aiding in the comprehension of the server health capacity along with the
performance within the existing surrounding. Besides all this the an automatic checking process
is also accompanied with supporting in the creation of checks in a synchronized way along with
giving the pre-emptive warnings connected to servers in the environment where it works [1].
many layers of the monitoring software is related with the above mentioned protocols along with
getting correlated with the various applications which are checked and where its operation are
dependent upon the surrounding environment. Individual software have specific process or well
defined protocols towards the approach of this particular problems which server system generally
faces. The software monitoring done on any of the default in the service is related to scrutinizing
the performance of the delivery of service along with upgrading the troubleshooting as the
performance of the entire system rely on.

IT Infrastructure monitoring tools:
There are different types of IT server monitoring tools and this is related with including
the following:
1. Nagios Core:
This is type of the customizable and cost-effective open sources server monitoring
mechanism and this tools offers some matrices which are connected with supporting in
the checking the performance of the servers as well as in responding and rectify services
[3]. Although the features which this tool provides is seems to be limited in nature.
2. Ganglia:
Ganglia are an open server monitoring tool which are specially created for the computer
systems like grids or clusters which have a higher performance index. The structure is
distributive in nature and can be scalable and is dependent upon the ranking design which
is connected with aiming the clusture federations. The XML and the XDR is usually used
for representing the data and for the data which is being transported respectively. This
tool helps in gripping the above-mentioned two functions. The software engineer’s
algorithm, which is associated with structures of the data, is to help in the increase the
efficiency to maximum limit, which results in the overheads for every single nodes. The
monitoring mechanism is associated with helping many processors as well as helping the
operating systems.
3. Zabbix: This is a type of software monitoring tool which is also known to be an
enterprise solution and is decked with various features which are solely responsible for
the offering commercial support [3]. This above mentioned server monitoring tool is

related to monitoring the response time of the various services like that of HTTP.
Another important purpose of this tool is to monitor the uptime for the different services
of responses.
4. Cacti: Cacti are a front end tool linked with checking of the servers and the graphic
instruments for the system of data along with the capacity of managing different data
collection. Collecting of the data is generally seen to be happening in the corn job for
utilization of the feeding of the metrics by the external scripts. The software is seems to
be related to the production of the graphs for any of the datasets. It is very easy to make
the graphs from the root elements which also fulfill the purpose of including the servers
and the load balancers.
5. CollectD: This is an open source instrument, which is related to the collection of the
performance statistics with data storage facilities. CollectD collect different formats like
that of RRD files. This software can be used in various operating systems and the main
work of this software is to search and identify the root blockages in the performance and
helps in predicting the overtime of load in the system and is solely responsible of the
warning creation. This software has adapted an integrated approach with the different
graphing tools.
6. Spiceworks:
Spiceworks is type sever monitoring tool where insights are provided about the servers
along with focusing on the internal details of the various SNMP devices, the services and
the switches also [4]. Ruby is mode in which the software is written on Rails and the

mechanism is liable to find out the IP addressing machines and is also responsible for
providing the knowledge ground as well as functionary of the supporting desk.
7. Icinga: This server monitoring tool is called to be an extended version of the software
Nagios and the software is correlated with the giving of the REST API as well as data
linker. This new elements of the API is linked with giving permission of an easy
integration of the various kind of extensions which is generally do not require any of the
changes of the core in a straight way.
8. OpenNMS: OpenNMS is a server monitoring tool which provides a frame up monitoring
choice and there are also unpaid version of the OpenNMS which can have maximum ten
numbers of devices accompanied with a single user access login and is only related with
giving support to the basic checking parameters which a server possess [5]. This tool can
be related to living up to its billing as an enterprise-class solution which is having the
capability of monitoring a wide range of hardware as well operating systems and the
virtualized platforms. This software has an ability to monitor the applications and the
services in a remote manner. The base structure of this tool is driven by events and has
the ability of handling thousands of events.
9. WhatsUp Gold: This is the tool which behaves as the first raid for the IT professionals in
world of monitoring. By using this software many of the IT professionals have been
corroborated with search operation that they have outran the different competence of this
tool immediately after the tool is installed in the system and this is still a better option for
the convenience of the system. Due to the ability of discovering as well as a distinct
interface which deals with displaying and mapping of the information. The most of the
devices, which are generally for small sized and medium-sized businesses purposes,

supported with some of the additional good capabilities. Some of them are like the
backups of configuration of the network devices along with WMI usage upon the top of
the general SNMP and the knock for the collection of data and this is related with
behaving as a reliable option for the departments as well as the teams which are not very
sure where else to move [6]. This is not only connected with the network scanning but
also is liable to comprehends the architecture of the network by usage of the routing
protocols as well as tables. In order to use the licenses in an efficient way removal of the
duplicate devices have to be done.
