Personal Development: Setting Targets and Reflective Practice Question Collect 3 examplesof evidence of advice/feedback from yourtutors, student services, career advisers, or any other sources of support at college, and include them in the spaces below. For each example, summarise the outcome of the advice and include examples of the targets that you set as a consequence. EXAMPLE 1 This example of mine is regarding one significant advice that I received in the classroom while my teacher taught us about benefits of SMART goals and PDP plans. In future, I aspire to work with bigger companies and hence this advice proves most significant for me. Since my University gave me an opportunity to reflect upon my personal PDP plans and future goals, while writing it personally I have understood its affects as now I can assess my personal abilities and skills that needs to be developed to set my future goals along with giving it specific timeline(Jackson, n.d.).It is crucial to understand that plan with specific objectives helps in creating self-awareness within us that assists in setting career planning and SMART goals. The advice given by my teacher have given foundation to my career goals otherwise which I would have been focussing only upon my present studies and achievements. I will gain skills and required experience to become a departmental head in my organisation so that I can lead my team successfully. EXAMPLE 2 One of my career advisors include my best friend whom I trust upon strongly and am motivated by his opinions effectively. Since, I have time management issues that created problems between us many times, my friend advised me once about how to manage time so that my measurable goals are fulfilled within targeted timescale. He also stated that assessing progress timely can help me in staying focussed to meet deadlines and consequently make me feel excited for getting closer to goal achievements. Goal setting is an important criterion in businesses and life that provides us with sense of direction, focus and motivation(Sicinski, 2018).Now, I am aware that SMART goals need to be time-bound which indicates when we start or desire to finish our targeted objectives. If the goals are not time-constrained, our plans will lack motivation and sense of urgency. I will undertake a self-proposed project and set milestones that can keep me motivated to complete the project within targeted time. EXAMPLE 3 While I was going through the web, I came across a very interesting article written about application of SMART goals by students to achieve success.
Personal Development: Setting Targets and Reflective Practice The paper discusses about SMART goal and how it can be utilised within classroom along with advising upon ways spreadsheets can be prepared to enhance students’ learnings. This article has illuminated my personal learning by improving my ability to plan, execute them and improve communication with my fellow members and tutors. As we are given teamwork many times in universities as well as in workplaces, it is important to set SMART goals by measuring specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely factors that can push us further in the direction alongside helping in organising and reaching targeted goals (Lawlor & Hornyak, 2012). In addition to setting personal gaols, this article also taught me how to list goals and significance behind it while working in teams. The spreadsheet created for team goals includes anadditional spot where every member can identify their personal obstacles and discuss solution for eliminating them. I will create a spreadsheet that will contain my targeted goals related to my higher studies and use it for organising and reaching my goal in timely manner.
