Introduction
An environment which is free from accidents
and the injuries are more attractive for the
employees or workers. In such environment,
the employees are more satisfied and give
best of their performances. The safe
environment at workplace is the most
important and basic need for both the
employees and the employer.

About Myer
Myer which is an Australian
departmental store chain dealing
in retail and includes products
like: clothing, footwear, furniture,
travel goods, etc.

WHS System
The workplace heath and safety management
system i.e. WHS system is considered as the set
of several policies, plans and also the procedure
that are helpful in the systematic management of
the safety and heath of the employees or others
at work and which further minimises the risk
that pertains to the injury and illness from the
operations and activities of the workplace.

Purpose of WHS system
The main purpose for which the WHS system was developed in
Myer was that it will protect the employees, safeguard them
and also it is for the welfare of all the people connected to
the organisation either directly or indirectly (Chapman,
Trigg and Naweed, 2018). There are many laws that are
stated in the Work and health safety act, 2011which is to be
complied by all the organisation so that there is no threat to
any risk, injury or accident.

Work and health safety act, 2011
• It helps in protecting workers at the workplace from any kind of
harm by requiring the organisations to eliminate or minimise the
risks.
• To provide for a framework for the continuous improvement at
workplace.
• To promote the provisions which is related to the information,
advice, training and education related to the WHS (Lamont and
Brunero, 2018).

Non compliance of the WHS laws and
Codes of practice
• Industrial manslaughter: Where a person negligently causes death of
worker.
• Punishment: maximum imprisonment of 20 years and fine upto $10 million.
• Category 1: where the duty holder is reckless and endangers person to serious
injury or risk of death (Dodshon and Hassall, 2017).
• Punishment: Maximum imprisonment of 5 years and fine upto $3 Million.
• Category 2: Where a person is exposed with a risk of serious injury, illness or
death.
• Punishment: Fine upto $1.5 Million

Responsibilities of Staff in WHS
procedure
• Take proper care of themselves, their health and safety.
• Taking proper care of the people who might get affected by their
own actions while working.
• Be cooperative if the organisation is demanding workers to do
something in compliance of the laws related to WHS.

Risk assessment procedure
• Step1: Identify the risk- In this Myer will find out the risk that
could be harmful for the others.
• Step2: Assess Risk- In this Myer will understand the nature
and the cause of that risk. It will also be analysed that how serious
is the harm and what could happen form taking that risk.
• Step3: Control Risk- In this, Myer will take all the necessary
measures that can be taken to control the risk that could harm
others.

Conclusion
The WHS act is very important as it helps in providing with the laws
that further help organisations with the implementation of laws
that relates to the heath, safety and welfare of the workers. Due to
this act the government has made it compulsory for all the business
to include laws relating to heath and safety of the workers and
employees.
