CE 1.2 Project Background
CE 1.2.1 Characteristics of the project
I identified that the automation has become the most trending factor for the present time
where every sector is trying to eliminate the user interface gap and make the processes faster. I
considered this situation as an opportunity for developing a product that can be an innovation in
the field of the electronics. I proposed the concept of the Full Home Control for the project and
investigated on the future aspects of the Home Automation Systems in future. I analysed the
implementation of the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) modem for the
automation in the home appliances including the control over security system, lights, conditional
system and many more via sending short messages using the phone. The project will be delivered
through focusing on the GSM protocol functioning that allows the user to control the home
appliances using the GSM frequency bandwidths. I used the AT-commands and serial
communication concepts for the successful development and deployment of this home
automation control system. I have used PIC16F887 microcontroller after integrating with GSM

for providing the respective home automation system with my expected baud rate of 9600 bps. I
ensured that the project is completed within deadline and with utmost efficiency.
CE 1.2.2 Objectives developed for the project
I had the responsibility to manage the team as I was appointed as the team leader and so I
had to assure that the team is concentric and focused towards the objectives. I developed the
following set of objectives for the entire group:
To successfully develop the home automation system that can be controlled using the
GSM protocol and the users could control the home appliances through sending SMS.
To investigate and implement the concept of AT-commands and serial communication
for the development of full home automation control using GSM protocol.
To stream real time video from IP cameras and receive quality videos.
To use secured protocols over internet connection so that any other devices do not have
scope for controlling or managing the home appliances.
To manage the accuracy and efficiency of the project more than 98%.
To accomplish the project delivery within the time.
To manage the project constraints such as budget, timeline, and quality of high standard.
To keep the uncertainties away from the project and deliver the project goals.
CE 1.2.3 My area of work
I was appointed as the leader and hence, my primary job was to develop the planning for
the project development and inform the team members about the project and the planning of the

project. I developed the system realization for the project that will allow the home owners to
receive feedback status related to the home appliances and control their switching remotely
through sending the SMS. I used PIC16F887 microcontroller in addition to the integration of
GSM that is helpful in providing the smart automation control over the house system with the
desired baud rate of 9600 bps. I developed the prototype of GSM based home automation system
that can be operated as per the mentioned requirement and testing were done on the prototype.
The tests result in the more than 98% accuracy for four loads.
