Identity theft and university students: do they know, do they care?
In this era where distance education is highly common amongst students, identity theft is
one of the major issues that demand the attention. In the research paper, “Identity theft and
university students: do they know, do they care?” the author Ludek Seda has investigated the
knowledge and risk of identity theft of the university students (Seda, 2014). The chief purpose
of the study is to explain that factors that possess the potential to influence the relationship
between the knowledge associated with the risk of identity theft of the student as well as the
preventive measures that has been taken by them.
Analyses of the research design
The research question of the mentioned article includes “To what extent does knowledge
of the risk about identity theft influence the use of preventive measures taken by university
students?” Thus it can be clearly understood that the research question is a logical explanation of
the aim of the study as well as reflects the question to address the problem.
The research design used for conducting this research is qualitative research is Case
Study research design. The purpose of the mentioned research design is to access the research
issue in a specific location over a period of time (Brannen, 2017). This research design is the is
opted by the researchers when the research question tends to explore and observe different
relationships amongst the variables of the research paper (Lampard & Pole,2015). Hence it can
be understood that the case study research model has been appropriately used for the mentioned
research.

Analysis of data collection method
Both primary as well as secondary method of data collection has been used for this
research. Review of literatures that are relevant to the research topic has been reviewed. Along
with this, interview of students from business (BBus), finance (BCom (Fin)) and accounting
(BCom (Acc)) Flinders Business School who are at least 18 years old were performed. A series
of semi structure interview was conducted for collection of primary data. The sample for the
mentioned study is comprised of 12 undergraduate students of which six candidates are males
and six are female. All of them were from the Flinders Business School. The interviews were
designed as face-to-face interviews. The literates selected were well aligned with the research
questions. However, when it comes to interview, it has been found that the interview was chiefly
focused on the dependent variable of the research question that is the preventive measured used
by the students for protecting their self identity. Thus, the interview should have been designed
keeping in mind both the independent as well as dependent variable of the research question
Analysis of the data analysis method
When it comes to the analysis of the data collected, it has been found that the researcher
have used Qualitative Data Analysis method. According to the researcher, this analysis method is
commonly used in case of social science research. According to researchers, the QDA data
analysis method is appropriate for correlational studies. Thus no major error has been noticed in
the data analysis process.
