Introduction
Energy is an important aspect in everyday human activities. Thus without energy human
beings can do very little (Diouf 2016). The main source of energy in earth is Sun however in the
nighttime the energy of Sun cannot be used. An example of such energy is electricity that was
invented in order to use during daytime as well as during night an example of electricity (Diouf
2016). Electricity is produced from water by the hydroelectric power companies. However
challenges are there due to shortage of water during summer seasons. This is to suggest that
other means of energy should be encouraged and invented to either back up electrical power or
replace it. However it must be mentioned that people belonging from rural areas still cannot
afford use of electricity since the installation of this source of energy is expensive (Faisal 2016).
Sources of energy are divided into two categories namely; renewable and non renewable.
Renewable sources have a continuous source of supply while nonrenewable sources have no
continuous source of supply. Examples of nonrenewable sources include candles, generators and
lanterns. On the other hand examples renewable source of energy include solar panels and home
batteries, wind, hydropower, biomass and tidal energy. Due to the rise in the cost of electricity
across the world, people have been forced to find alternative sources. Among the three sources of
renewable energy, solar energy is the most effective since people can easily learn the installation
of the power and other related aspects as well as its use in the household works like cooking,
lighting, heating and other chores.
Solar energy is produced from the sunlight and therefore it is converted into electricity
using the solar panels, stored in batteries and used later. This helps in avoiding the expensive
cost and danger associated with electric power lines. Solar energy does not only benefit

individual but also the environment as it does not emits harmful greenhouse gasses as compared
to coals. It is therefore eco friendly. This gives it a major reason for why households should use
it.
Literature review and framework
During the past years, the most common sources of energy were the use of pressure
lamps, lanterns, candles and fire while electric power, solar panels and home batteries are the
most common and recent (Korolchenko et al. 2010). Among them, electric power is very
expensive to install as well as to use. There is a high risk of explode of the high voltage wires
which makes electricity unsafe for household usages. Generators on the other hand are also very
expensive since its energy is nonrenewable and it uses fuel that requires transportation and
storage (Nugraha, Ridhana and Listuayu 2018).
Objective
The main objective of this report is to convince people to use solar panels and home
batteries rather than using electricity (Puri 2012). The use of solar panels and home batteries has
been found to be ideal since it is produced from the sunlight during the daytime and the energy is
stored in a battery which makes it cheaper. To use solar energy the only thing that is required is a
solar panel which involves low maintenance as well as low cost (engagement strategies in B2B
n2018). Thus the main reason behind the usage of solar energy is its cost effective nature as
compared to other sources of energies like electricity, wind and biomass. Along with the
installation, the maintenance of other source of the energy is also expensive. The usage of
electricity demands monthly bill payments and the use of generators demands a lot of petrol
every day (Uddin et al. 2017).

In other ways, the use of solar energy can enhance the value of a property as well. For
example, if one want to sell his or her house that is equipped with solar panel, the value of the
property will automatically increase since solar energy is eco-friendly. This means that
environmental degradation that may occur due to release of harmful gasses like carbon dioxide,
nitrogen oxide or sulfur dioxide will be reduced.
Environment
Meanwhile use of biomass is insufficient due to its dependence on cow dung. It is also
not eco friendly because it produces green house gasses during its usage (Nugraha, Ridhana and
Listuayu 2018). Hydropower on the other hand is limiting since the initial cost of installing is
higher than the installation of the other source of energy. The payment of the bill depends on the
use of electricity on a monthly basis. Along with that, another issue regarding electricity is
power-cut when major cases of faults occur like tran sformer breakdown or water shortage
during dry seasons. However it is considered to be one of the most powerful source of energy
but most people of developing countries cannot afford it (Korolchenko et al 2010)
This makes the solar panel and home batteries ideal and effective source of energy since
most people can afford to buy it, maintain and use (Rosa-Clot, Rosa-Clot and Tina 2011). It
provides power energy across a wide geographical place and it is easy to use at the same time not
risky compared to electrical power. The use of solar panels and home batteries in place of other
energy sources like electricity saves water for arid areas. It is environment friendly since no fuel
is used. The water that is used to harness electric power instead can be used for irrigation and
other domestic use where rains are rare (N.A. 2018). Coals that are imported from other

countries are used in companies to produce electricity. It makes electricity expensive. Different
source of energy, their advantages and disadvantage and their effectivity plays a crucial role
while choosing the appropriate one for domestic use. Less expensiveness is the fact that solar
panels and home batteries stand out to be the most effective power energy. Another reason is that
it is easy to use thus can be considered as the top priority. This is described in the table below
(Puri 2012)
Source of energy Advantages
Solar panel and
home batteries
Relatively cheap since the energy is acquired from the
sun.
Renewable hence it is very reliable
Easy to install
Can be used in remote areas
Environment friendly
Theory/framework/concept
The theory of competitive advantage can be applied in this case since there are many
sources of energy that people can use (Dale, 2003). Therefore, it is necessary to convince them to

choose the most appropriate one and in this case, solar panel and home batteries is our main
focus. The theory of competitive advantage is applied where there is more than one aspect to
consider yet the most outstanding one should be chosen at the end of the day therefore I will use
it to justify the proposal (Hult 2010)
Marketing strategies
In order to reach a large number of people, a good market strategy should be adopted in
order to attract more consumers to convince them to use of solar panels and home batteries (N.A.
2018) as well as guide them regarding the proper usage of it. Therefore the first and most
effective marketing strategy will be bsed on social media sites. Based on the popularity of social
media sites among the young generation, social media based marketing strategy will be effective
as a great percentage of users visit the sites on a daily basis. Posting useful and relevant thoughts
on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat will help people learn
about the product and how to acquire it (Puri 2012).
Apart from that, sending direct messages can also be effective in order to know the
customer about the products with detailed description. However, during initial stage, response
might not be as per expectation but over time massive response from the users can be achieved.
(Faisal 2016). A lot of businesses use social media in order to promote the products and reach
out to maximum number of customers within a short time span. Using social media based
marketing strategy for the promotion of solar panel and home batteries will be extremely ideal
since social media platforms connect people across the world (Social media, content marketing
and engagement strategies in B2B 2018).

Creating video tutorials will be beneficial in order to demonstrate how solar panels and
home batteries are used while attracting the customers at the same time. In this regard, Youtube
can be used as a medium, where videos can be posted demonstrating the products. Many
businesses thrive on the use of Youtube video tutorials. This will make the users learn the
usefulness of using solar panels and home batteries in place of electricity and other sources of
energy (Diaz Riuz 2012). Many people can be reached out via Youtube as it is the second largest
communication platform after Google plus. It might be felt that the registering there is expensive
however, using it wisely can brin immense positive results for the business development.
Creating a blog where one can explain well about the solar panel and home batteries.
Give their advantage and disadvantage (Faisal 2016). Convince people on its effectiveness and
how one could save money in buying a product that is powered by a very strong natural energy,
the sun. Just like so many businesses have been successful due to an exemplary blogging site,
blogging on theirs site is recommended. Post ideas on other people’s blogging site not just on
your own blog (N.A. 2018) Businesses of different kinds use blogging to make their products
known for example three or four products that serve the same purpose. Aiming at being the best
is the only way to go. Giving people enough and satisfying reasons why they should use a certain
product over another one will work hand in hand. Although blogging is a good marketing
platform it needs keenness. If poorly written, with low quality posts will be inactive and termed
as dead. It takes a lot of time to edit and correcting. Time is scarce resource and if not used
appropriately, one could encounter loses in business instead (Rosa-Clot, Rosa-Clot and Tina
2011)

Recommendation and conclusion
Use of social media to market, advertise, tell more and convince people to use solar
panels and home batteries stands to be the most ideal market strategy, It is not only affordable
but easy to access anywhere and a wide range of people can be found since it is hard to ignore
social media. (content marketing and engagement strategies in (B2B 2018).
In this digitalized world where information can be found online and in the process people
can learn of certain products and its value. It is a very powerful marketing platform where so
many people can be reached at a go. As other business and firms advertise their product, ceasing
the opportunity to try and catch the attention of the world is the best solution (Faisal 2016)In
conclusion, the choice of any source of energy will determine its reliability and this influences
efficiency. Solar panel and home batteries have so many advantages compared to any source of
energy as listed in the table above. Just like the objective of this study is, so is the findings and
taking the power back by influencing households to use solar panels and home batteries is
recommendable.
