Abstract
This topic has been chosen as it is relevant to leadership and change management. Nurses
have various roles including educating patients, providing care and management. Such duties
involve human interaction and thus they usually have a high probability of conflicting with each
other. There are a number of conflicts that can arise in a hospital environment. These include
interpersonal conflicts, intergroup conflicts, and inter-professional conflicts. Such conflicts are
facilitated by various factors including communication problems, organizational structure, roles
disputes, lack of professional commitments, lack of resources and misunderstanding among
nurses. In order to deal with such conflicts, managers usually employ various conflicts resolution
strategies to improve good working conditions. This includes encouraging effective
communication among nurses and with other healthcare workers, acting as mediators,
encouraging workers to always apologies with each other where possible and requesting nurses
to deal with situation other than avoiding them. Solving conflicts among workers have a number
of impacts in nursing such as helping managers and leaders to understand common causes of
conflicts in healthcare, how they can be solves and their impact when solved or not solved. This,
therefore, improves professional practice, enhances the good working environment, and
improves inter-professional relationships and thus improving patient care and outcomes.
