SPEECH OUTLINE 2
D. Thesis Statement: Many people are of the view that childhood obesity has no
health implication. The truth is that childhood obesity increases the chances of
children to contract chronic diseases.
E. Preview Statement: I shall offer you the risk factors that expose children to
obesity, the symptoms, and the diseases it might cause.
Transition: Let me begin by one of the risk factors, unhealthy diet, which exposes children
to obesity as illustrated by Mayo Clinic( 2017).
II. Body
A. Unhealthy diet and lack of exercise are the major causes of childhood obesity.
According to Mayo Hospital superintendent, foods with high calories like baked food,
fast foods increase a child's weight. Moreover, dessert and candy drinks like juices
also cause weight gains in children. Also, children do not engage in exercise enabling
them to burn calories
1. My first priority in mitigating childhood obesity is minimizing or avoiding eating
foods rich in calories and promoting exercise in children.
B. The major symptom of obesity in children is having excess weight as compared to the
size of height.
Transition: Have you ever watched children play and observe them keenly and observe the
variations in their weights? You will determine that overweight children struggle to play
because of difficulty in breathing and lack of energy. As illustrated by Han, Lawlor and
Kimm (2016);
1. Children who suffer from obesity exhibit high weights as compared to their
