INTRODUCTION
Sports tourism in general is the travel of an individual which involves either participating
or observing of a particular sporting event. Sports is a very fast growing sector and it is
increasing as people now a days are more enthusiastic for watching live sports events. The travel
industry is globally growing due to the sports tourism (Zhang, 2019). This report contains a
detailed evaluation of the International Tennis federation (ITF) Junior Tennis Tournament hosted
by SVGTA (St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association) in the country, Saint Vincent
and the Grenadines.
MAIN BODY
Overview of the event
ITF is a junior tennis tournament for players who are aged under 18. This event was
hosted by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association in the year 2019. for this event
many countries took part. More than 100 players participated in the tournament from more than
30 countries, such as: USA, India, Peru, Spain, host country, etc. This event took place from
august 12 to 19 at the National Tennis Centre in St Vincent and grenadines. Many countries from
around the world participated in the event and they came with their friends and relatives who
provided players with the support. The event so help was an international event. This event do
not only was limited to hosting a tournament but this also motivated sports tourism as many
people were travelling along with the player to motivate and cheer them up.
Role of government and non government organisations
The government have many roles to perform when any international sport event is being
hosted by their country (Teymouri and Majdam, 2019). The local government of the St. Vincent
have many roles to play, such as:
 They regulates the preparations of the event by keeping themselves informed of the
information pertaining to event.
 The government is responsible to look after the transportation facilities.
 It is the duty of government to look after the infrastructure.
 The government is responsible for the tourism department as the sport tourism increases
when a sport event is hosted.

 The government is responsible for providing with the security to the international players
and also the security which is needed at the location of the event being hosted.
The non government organisation is one that is hosting event in the country. There are
many roles and responsibility for which the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association
would be responsible for. Few of them are as follows:
 They are responsible to take permission from the government for the said event (Razavi,
2019).
 They have to present a proper plan for the execution of the said event.
 They are responsible for providing comfort and security to the players participating in the
international sport.
 The management related with the sport is managed by this non governmental
organisation.
Partnership between sports and tourism organisation. How is partnership developing the
tourism industry.
The sports are now not only limited to televisions. Now the individuals who enjoy
watching sports wish to watch them live. People travel from one place to other for watching
matches. This has increased the sports tourism. With the increase of it, not only the event hosting
company is earning profit but also it is increasing profits of the sports tourism. Individuals when
go to any country to watch match, do not only restrict themselves to only at the location of
match, but many individuals extend their trips and stay for few more days to travel and explore
the place. This results in the profit of tourism industry. This all leads to the development of
tourism industry which further leads to the economic development of the country. The more
people travel to watch any sport event hosted at different places around the world, the more
individuals will contribute in the development of the tourism industry.
Impact of environment on Surrounding communities and destination
Environment plays a major role as it supplies with all the necessary natural resources to
all the individual. Healthy environment helps in making the long term development of any place
successful (Faming, 2018). The environment is very important to be taken care of by the event
organiser and it must be made sure that the environment is not impacting surrounding and the
people of society at large. The sport have the main positive impact on the surrounding that they
help in achieving sustainability. They are as follows:

 Conservation of natural resources which are helpful in presence of the biodiversity.
 Protect and improve the quality of air and water.
There are also negative impact of this sport event on the environment. They are as
follows:
 They contribute in the generation of waste.
 This results in erosion of soil.
 This also sometimes results in air and water pollution.
Economic and socio cultural impact of sporting event
The sporting event that are organised in the country have major impact on the economical
and social factors of the country (Guolong and Yi, 2017). These factors help hosting country
with many economic, social, environmental, etc. factors.
Economic Impact: Hosting any event invites many players and also their relatives and
friends. This will increase sports tourism which further leads to increase in the economy of the
country. Hosting any event also provides with many job opportunities as the workforce required
for preparations is needed. The revenues generated by the government on selling of the tickets
also helps in increasing the economic development of the country.
Social Impact: When any country is hosting any sport events, many tourist visit along
with the players or to support any particular team of the sport. All these people new to the place
are introduced with the culture of the country by which other people get to know about the
country more.
Benefits to the destination as a whole and potential for a regional franchise.
Benefits to destination
There are lots of benefits to the destination to where any sport event is being hosted. The
benefits any country have are:
 It helps in increasing the public awareness of the destination (Melo and Leite, 2021).
 It helps in enhancing the image of the destination.
 It increases visitation of the country.
 It helps in increasing the compatibility of the destination with existing events.
 It helps in providing involvement opportunities with the volunteers, spectators and also
with the other officials of different countries.

 Hosting any event by the country helps in attracting many of the key market segments
like: corporates, etc.
Potential for a regional franchise
There are various potentials which are determined for a regional franchise. Few of them
are mentioned below:
 It localise brands and makes it known popularly.
 It helps in saving the incurring overheads.
 It also limits the investment to be made on the manpower.
 It helps in outreaching unique products and services.
 It also helps in bringing down the cost of advertisements of the sport event being
organised.
Recommendations
Considering the above report, it is recommended that the event hosting company may:
 Take advantage of various online ticketing platforms so that the country generate more
revenue. This will help in the economic development for the country.
 By using social media platform, the host could have attracted more individuals. Also
make offer discount to the groups and others.
 The government can also provide accommodations to the international tourist visiting
place for the tournament or sport at discounted rates for the promotion of culture of St.
Vincent.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is concluded that the sports tourism plays a major role in the
economic development of the country. It should be done in a systematic and planned manner so
that more tourists are attracted to the place which would result in the generation of revenue by
the country and its economic development.
