INTRODUCTION
Strategic management is determined as the ongoing process that includes various ctivities
such as planning of organisational goals, objectives and resources, monition all organisation
activities and all other assessment that are required to achieve all defined goals and objectives in
efficient manner. In the current business-environment there are various changes are take place it
is required to access all strategies on continuous bases and implement the suitable one in order to
attain all goals effectively. Basically, strategic management is related to manage all
organisational resources in effective manner and ensure their optimum utilisation in order to
complete business objectives on time. In includes analysation of current competitive
environment factors, evaluating various internal as well as external factors that affect business
functions, formulate effective strategies as well as ensuring that all strategies are implemented in
appropriate manner at all level of organisation. Sustainability is defined as the capacity of
organisation to complete all functions and activities without having any negative or harmful
impact on the environment and communities or society. Both factors decided the sustainability of
a business unit. In this report the chosen organisation is AstraZeneca which is a British-Swedish
multinational pharmaceutical as well as biotechnology company founded in 6 April 1999.
Headquarter is situated in the Cambridge, England and it provides its services at global level. In
this report internal analysis and various business strategies of respective organisation is being
covered. VRIO model, strategic capabilities and sustainability factors are being discussed in this
essay.
TASK
Internal analysis and its relation of internal approaches in business strategies:
Internal analysis is very important to analyse all organisational strengths, weakness,
capabilities as well as various sufficiency that are used in formulation of effective business
strategies in order to achieve all defined organisation goals and objectives in appropriate manner.
AstraZeneca evaluate all internal factors that facilitates respective organisation know all
capabilities and enhance strengths as well as reduce the weakness that affect business to perform
its functions in highly competitive environment. To deal with covid-19 situation it is very
important for AstraZeneca to evaluate all internal as well as external factors effectively in order
to sustain and become more competitive (Ashrafi, 2020). After analysing all factors and internal

approaches organisation develop business strategies in take various sustainable competitive
advantages. SWOT analysis is referred as the strategic planning that are used to analyse all
situations accordingly. SWOT analysis of AstraZeneca is discussed below:
Strengths: Strengths are referred as the internal insufficiencies of AstraZeneca that
provides it various advantages to survive in competitive environment (Carollo and Guerci, 2018).
Strong and effective customer relation, high customer satisfaction, strong distribution networks,
better performance in new market, high revenue and effective human resource as well as other
organisational resources enhance the strengths that facilitates the respective organisation to
achieve goals and objectives in defined manner.
Weakness: Weakness are defined as the area of AstraZeneca that have possibilities to
improve. There is weakness of respective organisation such as gap between product range that is
sold in market place, inefficient, unsystematic financial planning, inefficiency of human
resources to forecasting the demand of product requirement, low profitability ratio and limited
success outside the business activities are some factors that need improvement in order to remain
competitive in competitive environment.
Opportunities: Opportunities are some external factors that provide various benefits to
AstraZeneca to enhance business. Some opportunities of respective organisation are
advancement, automation and innovation of new technology, low transportation cost, new
customers of that engaged with business through online channels, opening new markets in across
the world, lower inflation rates and new trends of consumer behaviour provides various
opportunities to the organisation to expand its business in market as well as enhance profitability
and productivity level.
Threats: Threats are defined as the external factors that affect the business process and its
functionality of AstraZeneca (Chen, 2017). Intense competition, irregular supply of
organisational innovative products, new technology utilisation of competitors, shortages of
various workforce skills, raising rates of various raw materials affect the business and its growth
in various manner.
After analysation of those internal as well as external factors AstraZeneca formulate its
business strategies in order to gain various sustainable competitive advantages. All these factors
help the organisation to analyse in which area business is strong and on the bases of them it can
be able to maintain effective positioning as compared to its competitors and which areas
