INTRODUCTION
Strategic management is used to provide path for processing plans and strategies to achieve
goals and objectives for the growth and for the implementation of the plans. Strategic
management is used to gain lead from their competitors. This report include the strategies of
marks and Spencer company. Marks and Spencer is a British multinational company headquarter
situated in London and established by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer in 1884. This report
shows the method of the development and what are the leadership styles of this company and
also present about the change management model. So here is some following details and models
about the organization(Hitt and Duane Ireland, 2017).
TASK 1
Background information
Marks and Spencer company established by Michael Spencer and Thomas Spencer in
1884. It is multinational British company and their headquarter is in London. This company sells
the clothing products, home products, and food products and most of the products are sell by its
own label. M&S has 959 outlet across the U.K. And from 659 outlets there are around 600
stores for the food products. M&S also sells their products from online marketplace with good
services. In 1998 the company became first British merchant to made profit of over £1billion.
They origin their vesture and products from about 1000 factories and they have many top nations
of suppliers land site such as china, India, Turkey ,Sri Lanka etc. in 2016 they create map for the
company that shows where M&S products are made(Ethiraj, Gambardella and Helfa, 2016).
Methods of Development
M&S has different objectives and goals to make more growth and to make more profit.
They have to maintain all the factors (internal and external) to reduce the threats of the company
and to gain more opportunities for the company. They have different methods of development
most effective method development is training and development. Training and development
refers to education activity of the employees. M&S create a academy which is more liable for
training and development of the employees. Management development is very continuous
program for the organization.
