INTRODUCTION
In the recent time, tourism is the leading industry which is developing the economy of the
country to a greater extent. Thus, it is important to take several measures to develop places so as
to maintain their heritage value for the long run. Further, this will ultimately help to enhance the
tourism sector. Regular renovation and cleaning measures must be taken to increase with its
value. In order to attain the stated objective strategic planning is required which will ensure that
continuous improvements are made to the historic and other places (Moutinho ed., 2011). In UK,
there large number of places which needs to maintained to ensure their heritage for a longer time.
Thus, it is important to develop the tourism sector as it provides employment to large number of
people which help them to earn their living (Vila, Costa and Rovira, 2010). Further, in this report
the strategic planning is done to develop the places such as Charlton house which is located in
London. Thus, for this the BID need to take initiative to ensure the development of places which
will help them to maintain their value and attract large number of tourists towards them.

Tourism is considered as one of the most efficient sector which is serving with high
amount to the economy of the country. Thus, it has become highly important for them to take
several efforts for better planning of the activities related to tourism sector (Moscardo, 2011).
Further, it is been seen that tourism is an activity which involves with the physical, economic and
environmental planning on a regular basis. Thus it means that there is a greater need of planning
in context to the development of tourist places so that they can increase with the tourism sector
to a greater extent. Thus BID serves as a very efficient term in developing with the destination
places of the country. They are responsible for putting the money on renovation or modification
of them. Further, business Improvement Districts (BID) are developed for addressing the
economic development of some commercial areas. Further, for the area, duty is been charged on
to the business with addition to business rates bill. Thus, this levy earned is used for developing
the projects which are under BID. Moreover, this action will help to enhance the value of the
place and assist in increasing the heritage for longer period of time. In this, all the services are
been included such as cleaning, safety and the other environmental measures which will help to
procure the place in a better manner (Sigala, Christou and Gretzel eds., 2012). BID are the

initiatives taken by the private sector which help to improve the environment of the place.
Further, the services which are been financed by the BID help to develop with the places which
adds a high value to the economy of the country. With the dependence on the state statue, BID is
been funded by number of ways which mainly include the tax assessment and by the non-profit
organizations which work for the betterment of the country. They together work for the
development of the places which will help them to maintain the value of them to a greater extent.
It is been evaluated that with the help of BID, country is able to increase with the value of the
property as they serves with high development measures. Further, in the present time, BID is
highly focused on the tourism and leisure industry which is assisting London to develop with
their tourism industry to a great extent. It is highly responsible to work upon the projects which
are important for the upliftment of tourism industry a. BID is the major helping hand for the
areas as they take initiatives for its development and fund it on their behalf. It can be evaluated
that London is rich in its heritage and culture as there are large number of destinations which are
creating high attraction for people from different parts of the world (Heitmann, 2010). Thus, it
becomes necessary for procuring the monuments, rivers and other tourist destination (Evans,
Stonehouse and Campbell, 2012). There are many places in London which needed greater
planning for there development. Thus, BID plays an important role in taking several efforts for
for the deevlopment of the places. Further, Charlton House is the most prominent place to visit.
Moreover, the Jacobean building is the part which is highly rich in its heritage. Thus, it is
considered under BID which means that they are responsible for the development of the area
while ensuring its heritage value. Further, it will highly assist in enhancing the tourism industry
which will help to earn huge revenue for the economy (Murphy, 2013). The following are the
major benefits of BID:

 When the area is entitled under them than they are responsible for deciding and directing
as what has to be done in that area and take measures to develop it.
 They consider all the issues which are been faced by the place and provide the solutions
which will help to overcome with the problem in the long run (González, 2011).
 It will aid to develop the tourism industry which will enhance the economy of the
country.
 BID help to take responsibility of renovation and re-creating it which will ultimately help
to raise its value for a longer time.
 This contributes in enhancing promotion of the area for which the development has been

 It will assist in facilitating networking opportunities and large number of tourists towards

Thus it is important for the authorities to BID on the major places which serves with high
value to the places which will help to develop the economy of the country. Further, they must
come up with large number of projects which need to be developed so as to attract wide range of
tourists towards the place. Moreover, this will directly enhance the tourism sector to a greater
level and will help to serve the economy with higher amount.
B. Role of BID in strategic planning of tourism and leisure in London
BID is a real helping hand for the development of the strategic planning of tourism and
leisure industry in London. There are around 200 BID in UK which is satisfying the needs of
destinations so as to develop them (Morgan, Pritchard and Pride, 2011). Further, they work by
joining hands with several non-profit organizations which are working for developing the
heritage and environment of the country. Moreover, they together as a team take several
measures for ensuring that major destination in UK are developed and re-created.
Benefits:
BID is serving with large number of benefits for the development of the tourist places in
the country. They unifies with all the business for the achievement of common goals. They put
down all the money which is to be invested for the renovation of the historic buildings (Zhu,
2012). Further, they are major sources for the development of tourism sector to a greater level.
This involves that they provide with the funding of the projects which perform the tasks such as
cleaning of tourist areas, decorations, maintaining the parks and other historic places.

In contrast to this, they are also having large number of weaknesses aligned with it. This
is due to the reason that they take about considerable amount of time and resources for the
development of the places. As there are many places in London which serves with a greater
value to the tourism sector so it becomes difficult to decide with the places on which they need
set up the BID.
Moreover, they develop with powerful forums which may lead to political conflicts
among the local people. Further, it can be seen that Greenwich Heritage centre trust takes the
responsibility to maintain Charlton House of London. Thus, with BID, the Greenwich heritage
can develop the plans so as to ensure that the place is renovated and serve high value to London
in terms of attraction and promotion (Teng, Horng and Baum, 2013). Thus, this makes it a
popular place and it has becomes centre of attraction for the tourists to visit the place. Further, it
adds high value to the economy as it significantly contributes in developing the area. Thus, with
the development of the places, it will enhance the tourism sector to a greater level and will attract
large number of tourists towards there country (Page and Connell, 2010). Further, it is very
important to plan out for the most visited places in a strategic manner so as to ensure the
implementation of it in a efficient manner. It has been seen that, the old or the newly developed
places whether they exist naturally or are been developed by the people need regular
maintenance so as to maintain there value for longer time. Thus, it is necessary for the respective
authorities to evaluate with the places which need to be developed and renovated so that they can
take further measures to create them (Weaver, 2012). Thus this will help to enhance with the
value of the place which ultimately increase the fondness of people towards the destination.
Further, from the analysis made by collecting the data from the past years that tourism sector is
serving with large amount of money to the GDP of country. in the present era it is been coming
under the Royal Greenwich Heritage trust which highly supports the community to preserve with
the rich history of the monument and maintain with there value for the longer run (Beaumont and
Dredge, 2010). In 1925, Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich bought the ground and house and
taken charge to take care of it in an efficient manner. In the present time, it is been used as
museum rather than for providing to the public for there meetings and ceremonies. The strategy
of reuse of historic Charlton House has contributed in the strategic tourism development in
London and its nearby areas. Due to this, many of the domestic and international organizations

have organized their meetings and training sessions. This has increased the number of tourism at
this place which has helped in development of tourism in other areas of London in more effective
manner. Thus it is attracting large number of visitors as the museum serves with the information
and things of the ancient times. By studying this fact, it can be said that the development of the
sector is highly important to enhance the tourism sector to a greater level (Getz, 2012). Thus,
BID is very important to recreate the place as they are rich with the amount of funds that may be
used to develop with the place and increase with the value of the place. Further, non-profit
organization plays an important role in the development of the places as they merge up with the
BID and help to renovate the places which will help to increase the tourism and leisure industry

to develop and recreate with the place for the long run. Thus, it helps the country to maintain its
historic or ancient value and help to attract many tourists towards there place. In UK there are
many places which are build in the ancient time and till now serves with a greater value to the
people so it is crucial for them to take several measures to renovate it whenever required.

A Details about Charlton House London
London serves as one of the most efficient place with large number of historic attractions
for visiting. Further, they are having highly impressive and iconic tourist places which attract
large number of people towards it. There are many historic places like Tower bridge, HM tower
of London, Hampton court palace, Kensington palace etc. which are a part of attractions for the
tourists (Seddon, Calvert and Yang, 2010). Further, Charlton house is one of the oldest
monument which serves as greater value in the historic times. It is also serving with greater value
in the tourism and leisure sector in London. According to the analysis, it is considered as one of
the finest and well preserved Jacobean house in London. Further, the design is highly attributed
to John Thorpe. He was one of the best British architects prevailing in the earlier times (Haven‐
Tang and Jones, 2012). The house was developed for the Prince Henry. Moreover, there is a
black and white vast marble monument in the Church. It has a long history of the successors and
there life story. Thus, its was passed to many people. In the year 1767 and 1923, it was owned by
Maryon-Wilson family who were highly been responsible for the enclosing of the village green

in the house. This is the main reason behind the original gateway to the house which is now
standing stranded in the centre of the front lawn (Jamal, Taillon and Dredge, 2011). Further it
has been seen that the house is restored in an efficient for several years. It is well maintained and
give a clear view of the ancient times of the house. Moreover, the Church was highly damaged
by the bomb at the time of World war second which in the passing has to be developed. Further,
in 877 the extension was given to the south of the house which than developed with a fabulous
public library after the purchases made by the local council (Wang and Hong, 2011). It is not
wholly developed for the public as some of its parts are preserved for the community centre and
it is the licensed venue for the civil partnerships or arranging a wedding party. Thus, in the

history. In the summer season the visitors can have lunch sitting outside and enjoying. There are
many gardens and parks which attract the people to enjoy with the environment and relax for
some time. Further, the newly planted Walled and Sensory gardens are considered to be one of
the most efficient place for contemplation over the year (Heung, Kucukusta and Song, 2011).
Further, in the Charlton house there is a provision of organizing with the concerts and events
which are to developed on the large scale. Thus, it highly attract many people from different
countries to join the concert and enjoy to the fullest. Further, many events are regarding the
business terms which gathers with many corporates and businessman to come there and be a part
of it. This enhances with the demand for the tourism sector by the people. Moreover, it helps to

enhance the employment rate by greater percentage as tourism industry is highly connected with
large number of other fields like hospitality sector (Alberti and Giusti, 2012).
Importance of reuse of buildings
Thus, it is an ancient places which is having a high value in the eyes of people. Thus, for
it, many people from different countries come to visit it and acquire the knowledge about the
historic times (Reddy,York and Brannon, 2010). It is highly rich with its value as there a
museum which develops with a high level of fondness for the place as they can see many ancient
items in the present time. The students, families, archaeologists etc. are the people who are very
much interested in gathering the information about the historic times and can make research
study according to it. For many people these things and learnings are a part of there assignments
(Vanhove, 2011). Thus, it can be said that it is serving with high value in the tourism sector of
UK as people coming from different places are highly fond of the place which ultimately
increases the popularity of the place. Thus, it is highly contributing in terms of socially and
economically.
Benefits to local area socially and economically
As it serves with the sculptures and monuments of the ancient era, it gives a great
importance to the social factor as people get to know about the culture and value of the earlier
people. Further, this adds a value to the lives of individual as they came across with the things
which may lead them to the path of success (Mok, Sparks. and Kadampully, 2013). In addition to
this, the place is attracting wide range of people so they are adds on to the increase in the
economy of the country. It is one of the spacious place which is serving with large amount of
money to the sector in terms of food, entry fees and in the other means which is highly beneficial
to raise the GDP of the country. It is been developed and procured by the Greenwich trust which
takes several measures to maintain the building properly (Molz, 2012). They also make efforts to
recreate it so that it can provide with high satisfaction the tourists. Thus, it can be said that
Charlton house is highly beneficial for the tourism sector of UK as it serves with high amount of

can be divided into three major groups: natural, cultural and built. Historic sites and places have
represented a huge collection of human creation for the other people. These have considered as
the best example of entire span of human history. It has enhanced the knowledge and mobility of
the travellers at a particular place and it has delivered the development in tourism of that nation
(Reddy, York and Brannon, 2010). There are many of the historic buildings which has reused by
the government for various purposes. But the aim behind of adopting this strategy is
development of tourism development in specific locations and its nearby areas in an effective
manner. The result of this, it has increased the number of travellers in that country (Mok, Sparks
and Kadampully, 2013).

Charlton House (Royal Greenwich Heritage) is one of the historic buildings of the UK

This space has utilized by government bodies to the organization for meetings, trainings, board
meetings, conferences etc. The available space has the capacity of accommodated up to 120
people in a single time (Haven‐Tang and Jones, 2012). Charlton House can be considered as an
ideal place for the companies to meet and train their employees around the world. At the time of
providing the place for the meeting, management of the building has provided flip chart, paper
and pens as well as use of data projectors, laptops and TV/video to the organizations as per their
needs on hiring charges basis. Along with this, different varieties of food has provided to clients
during the meeting such as gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan food, refreshments and catering
(Wang and Hong, 2011). The strategy of reuse of historic Charlton House has contributed in the
strategic tourism development in London and its nearby areas. Due to this, many of the domestic
and international organizations have organized their meetings and training sessions. This has
increased the number of tourism at this place which has helped in development of tourism in

Charlton House has provided the perfect backdrop to the weeding couples on their big
day. This is one of the good examples of Jacobean domestic architecture in the country which

Afternoon Tea:
Many of the visitors have booed their afternoon tea in Charlton House. They have entire
came with small or large groups. This has given them opportunity to look this historic place with

With the help of this, the government has taken a good step in the direction of development of

Baum, 2013). Further, it is important for London to adopt with strategic planning for developing
with the tourist places which will help to attract large number of people. Moreover, they must
reuse with the historic buildings for other purposes also so that they can earn more money for
there economy (Nudurupati and et.al., 2011).

From the above report, it can be concluded that BID plays an important role in the
development of the monuments and ancient building as well as other tourist destination. It is due
to the fact that they highly fund the places and take measures to procure the place to a greater
extent. Further, in UK BID is provided for many places so as to maintain the destination to a
higher extent. Further, it is been analysed that London is one of the most efficient place which is
highly in demand for the tourists as there are many places to visit. Charlton house is one of the
destination place for the visitors and is been serving with high level of social and economical
factor to the country. Thus, it is important for the tourism sector to take measures for procuring
the place to a greater extent so that it helps to maintain its value for the long run. This will help
to increase the tourism industry to a greater extent. The BID must join hands with several non-
profit organizations so as to develop with the destinations in an efficient manner. It is also been
evaluated that with the coming time tourism sector is growing to a greater heights and is serving
a greater amount to the economy which helps to grow the country to the next level. Thus, BID
helps the country to maintain its historic or ancient value and help to attract many tourists
towards there place. In UK there are many places which are created in the ancient time and till
now serves with a greater value to the people so it is crucial for them to take several measures to
renovate it whenever required.
