Discussion
International Student Exchange
Studying in overseas opens up the world for the student. They experiences different
cultures, makes new friends and may learns new language. This helps in bringing fresh
perspective on the degree of student and they get out from their own comfort zone. The study
programs of overseas ranges from the short tours of study and it lasts for couple of the weeks
to year-long exchange of student. The credit from study depends upon the choice of course by
the student but awarding of credit amount depends upon the academic system of the
institution. There are two kinds of overseas study programs, which are programs of Formal
student exchange and the second one is study abroad programs (Akanwa 2015). The former
programs is consists of swapping one’s place at one’s home institutions with the other student

3INTRODUCTION TO AUSTRALIA
The later programs allows the students enrolled at institutions for undertaking study with the
overseas institutions but the students are normally not covered by the agreements between
their provider of home and their institutions of host (Beech 2015).
While the tours of study offers structured tour in predetermined country that is
organized by the course faculty or coordinator, the study abroad programs and exchange are
basically the institutions-wide programs, which are run by exchange office and special abroad
programs. It means that they help in enabling lot more choices. The determination of
country’s choice for exchange programs might be done by institutions and arrangement that
are having with the overseas partner institutions (Geddie 2015). However, at the other
institution students are having wider ranges of the countries and institutions for choosing
from. In case of students exchange programs, students may make the choice to pick the study
destination more than one, when exchange office is not able to secure first preference of
students. There are some of factors that needs to be considered, while selecting the study
destination of overseas. These factors includes language, cost of living, countries of interest,
further travel and course (Bohman and Borglin 2014). If the student is not comfortable
studying and living in counties, where they language of that country is difficult for them.
Further, if the cost of engaging and living in the particular country is higher, then they might
have to incur higher costs for socializing, seeing sights and other activities. The student
chooses that country, where they have always dream for visiting. Moreover, students are
more likely for choosing country, which they would like to travel after or before completing
course of the overseas study. Lastly, for availing full benefits of the exchange, one needs to
try to pick destinations, which excels in the industry. It will enable the student for learning
further, begin for making contacts with industry and possibly completing the internship
(Collins et al. 2014).
