Introduction
Applied research is carried out with the view of searching for solutions to counter
problems facing a business enterprise or the society. The inquiry of an applied research is non-
systematic and is launched by an individual, agency or a company with the purpose of addressing
a specific problem. This report will cover some fundamental aspects of an Applied Research.
Q 1. What information should you clarify and confirm when undertaking applied
research?
The researcher should first focus on the problem statement. By clarifying the problem
statement, research question can be developed (Chalmers, et al., 2014, pp.160). Example of such
information includes what the individual or the agency identifies as the problem. This guides the
rest of the research process.
Q 2. How can you clarify and confirm information regarding Applied Research?
This information can be confirmed by analyzing the background data and the literature
review.
Q 3. How can you collect and maintain data in a systematic manner?
The researcher should identify the opportunities to collect data, set the goals for data
collection, plan the method used for collection of data, collect the actual data and finally analyze
the data and act on the result.
Q 4. What factors affecting reliability and validity of data might you need to address?

Reliability is the extent through which a measurement provides consistent result while
validity is the degree to which a measurement is error free. They both are affected by the
subject’s biases during data collection, poor data collection techniques and failure to locate some
subjects for follow up.
Q 5. What are 6 things an applied research strategy might cover?
These 6 factors include; The method to be used in data collections, ways of meeting the
research objectives, formulation of the research hypothesis and the ethical concerns of the
research (Schonfeld, et al., 2014, pp. 430). Additionally, the purpose of the research and
limitations are to be covered in the strategy.
Q 6. What criteria should a hypothesis meet?
The hypothesis should be able to specify the correlation between variables, it should be
simple and concise and it should be testable and falsifiable (Harriss and Atkinson, 2013,
pp.1026). furthermore, it should be able to distinguish the independent and dependent variable.
Q 7. How should you frame a research strategy?
In coming up with the research strategy, it is important to define the research topic. This
is through understanding the subject matter and internalizing the requirements. The researcher
should also do background research to understand existing literature. Additionally, one can
develop research questions which will determine the method of study to be carried out.
Q 8. What factors should you consider in relation to methods, tools, and data collection
techniques used in research?
