My primary team role is that of an implementer. Implementers are those people who are always proactive and get things done. The implementers are also responsible for turning the theoretical considerations of a project into reality. According to my experience as a gas engineer, my responsibility was to manage people. Sometimes, we faced bad situations where using my colleagues we got the job done. My second team role is that of a team worker. The team workers are responsible for ensuring the work of the team in an efficient way. They are also responsible for negotiating among the team members for getting more flexible decisions. As per my experience, I along with my colleagues always used to get the job done by consulting with each other and then implementing any decisions. Dear All, According to the recent email sent regarding our group presentation meeting on 11/07/2017, we were supposed to come for a meeting. However, due to the presence of some unavoidable circumstances, I would not be able to attend the meeting. The reason for this is that I will be attending an appointment at work. So, please I am requesting a change in the meeting date as I will be available on 18/07/2017 between 2 to 3pm. I am apologising for any inconvenience I might have caused. The Group 11
Outcomes (What did you achieve/decide?) On our first day in the group, we met with each other and acquainted. We also exchanged our numbers and created a common group to pass on necessary information like a Whatsapp group or a hangout group. We also came to a conclusion of choosing the oil and gas industry as the topic for our presentation. Time Management (How effective was your use of the time?) The time management was efficiently done by the leader of our group as he brought the agenda to be followed which minimized the time. Communication (How well did you communicate with each other?) The effectiveness of the group was reflected in the way communication was going. Every opinion of each members were listened and the use of non-verbal behaviours were promoted. This helped them to clarify their thoughts regarding the presentation. The agenda of the meeting was always set by the leader of the group. Dealing with Conflict (How did you deal with any disagreement?) Conflicts were resolved in three steps. The first step was the identification of a conflicting point. The second step taken was to control the negative impacts of them. The third step that was taken was keeping the communications open. This helped minimizing the conflict. Yourself Participation (How much did you participate in the discussion?I gave my all in the participation and my ideas were also taken. Contribution (What ideas did you contribute?)I contributed to the legal cases of the presentation like what must be our strong points. Communication (How well did you explain yourself and listen to others?) My communication can be termed as good as everyone including the group leader was focussed on what i have to say. I also listened to what other people have to say and modified my opinions accordingly. Management of the Discussion (How much did you help to ensure the meeting was productive?) I decided to call my group members in case and thus helped to ensure the commencement of the meeting. Action Points (what could you / your group do better in future meetings) For our future meetings, the group leader will think about the dates before finalizing the meeting. As we have created social groups, it might have been easier to discuss the possibility of a common date before communicating via an email. 12

Portfolio Evidence [Week 6] Resolving problems and conflict Identify difficulties you have encountered within your groups and comment on your actions and the outcomes in the table below. Issues may include students not attending classes or responding to emails, disagreements within the group, a lack of effort from some students or a tendency to dominate in others. Refer to theories/strategies covered in your lecture in relation to these issues (300-400 words). Activity: Resolving Problems and Conflict Define ProblemThe actions takenPositive outcomes for myself The effect upon other people Further action needed 1In case of team members contributing, a competition for doing the most of the tasks was there which created a tension to succeed among the members. The tasks was equally shared among the members I received my fair share of work Some people got a bit more from their assigned works The works with more actions was to be further divided so that pressure from one person was reduced 2The researching phase gave some problems. As the internet is a vast place, the members got unequal information. Further research was taken to analyse the report so that the team member would not feel different than the rest I got a general idea regarding the research and also got an idea of bringing the url of the resource from the internet. Some people got frustrated as they were asked to do the job clearly The group leader must have taken the initiative for applying research skills and suggesting better ways to the members. 16

Portfolio Evidence [Week 7] Cross-cultural awareness/negotiating Negotiations are complex. One factor is how different cultures approach negotiating when doing business internationally. In the following scenario, what cultural misunderstandings could occur and what strategies can you undertake to minimise those misunderstandings? Write two paragraphs (100-150 words). Scenario: Saudi Arabia is using its vast oil wealth to build $400bn of new infrastructure with major rail, healthcare and construction projects. A British and Chinese company have been awarded two of the largest contracts. They need to negotiate with each other and the Saudis to plan some of the transport projects. When negotiation is done among people of varied cultures, various obstacles will be faced that will hinder the process. These obstacles mainly include unfamiliarity with laws, governments and ideologies. This is the reason for increased complexity in understanding business solutions which affects negotiation among the business parties. The need for a better communication standards and understandings are needed for better business processes. Thus, the need for a better communication is necessary. For thus reason a quality translator for negotiating among the parties is the first requirement. The second requirement is planning of the key points that will be presented to the other parties for making a negotiation. Moreover, the British and the Chinese companies must also come to an understanding of these projects to make Saudi Arabia a great infrastructure for transportation sectors. 17

Why? What have you learnt about the professional skills needed (from the research you have done for your presentation/video)? Why are these skills important? Give specific examples. This section of the assignment discusses about the professional skills required. This assignment is about the innovations and the achievements made in the oil and the gas industry. The oil and gas industry is mainly involved in the extraction of resources. These extractions occur from natural sources like pools in earth or in deep sea bodies. The roles played by this industry is immense and the economic stability that it fulfils towards any country is tremendous.
