Abstract
Sustainability in the hospitality industry is one of the recent changes that has contributed to
preserving natural resources and the environment for the benefit of all people that are living in
society. There are numerous benefits that companies have gained through promoting
sustainability such as generation of profit, creation of strong brand image in mind and hearts of
customers.
INTRODUCTION
The report is on the sustainability in hospitality industry. The study reflects on questions as to
why the change is necessary of sustainability, who it will be affecting and what impact it will be
having on the industry, the competition in the area and how the change can happen, considering
the risks and comparing and contrasting with other people work in similar situation. The
recommendations of the report are given in the end.
Sustainability
The concept of sustainability in hospitality industry has been developed due to increase
number of pollution, wastage through by organisation in water bodies that resulted in causing
harm to environment as well as water animal. The people as well as government has started
becoming more and more concerned about protection of environment, natural resources so that
they are available for present and future generation. It has been initially developed in 1987 that
state “sustainable tourism is process of meeting present as well as future needs of tourist through
protecting natural environment or making bets possible resources.” Many international
organisations such as UNWTO (world tourism organisation) have taken active part to promote
sustainable tourism so that all people can enjoy a particular place (Tanford, Kim and Kim,
2020). With increase number of tourist coming of UK across the years, it has enforce people,
government and organisation to protect their culture, resources and environment so that local
community can peacefully live and future tourist or people can also enjoy the same.
The concept of sustainability in hospitality industry of United Kingdom or change is
important because of threat of global warming and negative harm caused to environment.

Moreover, the customers are also wants to be part of company that undertake steps towards
sustainable management in hospitality industry so that they can maintain the beauty of
environment. They are expecting from companies that they reduce use of single use plastic so
that resources can be saved for existing and future generation. So, it is become necessary
business to adapt to sustainability concept in order to retained their brand image, attract more and
more customers within firm so that end objectives can be achieved. In addition to this company
through making environment technology is able to enhance guest experience to maximum
extend. Sustainable tourism also helps in attracting more and more tourist round the year for
maximum time frame to come and enjoy their leisure time (Tanford, Kim and Kim, 2020). It
also lead in preserving culture, value and ethics of local community thus making them happy
and satisfied and contributing in the economic growth through generating employment
opportunities. Furthermore it has been learned that the concept of sustainability hospitality is
important as it helps in effective management of wastage, optimum use of available resource and
less emission of gases into the air. In addition to this it also helps in effective engagement of
stakeholder in promotion of sustainability practices so that hospitality and tourism industry can
grow for many years. Therefore it can be stated that all these are major points that clearly states
the importance of concept of sustainability for economic, individuals, organisation and many
more. So, all of them need to co-ordinately take steps to promote sustainable tourism across UK
with an motivate to grow tourism sector for many years.
From the secondary research it has been identified that there are numerous positive
impact of sustainable in hospitality sector of United Kingdom such as it helps in conserving the
natural and cultural resources. So that the maximum benefits can be enjoy by current and future
generation. It also contributed in effective planning and management of tourism and hospitality
industry so that no serious harm can be caused to environment or social culture of society.
Furthermore it lead in maintaining as well as improving the quality of environment through
making effective or optimum use of resources for benefits of all. At the same time it helps in
maintaining and improving the quality of environment. Another impact is that sustainable
tourism leads in equal distribution of resources through the society so that people can sufficient
resources in order to live better lifestyle (Alshehhi, Nobanee and Khare, 2018). So it leads in
social, economical and national development through preserving natural resources and heritage,
environment of particular country. Likewise it also leads in enhancing tourist experience through
