Executive Summary
The primary purpose of this report is to discuss about community programs and the
sustainability measures undertaken by Telstra. The report also talks about my contribution in
the group presentation and about my learning experience in relation to the presentation.

Learning from case study
I was able to learn with the help of the case study that Telstra which is a provider of
the mobile phones along with broadband internet focuses on strategies that help in protecting
the community. The knowledge was gathered through the case study that getting involved
with the local communities can help an organization in surviving within the competitive
environment. The fostering of the inclusive communities can help in empowering the
company that can help it in surviving within the digital world. Telstra makes use of
technologies that can help it in addressing the environmental challenges (Telstra.com.au.,
2019). Telstra made an annual income of $ 25.7 billion in the year 2016 and the taxable
income of Telstra was $ 6 billion. The company paid $ 1.7 in terms of taxes and it was the
biggest tax bill in reference to any ICT company. Telstra has provided a boost to the R & D
in Australia as it supports the projects of various universities along with the research
institutions that can prove to be relevant for the business of Australia. Telstra considers the
environmentally focussed projects that proves to be beneficial for the community in
Australia. I learnt that business plays a crucial role that can help in addressing the issue of
climate change in the present age. I was able to acquire the knowledge that the company is
committed to environment and they take necessary precautions so that the impact of the
company on the community along with the environment is minimised across that of the value
chain. The community programs undertaken by the company helps in serving the community
of Australia. I learnt that the company works in partnership with various community agencies
like The Salvation Army, Anglicare Australia, The Smith Family and St Vincent de Paul. The
company has the Access for everyone program helps in providing services to the people who
are in some kind of financial difficulty (Chioatto, 2017).

It was learnt by taking recourse to the case study that the organization plays a crucial
role in the event of natural disasters taking place in Australia. The telecommunications
provider plays a significant role when they are facing disaster along with emergency. The
company helps the emergency service organisation pertaining to their telecommunication
requirements. It was learnt that that communications technicians of Telstra enters the disaster
affected areas so that the telecommunications services can be restored to the customers
(Pavlidis & Hawkins, 2015). It was learnt that the reputed organisation provides the Satellite
on Wheels that helps in boosting coverage in the areas where it is needed. The company plays
an integral role in the co-ordination of emergency services in situations of disaster. I learnt
that company provides the assistance packages for the people who struggle in the aftermath
of that of a disaster. Assistance packages are provided to the customers who have been
affected by storms, tropical cyclones along with floods. I got the information that the
company makes payphones free so that they can be used within the disaster affected areas
(Crane & Matten, 2016). The company provides support measures like recharge vouchers
along with access to the broadband within the evacuation centres.
Telstra play an important role that helps in managing the carbon emissions and ensure
resource efficiency. The company takes care of the fact that climate change risks are
contained within the networks of Future program (Cox, 2016). I learnt that the company
takes steps that enable the aspect of low carbon economy as it reduces the carbon emissions
of the customers. I was able to learn that company plays a leading role in managing the
environmental footprint by encouraging innovation in relation to digital products along with
services (Laszlo & Zhexembayeva, 2017). The company creates environmental solutions that
help in protecting and improving environment. I was able to learn that the company makes
products that cater to the needs of the individuals who have disability.

Role in Group Presentation and learning experience
I played an important role in the group oral presentation and my overall learning
experience was positive. I found out how the company makes programs that helps in assisting
the people who have low income. I searched about the Pensioner Discount Scheme along
with the improved billing that helps in providing valuable services to the needy people in
Australia. I took the responsibility of finding out how the company carries out partnership
with the community agencies within Australia that plays a crucial role in helping people who
have been affected by disaster. I was able to give the input regarding how the partners can
help people in relation to the bill payment. The learning experience can be said to be positive
as it helped in pointing out how helping the community can help a company in being
profitable in the long run. The sustainability measures undertaken by a company can help a
company in survival within that of the competitive environment. The support measures
undertaken by the company like recharge vouchers helps the people who are struck with
disaster. The learning experience can be said to be enriching as it was gathered by me with
the help of research how the company provides assistance packages that works to the benefit
of the consumers.
