1SUSTAINABILITY POLICY AND PROCEDURE ASSESSMENT 5
1. Task 1 – Sustainability Implementation Report
1.1. Analysis of Staff Results and Achievements against Targets
One of the main targets of the sustainability policy drawn up was to make the staff
members of Grow Management Consultants aware of the importance and the significance of
sustainability measures and initiatives. The sustainability policy is not only aimed at assisting
in the conservation of the natural environment in Australia but also to make people in the
country, particularly those working for the company aware of the necessity of engaging in
eco friendly practices in order to ensure the wellbeing of the surrounding natural
environment. The policy has been successfully circulated among all the staff members who
are working at Grow Management Consultants including the four new members who have
joined the company very recently. It can be said that the policy is one that has been well
received on the part of all of the staff members right from the top level management to the
most junior of employees at Grow Management Consultants. All of the staff members agree
that the policy is adequate for ensuring environmental sustainability that it should be
implemented fully in order to help in the conservation of energy and other environmental
resources thus preventing a drain and strain on the natural environment. Staff members of
Grow Management Consultants have been proactive in making sure that lights are switched
off when not being used, that the use of bright lights is opted for, for the most part, that
fluorescent lamps are always used in the place of incandescent lamps and that energy
efficient heating and cooling systems, including the new air conditioning systems that
consume less power are made use of, for the sake of environmental sustainability.
1.2. Analysis of Energy Audit Data and Achievements against the Targets
When it comes to the use of electric energy in particular one of the main aims of the
environmental sustainability policy at Grow Management Consultants was to bring about a

reduction in the use of electric energy by as much as twenty percent within a period of six
months. An energy audit was carried out at Grow Management Consultants after the
implementation of the workplace sustainability policy over a period of six months and the
results of the energy audit are largely positive in nature. It was found that prior to the energy
audit being carried out, electrical energy consumption at the organization amounted to as
much as 18 tones year, with special reference to green house emissions and that the power
bill of the company on an annual basis amount to as much as % 2415. After six months,
following the energy audit, it was seen that the power bill of the company stood at $ 1800
annually and that green house gas emissions had fallen to just 10.2 tonnes a year. A
significant reduction was therefore seen in both the amount of the energy bill and the rate of
green house gas emissions signifying that the target of bringing about a reduction in the use
of electric energy by at least twenty percent within a period of six months is something that
Grow Management Consultants was able to achieve, upon implementing its workplace
sustainability policy. After a period of one year, however, another energy audit was carried
out and it was seen that the power bill of the company stood at $ 2215 a year and the rate of
green house gas emissions stood at 14 tonnes a year, which is still less than the figures of $
2415 and 18 tonnes of green house gas emission, which had been the case prior to the
sustainability policy being implemented. The slight increase in the consumption of electric
energy over a period of six months following the first energy audit can be accounted for by
the fact that the company hired four new employees in this period of time.
1.3. Recommendations for Additional Actions based on the Data above
Some of the additional actions that can be taken on the part of Grow Management
Consultants in order to improve its workplace sustainability policy is to opt for the use of
more efficient inverter units in the place of the existing air conditioning systems, to replace
halogen lighting with even more efficient lighting systems and to avoid using electricity for
