INTRODUCTION
Sustainable development means a development that can meet the needs of present
without making compromise to the future generation in order to meet their own needs (Carley
and Christie, 2017). This study is going to show some roles and importance of energy in
developing and accomplishing sustainable goals. It will also show some issues that arises in
accomplishing sustainable development goals all are relevant to energy.
MAIN BODY
Role of energy in sustainable development goals
Sustainable development can be defined in many ways as it is a development that can be
done without hurting natural resources. There are several challenges are being faced by
humankind related to energy and environment like water scarcity, hunger, climate change etc. It
can only be solved when all companies and people focus on sustainable development and apply
that tools that can help the company and people in accomplishing their goals without hurting
natural resources.
In the context of SDG relevant to energy, it can be said that it is a global goal whose main
aim is to provide clean energy source by expanding infrastructure and improving technology.
There are several roles which are being played by energy in accomplishing sustainable
development goals. From the article it is evaluated that solar photo voltaic energy is providing
energy and will provide more energy in the future as compare to other renewable energies. This
solar photo voltaic energy and its development is also supported by the state government and
central government as well. In India there is a renewable energy trend that are helping to
industries etc. Some Indian government policies also helping in promoting solar energy that can
help stakeholders as well as decision makers in order to know all challenges, current status and
solution for effective planning (Renewable and sustainable energy, 2016).
In addition, and in the context of importance and roles of energy for sustainable
development goals it is also analysed that improved biomass burning stoves and awareness
about using energy in an effective manner is helping people as it is improving the air quality
which is also improving health of people. Liquefied petroleum gas, ethanol and other cleaner
fuels is not only improving the health of people but also majorly contributing in accomplishing
environmental and sustainable goals (Energy for sustainable development, 2018) Cook stove

program which uses LPG and fuel will yield greater reduction in global warming as well as
disability adjusted life years. It also reduces cost and infrastructure requirements that is
beneficial for the future generation. It is also stated that majority of the power generation in India
is carried out by conventional energy sources and fossil fuels is the main source that contribute in
greenhouse gas emission and global warming. But the electricity generation from renewable
sources is the main commitment which can improve the security of energy supply. Frugal
innovations are also associated with sustainable development goals. Frugal innovations are
helping out to increase capacity of energy production and water purification. This model mainly
focuses on capacity building and inclusion of marginalized low income people. Approximate
41% of total household and 2.8 Billion people rely on coal and biomass for heating and cooking
that is increasing problems but implementation of world health organization indoor air quality
guidelines helping out them in solving this problem and improving sustainable development.
So, it can be said that energy and support of Indian government is playing an integral part
in accomplishing sustainable development goals.
Issues arise in achieving sustainable development goals that are relevant to energy
Energy is the main requirement for people's daily life as it is the best way of improving
human development that can lead and help in economic growth. There are several factors that
occur and affect renewable energy sustainability and supplies. The impacts of barriers and
factors is mainly depended upon the policy of the country that can affect the cost and
technological innovation. Technological innovation can affect the cost of renewable energy that
is the main reason of the failure of the market and lower sustainable development (Sustainable
issues and renewable energy, 2016). There are several other factors that are heavily affecting
renewable energy supplies and sustainability.
Due to market pressure, awareness of sustainability and attracting wider range of
customers, an increasing number of industries are seeking to use energy in an effective manner.
Some external factors like energy tax, capital budget, loans for energy efficiency investments are
some main factors that can increase the overall cost of industries. While developing an effective
energy for accomplishing sustainable development goals, all these factors can affect the cost and
productivity. Some other factors like lack of manager's influence, technical risks, lack of
technical staff, top management commitment are seriously affecting energy efficiency and other
industries (Barriers to energy efficiency management, 2015). Other issues which are required to

address while making an effective plan for sustainable development include: food security,
health risk to community and need for strict security are some challenges that can occur due to
nuclear power. Renewable energy also amount to approximate 21% of the total energy consumed
worldwide. Dependence of fossil fuels also causing several problems like: urban air pollution,
depletion of resources, emission of carbon dioxide gas that is the main reason of greenhouse
effect. Sometimes this dependence become the reason of international conflicts as well.
So, it can be said that there are several factors can effect the time of developing
sustainable goals that are relevant to energy. For making an effective change, there is a
requirement to make an effective policy by government because governmental policy and
support can help industries and people to solve all these challenges.
CONCLUSION
From the above study it has been summarized that sustainable development played a vital
role as it fulfills the needs of people in an effective manner. It has shown some roles of energy as
it improved clean cooking fuels that helped in accomplishing sustainable goals. It has also
discussed some issues that occurred while achieving SDP in the context and relevant to energy.
