Introduction
Sustainability is defined as laying emphasis on addressing the requirements of present
scenario without compromising future generations to acknowledge their needs. The art of
inspiring group of people for acting towards attainment of identical goal is referred to as
leadership. This involves directing colleagues through which organisational objectives can be
achieved. Sustainable leadership refers to formulation of plans along with preparation for the
succession (Adler and Laasch, 2020). This is associated with adopting liable approaches through
which leader can lead and take actions that creates influence on the environment and society. The
pandemic situations have altered the way in which firms deliver their services and to cope up
with the changing environment certain restrictions have been imposed by the Government. This
creates a significant impact on the sustainability of the resources like if in access the resources
are utilised then it might be a very process for having same services again. The rationale of the
proposal to furnish insight into creation of sustainable leadership through which present and
future needs can be addressed. The themes that will be considered here are:
Different leadership styles
Women and BAME leadership development programme
Kotter’s 8-step approach for outlining change
For exploring these changes, M&S can be taken as an example that deals within the retail sector.
Leadership Style
Adoption of a leadership style that draws on a maximum of two leadership theories
Leadership is defined as the ability of an individual to persuade the behaviour as well as
traits of other individuals so that they can be made to work in the favour of the organisational
growth as well as development. In this relation, it has been analysed that the current era is
affected by the global pandemic situation in the wake of COVID-19 outspread. Characterised by
this situation, it has become important for companies to facilitate changes in their leadership
style (Aleksoski, Stojanovska-Stefanova and Magdinceva Sopova, 2020). Beneath is a proposal
consisting of 2 leadership theories and a model that will characterise the development of a new
leadership style.
Charismatic Leadership

Charismatic leadership is defined as a leadership style in which a leader influences the
masses through his excellent personal skills of grace and outstanding communication ability.
This type of leadership primarily focuses on the leader himself, relating to his actions and
persona, rather than the procedure and structure. Charismatic leaders are known to be highly
dynamic and portray an inspirational personality. They have outstanding communication skills
which motivate the employees during hard times, building their trust and creating a positive
impact on them. Confidence is a must-have attribute possessed by a charismatic leader. A proper
eye contact with the one they are talking to creates an authentic image. Being a good listener
rules the personality of a charismatic leader. They are always engaged in the process of self-
monitoring and self-improving to create a better version of themselves.
Advantages: Charismatic leadership encourages the employees by creating a high level of
motivation and an inspiring workplace. Moreover, it focuses on teamwork and builds an
emotional connection with the employees, by not letting any of their words go unheard.
Charismatic leadership clarifies its objective by broadening the vision of the employees and
making them visualize their perspective through a better lens (Andriukaitienė and et. al, 2017).
In addition to, charismatic leadership helps to reduce turnover costs of an organization thereby
enhancing high output in a short period of time, with a motivating environment in the workplace.
