Part A: Initial Investigation
Activity 1:
Background Study
Natural Lee is the case study that is considered for this report. This is a farm that grows
organic vegetables, produces honey, fruits and nuts and grows decorative plants. This organic
farm is run by Phil and his wife Wendy. This farm produces organic vegetables and fruits and
booking is mostly done as manual system. In the present system, the booking is done over the
phone when the customer calls Phil or his wife. Sometime, the customer also prefers self-pickup
of the goods they ordered over the phone. Goods are also delivered to their home as per their
requirement. In that case, employees associated with the farm makes the home delivery.

Business Functions
As the business is expanding, the owner of Natural Lee needs the help of information
system in the business to handle all these operations. Phil wants the information system to take
orders automatically and maintain the system. This information system would increase customer
satisfaction and would also handle the marketing aspects in farming. The new IS system will
display the customers all veggies that are presently available in the farm and will also help in
reducing the time of ordering. This system would also recommend the customers what to buy
based on their previous purchase from Natural Lee. Phil manages the farm production and his
wife has responsibility to manage the marketing side.
Activity 2: System Vision Document
Introduction
The main purpose of this project is to develop an information system for the Natural Lee
which is owned by Phil and Wendy.
The scope included in project is to provide a detailed project plan for completing the
project successfully. This project will define the project schedule to complete the project,
includes cost benefit analysis for completing the project and the risks management for
completing the project successfully.
Positioning

5SYSTEM ANALYSIS AND DESIGN
The Business opportunity that is provided for the company is the company can complete
business processes faster compared to the manual system. The business can increase the
customer satisfaction and will increase the business profit in the market.
The problem that the business is facing is dealing with different customers and taking
orders on phone. This process is time taking and also results in many mistakes. This system will
help to synchronize the business process and result in completing the processes faster.

Lee that is Phil and Wendy. There are other stakeholders as well who are associated with the
project. The stakeholders included are project manager, business analysts, project sponsor,
financial manager, subject matter experts, developers and many more.
Product Overview
The product overview states that the project initiation plan for implementing the
information system in natural lee is detailed in this report. The system will show all the details of
the items available in the store right now. The system will also able to take orders from the
customer and deliver them accordingly. The system will notify a product one it is restocked and
is able to complete the working process faster compared to others.

Overall duration
The overall time of the project is 119 days. The total time to complete the implementation
of the information system for the Natural Lee is 119 days and the activities are divided into
several activities that are included in project completion. This project has critical path method
that states that project can be completed only by completing those phase. Critical path method
included project includes step wise project management that include process planning and helps
in defining the critical as well as non-critical tasks for completing the project on time. All the
activities are to be followed while following the critical path of the project. In the above diagram,
the path that is shown in red is the critical path method. The activities in CPM method is to be
completed on time.

2. The owner associated with Natural Lee can provide more time for farming and as a result
he Phil will be able to produce more organic products in farming.
3. With the implementation of the information system, the company will be able to track all
payments as well as previous ordered products that the customers have ordered in the
organization.
4. The business working process will be complete faster and that will help to save the time
of operation.
5. All the payment dues from the customer end can be tracked in the project.
6. This implementation system will help to complete the project with customer satisfaction.
The customer satisfaction will be increase as there will be less waiting time.
7. The system will also help the customer to view all the products that are presently
available in the farm.
8. When the products are restocked, the customers will get notified with the help of the
information system in natural lee.
9. If the company starts fruit market, then this system will help to get more profit in the
business.

Assumptions and Interpretations
The assumptions that are taken for doing the cost benefit analysis for the project
undertaken includes that the discount % of the project is given as 8% for calculating the project.
Discount is given at the rate of 8 % in the project. The recurring cost if the project is considered
to be as 0 for all project and thus the project cost benefit analysis is shown in the calculation
above.
