Introduction
Talent management refers to the strategic approach that focuses over attracting,
developing, retaining and motivating employees in the workplace. This basically focuses
over managing each talent in the workplace so that objectives of the organisation could be
believed. Motivation is the other factor that holds great significance because it creates
inducement among employees that their efforts are quite important in the organisation. For
completing the investigation, Marks & Spencer is selected. It is a British multinational
retailer with headquarters located in London, England.

The main motive behind conducting the existing investigation is to carry out detailed
information about the concept of talent management and motivation within an
organisation for managing and organising talent in the workplace (Mensah and Bawole,
2018). Talent management and motivation are common trends that hold great importance
in an organisation as it is focuses on management of employees and they are the greatest
for every organisation irrespective of their nature (Cross Walker, 2020). With the help of
existing investigation, researcher tries to fulfil their two objectives which are: personal and
professional objective. In terms of personal perspective, researcher will try to increase
their knowledge in different areas. They will also learn about the different methods used
for the accumulation and evaluation of information. In respect of professional perspective,
researcher will learn about the various strategies of talent management that need to be
adopted by the organisation for satisfying and motivating employees in the workplace.

As per the perspective of Ahammad and et. al., (2018), talent management is an
instrument that attracts, retain and motivate the employees for achieving the business
goals and objective. The main role of talent management is to increase the performance
and efficiency of staff so that they can contribute productive output in accomplishing the
vision and mission of company. There are different areas of talent management such as
recruitment, performance management, compensation management and training and
development. Within an organisation motivation plays an important role. Motivation is a
procedure that provide guidance and maintain the goals oriented behaviour of people. In
order to achieve competitive advantage in market, it is important to motivate and engage
staff so that they can contribute their best efforts in improving the productivity and growth
of business. Motivation is important for an employee and organisation. There are mainly
two types of motivation such as intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.
What are the different types of motivation strategies adopted by Marks & Spencer for
retaining and encouraging talent in the workplace?
As per the opinion of Bonneton, Festing and Muratbekova‐Touron (2020), there
are different types of motivational strategies which are adopted by company in order to
retain and encourage their employees within workplace. These motivational strategies
helps in increasing the productivity of staff due to which they can give more productive
output in making business successful. The few motivational strategies which are adopted
by Marks and Spencer are reward system, career advancement, acknowledge employee
achievement, develop meaningful and respectful relationship and growing community of
learners. Through implementing these strategies, Marks and Spencer motivates their
employees and also encourage them to stay in company for long run. It is important for an
organisation to retain and encourage their staff in order to improve the performance and
growth of business.
What are the roles played by motivation strategies as one of the practices of talent
management for retaining employees within Marks & Spencer?
As per the viewpoint of Painter‐Morland and et. al., (2019), motivational strategies plays a
great role for retaining their top performers. It helps in boosting the confidence and morale
of employees due to which they contribute their better outcomes in improving the business

performance. By implementing motivational strategies, company can reduce the
absenteeism within workplace as it helps in engaging staff. Motivational strategies also
helps in reducing the turnover rate of staff which helps in increasing the productivity and
efficiency of employees. It is necessary for an organisation to adopt motivational
strategies as it helps in attracting more competent personnel and also improves the brand
image of business. Motivational strategies also helps in improving the work performance
due to which Marks and Spencer can gain competitive advantage form its competitors.
Thus these are the roles which are played by motivational strategies in order to retain their
talented employees within workplace. By retaining employees, company can improve the
corporate culture and also helps in providing better employee experience. Employee
retention is important within workplace as it maintains job performance and productivity.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Quantitative research method: The current investigation will take assistance of
quantitative research methods for the collection and evaluation of information in a
systematic manner (Rutberg and Bouikidis, 2018). The main benefit of using quantitative
research method is that it facilitates in collecting statistical piece of information and taking
out measurable & comparable data.
Data Collection: Researcher will take assistance of primary and secondary methods so
that raw as well as second-hand information can be collected about the proposed topic
(Basias and Pollalis, 2018). Questionnaire will be developed by investigator for collecting
raw data directly from the selected respondents. 40 managers will be selected by Marks &
Spencer as respondents because they can only give high quality information about the
practice of talent management and strategies of motivation within an organisation.
Primary method is selected because it assists in accumulating information directly from
the source of information. Secondary method will be chosen by researcher to collect
published piece of information. This helps in saving time of the investigator as it is
available on different platforms. The secondary sources include: books, journals,
newspapers, magazines etc.
Sampling: Probability sampling will be selected by investigator as it assists in selecting
large number of respondents and give equal chance to each respondent to participate.
Population of Marks & Spencer will be chosen to collect information. Hence, 40 managers
will be chosen by investigator to collect data.
Data Analysis: Researcher will select frequency distribution analysis because current
