INTRODUCTION
Motivation is the important thing which attracts people to work collectively and face the
competition in order to make profits. Every organisation should motivate its employees who
understand the needs of business and make efforts to complete them. If management are able to
motivate employees then it can lead to maintain high profits (Klein, 2019). There are different
sources to motivate the people as fill psychological, social, safety, security and self actualisation
needs which attracts them and encourages to complete the targets. This report is based on case
study of “Jack store” which has announced by Tesco organisation to opening a new discount
store which helps to face the competition against Aldi and Lidl. This report covers different type
of motivational theory which satisfy the Tesco management and increases organisational
productivity.
MAIN BODY
Motivation is consider as internal process which influences decision of employees who
are working in business organisation. This is important source of increasing organisational
productivity as well as profitability (Hur, 2018). In case of Jack store which is newly store using
different types of motivational theory to attracts its employees and increase the competition
against Aldi and Lidl who are also selling products at discounted price. To motivate the
employees different theories are used by organisation such as:
2. Theory of motivation
Maslow theory: This is well known theory of motivation which has given by Abraham
Maslow, who states people have five hierarchical needs that should be complete. Employees can
be motivated after completion of basic needs of people which starts from physiological needs
and ends on self actualisation (Maslow's theory of motivation, 2018). The description of such
theory is given below:

Physiological: This involves human survival needs such as air, food, shelter, warmth,
sleep, drink and cloth which motivate employees to work. The management of Jack store
understand the needs of their employees and provide them all survival services.
Safety: This involves safety which is required to work more effectively such as
protection, law, stability and security which make good to employees. Different laws are
followed by Jack store and job security also provided by such organisation which motivates
employees.
Love and belongingness: This involves friendship, love, intimacy, trust and acceptance
which can motivate Jack's employees and complete the assign task effectively (Bai and et. al.,
2018).
Esteem: After completing psychological, safety and love needs employees wants esteem
from organisation that consider dignity, achievement, mastery, reputation and desire.
Self actualisation: This is another need which is require by employees to compete with
others and work effectively. This involves realizing, self- fulfilment, personal growth and
experience which motivate employees to work more.

3. Herzberg theory motivation
This theory was given by Frederick Herzberg in 1959 who states two factor to motivate
the people by providing satisfaction. Description of two factor are as given:
Hygiene factor: It involves working condition, salary, security, company's policies,
relationship with colleagues which motivates employees. In the absence of these it become a
reason of employees dissatisfaction. Such needs are required to complete which can help Jack
store to avoid dissatisfaction (Gillison and et. al., 2019).
Motivational factor: This factor drives positive satisfaction that involves recognition,
growth and promotional opportunities, achievement, growth and responsibility which motivate
employees to work effectively and maintain good performance of business organisation. The
management of Jack is require to focus on such motivational factor which provide satisfaction
and increase organisational productivity.
4. Application of these theories for Jack stores like HR
As an HR of Jack Store which is announced by Tesco organisation states that
organisation of should adopt Maslow and Herzberg theory of motivation which can motivate
employees to work effectively and increase the organisational productivity. By applying Maslow
theory, management of organisation provides psychological needs, safety, security, love and
belongingness and esteem needs which motivate them and they work effectively. Moreover, self
actualisation increases motivation level and encourages them to increase the sale of business.
This theory helps to meet with basic needs for which employees get ready to work and tries to
give their best (Hiver and Papi, 2019).
On the other hand, by applying Herzberg motivation theory Jack which is competitive of
Aldi and Lidl increases production as well as profit level. In hygiene factor, HR of Jack store
make efforts to minimize the job dissatisfaction level by giving fair remuneration, building good
relationship and formulating easy policies and providing safety which helps to retain the
employees in organisation. Moreover, motivational factor helps Jack being part of Tesco
motivates employees by performance appraisal, growth and development in competitive business
environment which helps to maintain the good performance.
5. Advantages and disadvantages of motivational theory

Advantages: This helps to understand the needs of individual and motivate them by
completing needs that gives satisfaction to employees. It is relevant in all fields which is require
by individual and helps to retain the employees.
Disadvantages: This may be ineffective because all individual do not think same so their
needs are also different. In organisation there are cultural difference where this theory is not
suitable and reduces employees satisfaction (Bednarczuk, 2018).
Herzberg theory
Advantages: This mainly used to emphasis on motivation which ensures employees are
working in good environment and improving business activities. With the help of this employees
of Jack store feel motivated and work hard which helped to face the competition and increase
benefits. By using this management can focus on employees problem and maintain employee
friendly environment which reduces dissatisfaction (Bryson and White, 2019).
Disadvantages: This is not necessary that if employees are satisfied then organisational
productivity will be increase which make disappointment to management. This may be cause of
job satisfaction as some people likely to work in flexible working hours where as for some it
may be trouble. If employees are not motivated then they do not lead to work properly.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that motivation is important for business
organisation which motivate to work effectively in order to increase production and profit. Job
satisfaction helps to retain employees for long term. Maslow and Hergberg theory are consider as
motivational theory which is used by business organisation to influence people and get work
from them.
