INTRODUCTION
Team building in business plays an essential part for the glory of business as no business can run
solely without the support of team. It is the process of turning the group of individual into a
cohesive team. It helps them to improve the workplace and understands the work in a better
way. This report contains the types of various team and their importance in the company also
shows the characteristic of an effective team. This report also elaborates the nine Belbin roles
and shows the characteristics of different team members of an organisation. This report explains
why the conflicts in team is being arise and what are the ways to overcome from this issues.

In this competitive world the formation of team becomes very essential to attain the goal. A
single person does not have the ability to deliver the services requires by an organisation , so the
evolution of team become very important.
Types of teams and the purpose of the teams are
Virtual team
Virtual team is the team of individuals and the team is connected through the computer as
team is operating from different locations but they collaborate the things together. For example
one team of Asda is operating from west Yorkshire and another person is operating from
Manchester through the digital world and making the software for the company. This helps the
company to hire the best experts worldwide.
Operational team
This team ensures the smooth functioning of an organisation, it supports the other teams
to make sure that all the work of the offices goes smoothly.
Self managed teams
This team consist the employees of same company who will do their work together to
attain the common goals of an organisation without having any leader for the supervision. Every
member of the team is accountable for their assigned responsibility. As there is no leader so
every person has to take equal responsibility and they must be their own motivators and guides.

Permanent Team
These are the teams which are formed on the permanent basis,they are not dissolved by
accomplishing the task or by achieving the goal. Asda also have the permanent team which will
be remain throughout the year. Example of permanent team in Asda are Human resource team,
operational team, finance team etc.
Functional Team
It is also one of the permanent team in which manager of the particular department do the
the division of work and gives them the responsibility. Manager is accountable for the team as
everyone reports to him. As esda is in the retail industry so they are having the functional team.
In the functional team manager must be ensure that there will be no obstacles while transferring
the work from one department to other.
Special Purpose Team
Special purpose team is being formulated to accomplish particular event or any specific
project. Their main aim is to achieve the particular for being the team s formulated. Alda have to
make this team at the time of their corporate event where the special team is being made to make
event successful. This type of team is temporary in nature as it dissolves after the completion of
task.
Problem Solving team
Asda is a very big industry in the retail sector, this team is required in various times like
any development of new product or for any specific purpose. This type of team basically helps in
the company to climb up in the certain situations. This team is temporary in nature.
We are taking one more company which also deals in retail market situated in Holborn
London, United Kingdom it is the third largest company in supermarket having 16.9% share in
the supermarket. They also achieve this success by the help of their team as the team itself means
the people working together to achieve some common goal by working independently or as a
team. At the same time the leaders of the company rewards their team for their efficient and
focus work. This helps in to boost their morale and increase their productivity. Success of any
organisation does not held in the hands of single person it is the team work which make the
company to lead the world.

Effective team can provide the benefits to the ASDA as Relying on other people builds trust, and
teamwork establishes strong relationships with co-workers. Despite occasional disagreements, an
effective team enjoys working together and shares a strong bond. When the employees put the
trust in a co-worker, they are establishing the foundation of a relationship that can endure minor
conflicts.

The effective team can enhance the collaborative working, it can also provide more profitability
to ASDA group of organization. An effective team is very necessary for the attainment of goals
and make the business to run long for this the Asda has its characteristic to make the team
effective by using some techniques, the organisation always tries to make the working culture
free, flexible and comfortable

Characteristic of an effective team
Clear direction
Team leaders of Asda is having very clear direction towards the team about their goals
and it effectiveness. Many organisations just pull the employees but does not know how execute
the project and it will leads to confusion. Asda is having the clear direction towards their
member of groups.
Open communication
Communication is very essential to make the sense in between the members. It must be
proper communicated to the team members. Communication must be freely in between the team
members become comfortable in sharing their ideas. Directors and leaders of Asda knows that
communication is the major reason in modern business to manage the work easily.
Communication also includes the listening.
Defined roles
Roles must be defined to each and every person of the company and everyone must
understands the set skills and the styles of their thinking required for the team Asda must define

than the team of Asda must need the person who is detail oriented and methodical that will keep
the team on track, so it is important to have a good handle on roles before the staffing.

It is one of the main characteristic that every employee of an organisation strives for the
common objective. They must understands that team will succeed if they work with a common

these combination helps the company to achieve organisation goal and the importance of the
team members.
The Nine Belbin Team roles are :
Resource investigator
They are the persons who are very cheerful, extroverted person who have many contacts
within and outside the team. They are the enthusiastic, adventurous, and very open minded
person who always looks for the innovative ideas. This type of people sometimes become the
careless.
Implementer
They are the persons who helps the team to gel, they are organised person who identifies
their work and complete it on the behalf of team members. They might be little bit practical and
conservative at the same time they were cooperative and diplomatic but become conservative
when they don't know the usefulness of work. This helps the Asda to complete their work by the
efforts of team.
Plant

Asda is in the retail industries they always needs the creative people who have the
innovative ideas and have the surprising solution to all the obstacles. Sometimes their idea does
not seems practical and might misses the requirement other people required.
Monitor
This kind of people are very sensible so they always make sure for their work. They
always analyse the situation and wants the things to be very clear from the base. This people
helps the Asda in many ways as their decisions are rarely wrong.
Shaper
Asda definitely have this kind of employees as they ensure the team work and never
loose the momentum of work, they are the person who were always focused. They always make
sure of the deadlines and the goals. This type of employees helps the company to achieve their
goals effectively.
Coordinator
They are talents who always looks on the coordination of the team,they will look to the
procedures and help the team members to give them the summarised what their team needs. This
type of people are very essential to the Asda as they have the talent how to utilize the potential
and delegates the work accordingly.
Complete finisher
They haver the special sense when the things goes wrong,they have a so much of
attention and check the things in detail. They always believes in quality and runs in the safety.
The main concern for them is they become overprotective sometimes and did not delegate their
work easily. This type of people helps the Asda to complete the work on time with safety and
less chances of errors.
D2 Belbin team theory
Team worker
They are the most sensitive person of the team helps in creating the helpful, focused and
creative team and they knows how to do the work with togetherness. The companies who are big

need the team worker to motivate their members towards their goal. This theory helps the
organisations to work as a team so they can be more focused towards the work.
Specialist
As the term itself defined that they are the persons who have the complete knowledge in
their field and they posses the technical knowledge or skills. Specialist were always needed to
the organisation they helps the Asda in many ways like software engineer gives the specialised
knowledge in the field of digitalisation and it is very essential to these kind of companies.

Conflicts and the ways to overcome by the team
There are many reasons in the team from which the conflict is arise, they are inevitable but can
not be ignored by any organisation. At the same time Asda also faces this conflicts from their
team, they need to be conscious as there are any severe issues can be born so the supervisors
should be aware of that and resolve their issues as soon as possible.
Some of the reasons for conflicts in a team are :
Working Style
It varies from people to people and their behaviour, it is very common that every people
have different values towards their work and if this style is being not matched from each other,
this might be happened because of generational gap. difference in value is not the reason of
generational gap reason is not to accept those differences. This makes the workplace disputed as
the co-workers will insult each other for their characters and their values. Asda also faces this
differences among their employees. Company has to overcome from these grievances of
employees by assigning the work to everyone and at the same time everyone need to complete
their assignment.
Unhealthy Workplace
It is one of the major reason of the conflicts as some industries faces difficulties in these
competitive environment rather to give attention to the employees. Salary is the most important

issues in confliction of an employee with other and from the HR departments due to this they
create hostile environment and does not support the teamwork. To overcome from this issues
company has to emphasise to the incentives and rewards so the conflicts can be resolved by both
side.

Communication
As Asda is very big company so there will be a communication gap between the
employees and its management. Failing in communication leads the employees to make incorrect
assumptions for the management and it decreases the productivity and employee morale. Asda
can resolve this by doing the proper communication. As productivity will be affected by the
communication gap between the manager and employees, so the manager needs to communicate
proper to their team and resolves the conflicts and disputes by having open communication
between them.
Recommendation
The team can overcome the problems that team are facing by enhancing the communication.
They can engage in open communication which can also help in decision making.
Conclusion
From the above study it has been summarised that the organisation has to make the different
types of teams to achieve the desired goals smoothly, this report explains the different types of
