Technical assistance program through green infrastructure
The main cause of water pollution in town centers is through storm water runoff (Ewing et al.,
2011). Water can get filtered out and absorbed via plants and soil when the rain falls in
undeveloped places. Water however fails to be soaked onto the ground when the rain falls on the
parking zones, streets and roofs. In some urban places, storm water is drawn off by the system
of engineered collection and thrown into the water bodies. This water carries heavy metals,
bacteria, trash plus some waste from human activities coming from the landscape causing
pollution to the water bodies. When the flow of storm water is of higher speed, it can lead to
flooding and erosion in urban areas thereby destroying infrastructures, properties and habitat.
The City of Dallas uses green infrastructure by involving the use of natural process, vegetation,
and soil to control water and bring environments which are healthier (Zellner et al., 2016). Green
infrastructure according to the cities means the provision of flood protection, habitat, cleaner air
and water through the use of a patchwork of natural areas. The use of green infrastructure to
assist in controlling the storm water is also promoted by EPA. The commitment to the program
by EPA was renewed in April 2011 which gave the strategic plan to secure waters and many
living societies through green infrastructure. The plan finds it necessary for the EPA to promote
the technical assistance of using green infrastructure.
I agree with the program since it encourages building of high sustainable structures and practices
that increases the quality of air, preserving the water resources, securing public health and
securing the climate. It makes the city of Dallas to be among the cities in U.S which are
