Technical Communication
This report is based on analyzing what I am learning in this course. While using the
material that is being provided in the course, the report will mainly contain the three key
aspects or skills from the whole course of Technical Communication. In the context of every
chosen course, a discussion on the application of the aspects of learning from this course to
my own life and learning will take place.
Skills 1: Listening and Speaking
From the aspect 1, I am learning effective speaking and listening skills in the course
of COMM13729 The Art of Technical Communication (ATC). In this context, I am learning
how to improve language speaking and listening through reading and listening effectively and
efficiently. Throughout the course I am learning that, listening needs the fundamental skill of
concentrating attention on the speaker for being able to hear as well as understand what the
other person means speaker is saying (Browning & Cunningham, 2012). On the other hand,
learning from the course suggests that speaking skills need students taking turns, stay on
topic, speak confidently, and speak with clarity (Bodie, 2012).
Furthermore, to deepen my understanding of the aspect, I am attending all the in-class
activities and practical exercises conducted in order to improve my listening and speaking
skills. For instance, I have started reading good books and I usually talk with the people
having good communication skills as well as knowledge about technical communication
(EYR Team, 2018). I am also applying it to my existing knowledge and practice through
focusing my whole attention on the speakers in the daily life so that I can hear as well as
understand the key message of the speaker. I also try to take feedbacks from the people
around me so that I can practice what I have learned till date. I have realized that the new
knowledge, skills, based on ATC course influencing my perception, my conduct, and most
importantly my everyday performance in life (Bumann, Mary, & Sharon Younkin, 2012).
Based on skills and knowledge gained in the ATC course, it is clear that it is going
impact my work, career, as well as future studies positively. It is because communication
plays an important role in daily life. The course learning and studies, will allow me to have
productive conversations in future workplaces and academic workplaces as well. As we
know, good social interactions in the future will require me to listen deeply and carefully so

thereby develop comprehension of info taken in, to further demonstrate effective technical
and non-technical communication skills (Lumley, 2020). In this way, I am going to plan
about the remainder of course, and which will be useful throughout my career. My planning
regarding this aspect of module is as follows:
I am going to attend online value added courses for improving my listening and
speaking skills
I will participate in games and other activities based on communication skills
development
I will start reading good books, journals and papers which can nurture and cultivate
my communication skills.
Skills 2: Time Management
This aspect of the ATC course is making me learn about time-management skills. To
me, time management is a procedure of planning as well as exercising conscious control of
time spent upon particular activities, for further increasing efficiency, effectiveness, and most
importantly productivity. Currently, I am learning Prioritizing, Decision-making, Delegation,
Goal setting, Multitasking, Strategic thinking, Problem solving, Scheduling in relation to
time-management (Ministry Of Education, 2020).
To deepen your understanding of the aspect, I have observed my own time
management for several days. I have strated practicing good time management skills which
allows me to accomplish so many achievments in a shorter time. I found that, leraning time-
management in this ATC course gives me more free time, and hence I take advantage of
learning opportunities, for further lowering my daily stress (Petrovici, 2014).

knowledge. I belive that time management is the way to to do more in set time so that overall
productivity can further be enhanced for future career growth. The learning into this course is
going to affect career, work and studies considerbly. It is because time management is the
key to manage all the three simultanously while nothing gets compromised because of the
lack of time (Wabisabi Learning, 2020).
In the context of social interactions in the future, time management will play an
essentially important role because people don’t get time to spend with their friends, family
members and relatives while managing work, career and further studies. In such case, I will
be able to use my time-management skills and knowledge so that my social intercations and
presence will not be suffered due to less time or overload of work as well as studies. I found
that there are few things which can be improved further in relation to better time management
in future life. These improvement may include:

team-work skills is highly important in life from the different perspectives like career, school,
workplace and others. To me, teamwork is the collaborative effort of a team which consiste
of more than two people, for achieving a common goal in the most effective as well as
efficient way. I am realizing the importance of teamwork while learning the skills in the
course. In this context, teamwork environ always promotes an atmosphere which fosters
loyalty, collaboration and cooperation. It has been learned that such close-knit relationships
always motivate people in parallel and thereby align them to work harder, be supportive and
be cooperative of one another (Price, 2020).
While learning into this course, I am learning that individuals possess diverse talents,
weaknesses, strengths, communication skills, and habits, which ultimately allow them to
become a good team player. In order to excavate my understanding of the aspect, I am
reading and practicing regarding team harmony and coordination with my project team-
members. This course is allowing me to apply my existing knowledge to team-work skills
development, as good teamwork always provide success to all team members irrespective of
the individual efforts. I have been a very good team player as working in a team was always
great for me. I am still applying my existing team-working skills to current scenario to excel
at the activities and practice in the course on teamwork. I found that my perceptions and
performance as a team player has been improved a lot after learning into the course. It
indicates that proper team environment allows individuals to brainstorm collectively, which
ultimately increases their success to problem solve and arrive at solutions more efficiently
and effectively. In addition to that, from the workplace perspective, team-work is essential
because sharing diverse experiences and different opinions strengthens overall accountability
which further help making effective decisions quicker as compared to when done alone
(Price, 2020).
In this way, due to effective decisions, and better team-working skills, the course
learning will affect work, career, and studies in an efficient way. It is because team work
increases overall output by having feedback as well as multiple sets of skills come into play
to support team work (EYR Team, 2018). Therefore, my personal plan to hone the skill
