Working with Technology
Week 1
Technology is continuously changing the way people live, work and enjoy all around the
world. In addition to that, technology has also changed the way businesses communicate in
this world. Moreover, modern technology has changed the way individuals utilized to
communicate within their workplaces (Schultz, 2009). For example, different social
networking sites, the arrival of smartphones, chat apps have considerably brought
communication to the next level. It is clear that technology has changed over time because,
with the help of advanced technologies, we no longer require to be available at
our workplace every time. Apart from this, the potential opportunities which are for
innovation within Australia are as follows:
Evolving the way business communicates
Creating business operations more productive
Improving cost management
Offering customizing options through technology
Addressing sustainability-related goals and requirements
Minimizing the risks of a data security breach
Activating remote working (Tiwana & Konsynski, 2010).
Enhancing the efficiency of the Australian employees
Bringing AI into solving societal issues like poverty, education, and health
Week 2
Digital disruption (DD) is the change which takes place while new digital technologies, as
well as business models, impact the value proposition of current products and services.
Besides, DD can be seen as a transformation which is caused by emerging digital
technologies. Here, the term ‘disruption’ has been used, because the emergence of new digital
businesses or products majorly disrupts the existing market and hence generates the need for
re-evaluation (Tiwana & Konsynski, 2010).

Information systems (IS) are sociotechnical, formal, organizational systems which are
designed for collecting, processing, storing, and distributing info. Majorly, IS are containing
four components: people, task, structure, and technologies (Vacca, 2012).
Week 3
When there are so many positive aspects of the internet, cloud, apps, gaming, as well as
robotics at the same time some challenges, are attached as follows:
Increasing internet speeds is often useful when working in big organizations, software
firms, and troubleshooting companies, however, the challenge is that if everyone will
increase internet speed then useful work will hinder and people will surf the internet
for free (Vacca, 2012).
Cloud, apps, and gaming, all are internet based operations which cannot be performed
without strong internet connections. Challenge is that apps and cloud technologies are
having the risks of data and security breach while online gaming consumes
unnecessary internet data.
Robotics is getting utilized in many areas like medical, society serving, education,
teaching and many more. The challenge is that robotics learning needs to be
widespread by spreading technology literacy. Reliability is also another challenge
with robotics technology (Dickson, 2017).
Week 4
Augmented reality uses are in the fields of military, medical surgeries, commercial
and educational applications. The challenges are security, privacy issues and the
possibility of physical harm (Clickatell, 2017).
Virtual reality use is to stimulate human senses together for creating the illusion of
reality. The challenges of using VR technology are technology fragmentation, user
experience issues, and lack of familiarity.
Holograms are used for creating images of people objects, animals, for example,
credit cards, and construction and drivers licenses use holograms. Challenge is
creating a real-time 3D holographic display.

Internet of things and blockchain is used in home and building automation, solving
real-time social problems. Challenges: risks of digital burglary, data breach, and
malware ingestion (Vacca, 2012).
Week 5
Digital communication technologies (DCTs) are the ways of using electronic tools in order to
store as well as process data. For example, apps, social media, and online games come under
DCT. Benefits of DCT are used to send MMS, SMS, Email to anyone from anywhere to
anywhere. DCT also allows one to access the internet, social media, music storage, Icloud,
Face time and ITune applications. Disadvantages of DCT are high power consumption,
sampling error, complex circuits, and need for enhanced bandwidth (Vacca, 2012). The
business communicators should use the following structure for sending an email:
1. subject line
2. salutation
3. body text
4. signature
Week 6
In this context, social media like Facebook messenger, Skype, Face time, Google duo are
very useful for virtual meeting management. Virtual meeting management is necessary in this
technology enabled world as it saves a lot of time and hence makes business operations
efficient for organizations. Some key points to be considered by the businesses for social
media writing are:
Keep it simple and short
Use casual voice
Do not use abusive words or tone
Never get personal while commenting on posts
VoIP is the technology which can convert one’s voice into digital signals, while allowing
them to make a call directly through a laptop, computer, a VoIP phone, or any other data-
driven device. Besides, issues in moving meetings from face-to-face to digital are:
Internet connectivity

Technology literacy
A limited number of people can be connected over digital meetings (Tiwana &
Konsynski, 2010).
Week 7
Cyber Security is all about the protection of data and information which is stored online; at
the same time, cyber privacy is related to the safeguarding of customer’s identity. In addition
to that cybersecurity can be referred to as the protection against the unlicensed access of info
and data. The actions that can be taken to be more cyber secure are as follows:
Personal level: by using personal security frameworks such as cloud security, data
security and application security in the context of mobile security, one can be cyber
secured.
Company level: measures of ensuring cyber security and privacy can be network
security, identity management, cloud security, and database as well as infrastructure
security (Liu et al., 2018).
In the context of notifiable data breach scheme, Govt. has released some strict rules and
regulations about the announcement of the data breach right after the breach or hacking event
(Australian Government, 2018). It is because; sending message to all of the customers or
users whose data has been breached may allow them to take safety and preventive measures.
In addition to that, personal data is so valuable that it needs to be protected largely (Bogle,
2018). To avoid any kind of identity theft and identity fraud personal data must be protected
by the firms and individuals.
Week 8
Social and environmental impacts of technology are increasing day-by-day as the use of
technology is increasing in this era. Social impacts of technology are having both positive
and negative aspects. Positive aspects of technology for the society may include ease of work,
leisure, hi-tech world, time conservation, and high efficiency, less traveling and high output.
Negative aspects of technology on society including less collaborative societal people,
isolated societies and less physical work causes health issues. Environmental impacts of
technology are majorly having negative impacts like global warming, greenhouse effect,
pollution, increased heat and weather issues (Watson et al., 2010).

In the context of the digital divide, the gulf amid those who are accessing computers and the
Internet, and the people who do not is termed as the digital divide. It is a critical problem for
those people who are on the other side of the digital divide because in future technology will
have power on each and everything. Technology is having unintended consequences like
health issues, less physical work, dependency, and environmental pollution (Watson et al.,
2010). In addition, technology will definitely impact human dignity and dignity of work as it
will have superiority over human work and hence workplaces command will be in hand of
technologically literate people.
Week 9
Here, open data is info which is available to the whole public to be used, irrespective of the
intended purposes. On the other hand, big data are those datasets which are available over a
huge scale; in a way that they cannot generally be handled through the common software.
Sources of open data are Governments, independent organizations, as well as data agencies.
Sources of big data are IoT, commercial transactions, E-commerce, medical records, and
social networks (Schultz, 2009).
Week 10
Business Intelligence is the technology which is utilized for gathering, storing, accessing and
analyzing data in order to help business users while making effective decisions,
whereas, Artificial Intelligence is a way to integrate human-mind with a computer, or which
can create a computer-controlled robot which thinks intelligently like human beings.
Different businesses use big data for their operations to take efficient and effective decisions
in favor of organizational growth and success (Dickson, 2017). For example, big data can be
used for monitoring, surveillance, integration of available data as well as forecasting by
modern businesses. Besides, the potential for bias is the intentional or unintentional favoring
of one group over other potential groups in the population for some intended purpose
(Clickatell, 2017).
Week 11
User experience a different kind of service in e-commerce as it saves their time, fuel, energy
while offering more alternatives for any kind of product and services (Welsh, 2018). The

biggest difference between e-commerce and traditional bricks and mortar stores is that e-
commerce functions online or digitally whereas mortar stores function totally offline or
physically. User experience varies between the above two in the following manner:
Users do not need to visit locations for shopping
Users’ attention or we can say that personalized experiences
Operating expenses for the users
Offers and discounts
Payment or transaction modes (Welsh, 2018).
Apart from this, with the increasing utilization of modern technologies in business,
technology will definitely change the user experience positively. For example, augmented
reality, virtual reality, data analytics, machine learning, and deep learning technologies will
aid better and personalized user experiences online through e-commerce and other digital
platforms (Clickatell, 2017). In this way, it can be easily said that future technologies will
change the millennial users’ experience for good with the help of easy and high-efficient
technological ways.
