INTRODUCTION
Paying attention on the career viewpoint of the graduate is very necessary for the
students as it enables them to learn in relation with different professions which are uniform
with the current experience and abilities. Thus, it is important on the part of the graduates to
do preparation for the evolution of their career as well as development of capabilities for
taking wider decisions (Burton, 2017). Pertaining to this, the present research work aims to
focus on the telecommunication industry as it am very interested to consider my career in this
area. The report will throw light on the general trends impacting the telecommunication
industry and the skills and knowledge being needed through carrying out both primary as
well as secondary research. The final part of the report will focus on evaluation which will
involve job advertisement and reason of choosing this industry.
GENERAL TRENDS IMPACTING THE TELECOMMUNICATION
INDUSTRY
Evidence from the secondary research
Focusing in relation with the telecommunication industry, it is being developing ever
since the science along with the technology have been evolving. There are several looming
issues being faced by the telecom sector in terms of optimization of the infrastructure,
network load and successfully addressing the grievances of the subscribers to decrease churn
and enhance the security for telecommunications (2022 telecom industry outlook, 2022). For
the purpose of making improvement in the overall efficiency of the telecom organizations, it
is vital to address the trends in the telecommunication industry. Some of the important trends
in the telecom industry being identified are as follows:
Globalization – Because of the increase in the global connectivity with further
ignition from the pandemic Covid19, there are different opportunities being presented
in front of the telecommunication industry for reaching more and more subscribers
and providing innovative goods and services (Bell, 2021). Furthermore, for the
purpose of addressing the demands of the growing number of inter-linked people and
things, there is a requirement on the part of industrial workplace to have affordable
and effective technology solutions.
Technology – As defined by Todor (2016), development in the technologies is defined
as the most crucial aspect which influences the telecommunication and other
industries commendably. Nevertheless, for succeeding in the market, technologies
need to be updates and evaluated in a regular period of time. There has been

continuous development in connectivity technologies both in terms of wired as well as
wireless communications. The evolution of the communication technology is quite
critical in the current information technology environment with augmenting the
information volumes, people utilizing internet and IOT devices (Kaczor and
Kryvinska, 2015). There has been augmented use of satellite communication these
days which are making an important contribution in the emerging telecom trends.
5G Network & Technology – The upcoming big trend in the telecommunication
industry is 5G network and devices. It offers quite higher pace as compared to the
other cellular broadband network standards and significantly it has lower amount of
latency which is considered as an essential element for cloud gaming and virtual
reality content streaming (Simpson and Sturges, 2019).
Evidence from the primary research
In regards with the primary research study, it was being conducted with the module
lecturer along with the business executive related with the field of telecommunication
through interview. Open ended questions were being asked to them. After evaluating the
responses of the participants, it was explored that with the rising level of globalization, there
has been increased in the pace of evolution of technology. This increased pace is influencing
the operations and functioning of the companies related to the telecommunication industries.
The Module lecturer and course leader at the University of Cambridge, Helen Dargie stated
that internet of things along with the sensors are impacting most of the industries of the
technology economy. The rising utilization of internet is in turn enhancing the life of the
people and allowing the organizations to augment their profit margins and makes
improvement in the management. In addition to this, the Evan Kirstel the top B2B analyst
and influencer responded that internet of things is quite important for the governments who
are seeking for reducing their expenditures related to information technology. Other than this,
inter-connection amid the sensors, infrastructure, devices and calculating components are
further allowing the novel manners for the management. For illustration, predictive
maintenance, conditions dependent checking and evaluation and decentralized operations are
making sure efficient communications amid the internet of things devices. He further stated
that in this manner, the internet of things is helping in automation of the manufacturing
procedures and is allowing the execution of industry 4.0 concepts in the telecommunication

THE REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
There are certainly different important skills which are required from the graduate to
possess when planning their career in the field of telecom industry as per Hamzah and
Abdullah (2019) and the most important is the generic skills. It includes transferable skills
which is being needed by the professionals in varied fields like communication, working in
teams, leadership and listening skills (Gardiner, 2018). According to him, these are crucial
skills and abilities to be possessed by graduate as with these skills in place, they will become
more anticipated individual or candidate for the employers. In addition to this, from the
primary research being done it has also been determined that there are certain different skills
as well which is important for the graduate pursuing or planning to pursue their career in the
field of telecommunication industry and these are elaborated in the subsequent section:
Knowledge of Technology – This is being regarded as the most crucial thing for
pursuing a career in the field of technology. With the advancement of technology and
rising level of globalization, there is a requirement on the part of the graduates to have
knowledge and understanding of different advanced technologies and related skills.
One such significant skills is related with cloud computing as most of the information
being utilized in the telecom sector are stored in the cloud automatically and thus,
skilled individuals are required to continue to be highly desired candidate by the
companies in the near future. For mastering in the telecommunication industry, cloud
computing is the most desirable skill.
Soft skills – Other than this, inter-personal communication skill is also necessary an
expected skill in the telecommunication industry. Soft skills such as communication,
inter-personal, time management, listening and empathy are mandatory for attaining
an edge over the other firms operating in the market.
Programming – For growing career in this field, the graduates are required to have
knowledge related to telecommunication domains such as data and networking,
onePK API, NSX and other specified software.

help me in my future career path because it is demanding different skills and abilities which
is the need of an hour such as innovative technologies, soft skills etc. however, with the

future (Molnár and et.al, 2017).
CONCLUSION
Thus, it can be concluded that the decision taken for choosing the telecommunication
industry as the desired industry was quite suitable. The report has clearly identified some of
the important trends impacting the telecommunication industry. However, the most important
among them was technology. This is because of the fact that there has been continuous
development in connectivity technologies both in terms of wired as well as wireless
communications and for attaining competitive advantage, this is more crucial element.
