1. Introduction:
The Aboriginal and the Torres Strait islanders are the natives of Australia. There are a
lot of such indigenous people in the Torres Starlit, islands etc. The people who are living
there are the actual inhabitants of Australia. There have been a lot of struggle and hardships
that the natives of Australia had to survive and manage their own livelihood throughout
several ages. They had to deal with the nature as well as outer atrocities of life. They had
problems blending into the society as well as faced humiliation from it. They were also
humiliated by the outer society. Therefore their numbers have been marginalised and also
were looked down upon. Even though the present scenario is somewhat different, this has
provided them a lot of favours and a lot of help. This has helped them in living their lives
successfully and sustainably. There are a lot of the NGO’s and NSW Department of
Community Services which are working in favour of developing the lives of the community
of the Aboriginals and the Torres Strait Islanders. According to the United Nations
Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues there are more than 370 million indigenous people
existing over 70 countries all around the world. The holding and the preservation of the
community as well as serving for the welfare of its people is a very important factor that
needs to be analysed and also needs to be understood by the local government and the
citizens of the country. As the people belonging from the community carries the knowledge
to unique languages, various systems of life and also developed mode of understanding. The
Aboriginal cultures as well as that of the Torres Strait Islanders are very unique and also
different. They have their own unique histories and beliefs and values therefore conserving
their culture are very important, hence the action of the local NGO’s and the welfare
organizations are impactful and much needed for their safety and sustenance. The case study

provided deals with a situation that the research scholar has to deal with for the handling of
the situation in the case study.
2. Analysis/discussion of culturally respectful and sensitive social work
practice for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people
The case study is related to the service of the Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islanders by
a Local (Not-for-profit/ non –Government) Organisation. There have been several Welfare
Organizations that are working for the sustenance of the indigenous people of Australia.
Therefore the organizations are looking forward for creating and granting better scope for the
livelihood for the natives of the o that they can have better chances in leading their lives
successfully. There are also various services that are generated for the Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islanders from the government and the NGO’s as well. The organizations have to
follow through some specific guidelines while providing services for the Aboriginals and the
Torres Strait Islanders. The natives may have to be show or identify themselves to the NGO
for receiving special indigenous services and the programs, such as-
Grants (availing of any type of grants like the home loans, study or schooling loans
etc.),
Scholarship for studies under several industries (having specific positions for the
indigenous students),
Assistance regarding the maintenance of houses (specific indigenous positions),
Various schooling and teaching programs for the indigenous students.
It is already made clear and put to action that the indigenous people who are applying for
some help or the people whom the NGO are providing aids and help with, must be allowed to
