environment for its permanent and part-time employees to prevent them
from any harm or injury in the workplace. It is a shared belief in the

Responsibilities of the employer
Be aware of and make the employees of any safety threat involved in
the work.
Provide employees with required and effective safety and protective
gear.
Ensure and provide proper training, induction to the employees
depending on their roles (Efe, and Kurt, 2019).
Take reasonable precautions when planning and devising any
architecture.
Ensure competent supervision and monitoring of the work by efficient
staff who are knowledge about the construction business (Vitharana et
al. 2015).
Conduct a thorough investigation of any mishap or accidents and
remedial measures are taken in accordance.
The staff and employees have easy communication channels through
which they can report any accident, call for help or any urgent
information.
Responsibilities of the supervisor
Be aware, alert and informed about the proceedings on a site.

Be able to report the locations of a given employee
Have active communication channels with employees through closed
communication channels (Ju et al. 2018).
Actively enforce all the OH&S policies requirements on the workers
and quickly report any delinquents.
Ensure that the workers are aware of the potential safety hazards
about the work they are required to do (Sanchez et al. 2017).
Ensure all the safety gears are worn by the employees and safety
checks are conducted properly.
Report any damaged equipment, any need for special protection felt
on the site.
Immediately report any accidents or mishaps occurred on-site to the
superiors (Marhani et al. 2018).
Promptly provide an accident or mishap report to the employer with
an accurate representation of facts.
Responsibilities of the employee
Ensure that the safety checks have been conducted and protective
gears are in place.
Comply with the OH&S policies of the organization and immediately
report others.
Report any damaged equipment or the lack of it thereof to the
supervisor (Sousa et al. 2015).
Be accountable for their own as well as their peer’s safety.
The mechanism for all staff to report damaged equipment when it is
identified
The maintenance and record of damaged equipment are especially
necessary for a construction business because of the nature of work. As a
result of the OH&S policy document easy channels and pathways of
communication that can record any report of damaged equipment and need
for further protection (Ganah and John, 2015). This is necessary as the staff

members who are actively involved with the machines are likely to be more
aware of their present working condition than the supervisor who merely
runs timely checks at regular intervals. The mentioned mechanism can be
used by the staff for reporting any damaged equipment that may pose a
safety threat.
Identify the faulty equipment and run checks by at least three staff
members about the correct functioning of the machine.
Reach out to the immediate head of the equipment supervisor for
reporting.
Ensure that the said equipment is removed for conducting checks. If
not then report to the health safety manager as well as the on-site
engineer through an email.
Any report of damaged equipment ultimately reaches the on-site engineer
who calls upon relevant technician from the company of manufacture to test
that the machine if necessary. On other cases, reports from three staff
members and one supervisor can declare equipment unfit for use (Zhao et
al. 2015). It would be removed from the working area and stored in the
inventory until it can be replaced, repaired or disposed of. It is necessary to
identify the equipment and keep it separate from the other equipment that
fit for use (Zungu, and Mlangeni, 2017).
• Initial, regular and ongoing OH&S training
There are a general expectation and responsibilities from the organization
that they maintain an ethical and safe work environment where the
employees are allowed to work and grow in exchange for remuneration.
Other than the employer the employees are also responsible for their own
safety and to maintain their immediate environment (Karakhan and
Gambatese, 2017). OH&S training is requisite as it allows the employees to
discover their skills, enhance their productivity and become reinforce their
work practices. Investing in training the employees is also beneficial for the
organization as the staff will provide a better quality of work and increased
productivity.
