INTRODUCTION
In the current scenario, different change management tools are adopted by different
business organisations to cope up and deal with challenges that prevail in an organisation. A
developing manager is a designation that deals with crafting and developing skills and
knowledge of their employees which help them to grow in business and achieve personal and
professional goals as well as objectives effectively. This report has compared two organisations
where one is Thomas Cook and the other is TUI(Abrahamsson, 2017). Both the organisations
have different types of management systems that focus on increasing their standard and services
for meetings customer's demand as well as satisfying employees of their organisation. . Further,
this report has defined management skills and analysed their potential through SWOT analysis
for Clayton Crown Hotel, London which is considered as a renowned brand of Dalata Hotel
Group.
TASK 1
1.1 Different management styles
In the present scenario, tourism industry is developing at a fast pace and for some time,
now they are adding more revenue to GDP of United Kingdom. . This report includes Frankie &
Benny's restaurant which is about to start in Stanford, London(Aulton and Taylor, 2017). Role of
manager in achievement of targeted goals and objectives is also discussed here along with
justification of management role in achievement of desired target and certain recommendations
are given for improving the business as well. Thomas Cook and TUI are known for delivering
better, faster and efficient products. They are successful in tourism business because they have
adopted better management style and made strategies accordingly. Different management styles
are discussed here as below:
Coercive management style – This is regarded as direct leadership style in this leaders
gives command or direct their employees. They have overall control and responsibility of all
factors and decision making(Allen, 2012). So, all the power of strategic and operational
management lies in leader’s hand. TUI Tourism Company follows this kind of leadership or
management style for running their business. This style of management bounds employees as
they are not expressive in their work.

Active style of management This management style is more effective. It allows
employees required freedoms as well as to express their thoughts. Employees are well supported
on their professional which includes enhancing their skill and knowledge and on individual level
also motivation or monitory help. Thomas Cook and Sons Company follows this type of
management style to sustain in competitive market(Arnold and Boggs, 2015). He believe that
giving values to their employee help in generating a trustworthy environment hence help in
prosperity of an organisation. Managers also organise certain seminars, gives motivation
speeches which will positively influence an employee to work and achieve their goals.
1.2 Different characteristics of leadership
Thomas Cook and Sons company is very old and the biggest organisation in travel
industry. Managers of this organisation keep their staffs motivated and target oriented. A
manager must possess different qualities in management of tourism industry. These qualities are
like:
Friendly behaviour – Being a junior consultant, I can suggest top level managers to
behave and their employees like friends, this will give values to each individual hence helps in
building a strong relationship among them, this helps in creating a positive and healthy
environment inside the organisational culture(Babbie, 2013). This will also allow their
employees to express their thoughts and problems which helps the managers to analyse every
aspect and take suitable decisions.
Communication skills – This is another important skill that a manager must possess. An
effective communication skill helps a manager to transfer information with suitable
communication medium. In dealing with all employees, a manager must be calm and composed
which help them to influence their employees.
Motivation – As a consulting person, I can suggest management to timely motivate and
influence their employees so that they will remain target oriented and hence, will improve their
morale and performance.
Focussed and disciplined – Management of discipline in an organisation helps in getting
competitive advantage in . Discipline allows an organisation to maintain their structured
framework as well as provide resonance and coordination between them.

Communication is a key aspect of a travel and tourism industry. An effective
communication helps in maintaining flow of services inside the enterprise. A quick and effective
communication allows an organisation to plan better for their future ventures. Communication
between different levels of organisation (Bianchi, 2011). This will provide better interaction in
between their staffs which help them in better management of customer’s needs and wants as
well as provide better assistance to them. Thomas Cook and Sons Company have a different
team for employees and customer’s assistance where complaints are recorded and problems are
sorted out. Both; Thomas Cook and TUI have different ways of communication and purposes of
information sharing. Different ways of communication are described as below:
Downward communication – In this type of communication system, communication
flows from higher to lower authority. Information or messages are transferred contains orders,
policies, instructions for their employees using mediums like notice board, verbal, emails or
formal meetings between top level management and employees.
Upward communication – This is totally opposite from downward communication.
workers are used to communicate with their senior managers as per the requirements. employees
submit their daily reports or other facts to top level management. In Thomas Cook and Sons
Company, staff’s suggestions are welcomed in organisation

Horizontal information – This is the transfer of information in between different
departments of organisation. There are certain cases where team members of one department
have to interact with members of other departments(Cavanagh, 2012). This makes an
environment very friendly.
1.4 Analysis of organisational culture and change in the organisation
For a successful organisation organisation plays a significant role which plays avital role
in motivating their employees. Organisational culture have different elements which includes
norms, vision, values, language, belief and mindset which Thomas Cook and company considers
in their organisation. Thomas Cook and company try to implement effective culture for making
a better working environment, this includes coordination between team members, better
interaction, and effectual transfer of information. In Thomas Cook and company apart from work
there are several factors in working environment which help in increasing bonding like cultural
events, sports activities or certain tours and holiday packages. For achieving core competence in
business environment they use strategies which are mentioned below
Hierarchical organisation culture It is beneficial for Thomas Cook and company it defines an
organised working environment. A organisation like Thomas Cook have a very large working
people hence will benefit the organisation. It helps in solving out issues in an better way and
provides a positive environment in organisation. In this senior management has a role for a team
and manage their employees(Cummings, 2014). It helps division of goals into smaller targets.
Clan organisational culture- This is an important element of culture in Thomas Cook and
company inn dealing with hospitality and services sector as it helps in monitoring large work
force because employee can communicate with each other effectively hence makes a familiar
environment in working place. This helps in building and maintain a efficient team.

2.1 Management skills performances and assessments
A manager have various quality and skills what are essential management of whole
working group and manage business operations. I being a manager have to perform significant
role and perform several responsibilities and duties in Clayton Crown Hotel London. I must have
to maintain relationship between employees to enhance their performances for getting

organisational targets (David, 2011). There are certain skill required for management of Clayton
Crown Hotel.
Proper communication- This is a important factor of successful business organisation. I must
focus on making information system in the organisation effective which helps in sharing ideas,
and viewpoints in Clay Crown Hotel. A strong information will help in removing barriers which
affect coordination between different people and departments. Must also focus on enhancing
skills like learning new languages which will remove different linguistic barriers and diverse the
capability of people.
Decision making ability – It is about handling different situations which helps in sustaining and
surviving in business environment. This will enhance skills of a manager to take right decision at
right time. A manager must be responsible for taking a right decision so that it will be benefit
both organisation and employees
Problem solving skills – A manager must be able to solve problem which erupt in the
organisations it can be along term or short term. I as a Manager must ensure that hotel have a
smooth working culture. I must be able to provide multiple solutions for my given task. There
are several problem in and outside organisation so I must acknowledge them the best way
Leadership skills It is also an important factor. A leader must be able to motivate their
employees and create a positive environment. I have a very important quality to influence and
convince people and have a leadership style which is required in an hotel organisation.

There are competition from certain small industries so they have to be on their mark I
doing so.
External factors including change in government policies are major threats of any
organisation.
There are threat from certain small scale business which provides cheaper
accommodations they may hamper the business.
2.3 development of own potential by setting targets
Organisation have different objectives and priorities and make strategies according to it.
Clay Crown Hotel must also set some targets and objectives. As a manager of Clay Crown Hotel
it is important to analyse various factors which are available in market by using my skills and
abilities(Griffin 2013). I must able to improve my theoretical knowledge as well as able to
enhance my practical ability. In coming days , must target to increase business and brand value
of hotel in all over the world.
Can able to remove my weakness but make sure that I must not be tensed about my job so
personally , must try to focus on some stress relief activities like exercises, yoga, self control.
This will help me to gain competitive advantage in organisation structure.
For my own development I must assure that must be able to understand prospects of other
people like top level management and bottom level management and understand how the
organisation is maintaining balance between them. Be able to understand the management
system and provide innovative ideas.
TASK 3
3.1 Leading and motivating team for achieving goals or objectives
According to case study, I as a manager will perform several relevant task for
management of workforce of Frankie & Benny's restaurant. For achieving targetted goals. I can
plan strategies in relevant to so situations(Jones and Jones, 2013). Be also focus on customers

satisfaction by giving positive responses to their suggestions and feedbacks and will use several
objectives like :
Team building – the major factor of achieving success is having a better and efficient
team. A team when goal oriented helps in better management for all internal and external factors
in organisation. Having a strong team can be build by analysis of working capabilities, abilities
efficiencies, mindset and knowledge which helps in assigning skills to them.
Motivations – It boost moral of employees and influence them to complete their task
effectively. I must be able to provide required support to employee which help then tom sustain
in competitive environment. I must understand responsibilities to understand the potential of
employees which helps in assigning appropriate jobs to employees.
3.2 Justification of managerial decisions and recommendations for improvement in achieving
goals.
Frankie & Benny's restaurant manager need to support and motivate their employee. A
manager must understand that different people need different motivation so he must choose
motivation theories which will help their employees. These motivations must make sure there in
a growth of potential of their employees which will ultimately helps in growth of restaurant.
Goals and objectives are only possible by creating a positive environment in an organisation, a
healthy environment will help in accepting collective work of their employee which enhance
capability of employee(Leach-Kemon, 2011).
Recommendations– Employees time to time must take trainings to enhance their skills and
must be able to keep pace with changing environment e.g. in food industry there is a change in
food habits of people so they must be upgraded with new food items. In sectors of food, tour and
travels and hospitality industry communication is an important elements. Managers must make
effective plans ans policies for welfare of employees by treating them equally. Regarding any
industry it must be make sure that the prospect of business is not making profit but instead
maintaining ethical values in business activity is also an important prospect.

4.1 Support of managerial and personal skills in developing careers
Being a manager of Clay Crown Hotel I must enhance my professional and personal
skills. Clay Crown Hotel provides ample opportunities and career objectives for every person.

Time management – Time is a very important aspect of organisation. For organising
different things of an organisation time plays an very crucial role for development factors every
aspect must be given adequate time to manage different works in an organisation. This industry
is a fast paced industry where time plays a very major role e.g. in Spring Summers United
Kingdom becomes a very charming place for tourists. Many people from round the world want
to see melting of ice, blossom flowers and some heritage sites having endangered species. So it
becomes a holiday destinations here as a managers they must target these customers, by proper
management of time they can target more and more customers this will help them in enhancing
business(Allen, 2012).
4.2 Review of career and personal development, performance to produce development plan
I am having different skills and capabilities of managing my business but am not satisfied
with my management skills personally. Sometimes feel my employees takes advantage of my
lenient management behaviours and other autocratic leaders take advantages by their dominant
behaviour(Arnold, 2015). Must not be rude but have but make sure that, have some dominant
ability to make my work done it means for getting higher position in an organisation I must have
collaboration of strictness and lenient, to be a successful managers focus must be on learning
from my seniors like the way they tackle the crunch situations this will help me to develop future
plans for myself. Some of the factors I must consider to develop in future
improve my analytical skills so that I can implement it business structure.

From the above assignment wee have concluded that developing manager is integral part
of any organisation. This manager plays an important role in organisation culture by performing
various task in internal environment like, directing, planning, controlling, implementing of
business organisation. Through this report we have effectively discussed management styles of
Thomas Cook and TUI like active and coercive management. This report define certain skills
like individual strength and weakness Clay Clown Hotel. It defines certain ways to of leading
and motivating employees in Frankie & Benny's restaurant which helps in achieving objectives
