INTRODUCTION
In this part of research learner is going to understand the significance of employees
learning at workplace and its necessity in improving company performance. Thus, this section is
covering aims or objectives of project as well as essential question on which entire proposal is
based. However, report is highlighting case study of London and methods used by south eastern
railway to improve the knowledge of employees in order to enhance the company performance.
1.1 Rationale research
Employees are consider as indispensable asset for company because all the activities or
business operations are handle or managed by workers only. Thus, due to their eminent roles and
responsibilities managers of an enterprise is focussing on improving their knowledge in order to
attain goals of south-eastern railway of London. However, their main objective is to serve
consumer with best qualitative products with the help of modern technology and innovative ideas
of various employees. Hence, it has been assessed that it is indispensable to pay full attention on
workers improvement because they are seen as fixed asset for overall organization.
1.2 Background of research
London is a very beautiful city which is mainly famous for its marvellous nature, place
and environment. Thus, south-eastern railway is involving in serving consumers with best
facilities for travelling within the city as well as outside. In fact, it is not easy to manage all these
activities in a better way because of its complexity or high level of obligation requires at
workplace. Therefore, it is indispensable to encourage employees towards their personal or
professional goals to attain their organizational goals in a defined time period. However, it has
been understood that improvement in employees knowledge or learning is mandatory for south-
eastern railway because various complex activities are handled by them only. Therefore, they
need to conduct various programmes for enhancing the overall personality of workers in order to
enforce them towards success as well as company development. It means, entire research is
based on highlighting significance of employees changes at workstation as well as their benefit
for organization.

LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Requirement of employees learning at workplace
South Eastern Railway(SER) was a railway company in England from 1839 until 1922.
The company was established to construct route from London to Dover. Railway lines were later
opened to Tunbridge Wells, Canterbury, Hastings and other places in Kent. SER shares its
operation with London, Chatham and Dover Railway(LCDR) in 1899 and marketed with the
name as South Eastern and Chatham Railway. But this was not a full amalgamation of these two
companies. They both remain separated and latter they become constituents of Southern Railway
on 1 January 1923.
As per viewpoint of ….....South- Eastern is one of the busiest rail company in UK. So, it
offer different types of job opportunities to eligible candidates. Employees are also interested to
work with such a reputed company. There are some key values on which they work such as they
care about their people and passengers, they believe in making difference together and they aim
to achieve the best in everything. This company ensures that any employee working under them
should at-least pursue these main motives.
According to …...prior training is given to trainee so that they can adjust with
environment of the company and get to know about their roles. Mentors are assigned to mentee
for supervision as they are experienced and can effectively guide their mentee with proper

training aids and relevant information. They should ensure that employees get effective training
in there respective roles. Various methods such as audio- visual aids, smart rooms, E- learning
are used to make their learning more efficient and easy.
A good training program leads to overall development of employee. Talented employees
also increases organisation overall revenue.
Eastern company offer some kind of benefits such as a good salary package, pension
schemes, generous annual holiday packages, provide full training facilities, more career
development opportunities, free travel benefits to various places etc which help them to attract
and retain more employees. These perks motivate employees to work harder and perform their
best to produce great results.
This is how company put great efforts in developing their employees by providing them
with necessary requirements for training and effective learning.
2.2 Advantages of improvement in employees learning on company performance
According to.......it is vital for every organisation to have talented staff members at
workstation. As market has a dynamic nature thus, firms faces so many changes in tools,
techniques and technologies from time to time. For sustaining at marketplace it is mandatory for
firms to adapt those alterations in an effective manner. This helps them in making long term
relations with consumers as quality gets increased of products and services. New technology
brings risks with it for firms. Therefore, management should evaluate impact of modifications
that is going to put on profitability. Employees do not like changes as they have to start learning
new things away from responsibilities that they had earlier. Here, training and development
programmes can be conducted by executives of South-Eastern Railway Ltd to improvise skills
and knowledge of staff members and away from this, information related to changes that they
have made can be given at the same time. Continuation of this process mad lead company to
enhance both productivity and profitability in effective way.
2.3 Methods used by South-eastern railway in London for employees improvement
According to ….....it is stated that number of techniques are identifies which might be
used by company to enhance their employees performance in order to maximize company sales.
In fact, their main objective is to facilitate consumer with advanced technology so that they feel
comfortable while travelling process. Hence, some of the essential tools which is used by an

Conducting training or development programmes:- There are almost two different kinds
of technique to teach the employees such as; off the job and on the job training. These
two methods are totally different from each other in various aspect. For example; if an
individuals is learning things from their supervisor while performing job under them or
by following department head is consider as a on the job training. On contrary to this if a
person is acquiring learning away from organization is seen as off the job. Seminars or conferences:- Lectures at workplace to provide them necessary information
about specific subject.
Online services:- Assist employees to improve their learning by seeing advanced
technology like internet facilities because in this techniques there is absence of third
party.

3.1 Type of research
Researcher is the one who identifies the research types and then investigates on set
objectives. Methods are of two types and these are qualitative and quantitative. In qualitative
type of method investigation rely on data which is related to quality only. Thus, this whole
research report can be stated as relying upon qualitative sort of method. The reason why this
method has been chosen because it gives clear facts and figures which helps in reaching out to a
suitable and authenticated conclusion.
3.2 Research design
This gives an overview to the investigator of research that he/she is doing. By this
researcher can fix times of every single activity and also can assume cost of whole research
project. In this context, factors that includes are : collection, measurement and assembling the
data which is related to set objective. Apart from this, it can also be classified into various design

approaches are : Inductive and deductive. In this current project, approach that has been selected
is inductive and method is qualitative in nature. Apart from this, investigator can examine ample

3.5 Data sampling
In this context, researcher gets the opportunity to choose a sample from ample number of
people. Hypothesis includes, two different sampling techniques and these are : Probabilistic and
non – probabilistic. It is up to investigator which technique is best suitable for taking appropriate
information depending on situations. Under this current report, sampling technique which has
been taken under is purposive. This can help researcher to get authenticated and appropriate data
or information so that desired target can be achieved. Sample size under this report which has
been taken under is of 50 persons. These persons are regular customer in nature who are
fulfilling their requirements by utilising quality products or services of enterprises.

3.6 Data Analysis

3.7 Ethical Consideration
While conducting a research, investigator goes through many problems and issues which
