Chapter 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1: Introduction
Research Methodology is explained as the plans and action which are required to conduct
any of the specific research. It is helpful for every researcher because it tells that how they can
conduct the whole research process in systematic manner. Also, it will tell that what are those
data which can be required while conducting the research. Overall, it gives the idea that how any
of the researcher can conduct whole of the process in successful manner.
3.2: Research philosophy
There are basically two types of research philosophy and they are interpretivism &
positivism. By looking at the requirement of above research it can be said that research will
required interpretivism as it will give them the idea to do evaluate of each and every data in a
systematic manner. While talking about positivism philosophy, it says that research can be done
easily by doing experiments, observation on the specific topic.
3.3: Research Approach: This section is categorised into three different parts and they are
Deductive, Inductive and Abductive. Talking about Deduction approach it will give them the idea
that what percentage of assumption is true and fair. On the other hand, inductive approach is
suitable at the time of developing new theories and concept.
3.4: Research Choice: It is divided into two section and they are qualitative & quantitative. In
term of quantitative, researcher is needed to do group discussion, , interview and other ground
survey. On the other hand, qualitative research is used in the case where there is requirement to
collect relevant information in number and facts. Both of these research is helpful where final
choice is researcher that which one they like to select.
3.5: Time Horizon: It is one of the part of research in which researcher is required to clarify
about the starting and ending time of the project. Gantt Chart is the best option which can help to
accomplish all of the activity within specific time period.
3.6: Research design: It is one of the most essential work for any of the researcher where they
are required to manage the whole research program in systematic manner which can help them to
deal with any sort of issues might arise during research process. It is helpful for researcher in
collecting information and according to that best decisions can be taken. For this research,
descriptive design is much favourable because it will allow to collect all of the importance
aspect for conducting research.

3.7: Sources of data: Every researcher have the option to collect data from different sources
where they have the option to go for primary and secondary. In primary source, all of the
information will be collected by conducting interviews and asking questions. While talking about

completion of project work. Through the Gantt chart, a researcher can view all tasks individually,

From the above literature review discussion it is cleared that workplace discrimination
termed as an unfair treatment with the workers of an organisation who are working together. All
employees are different from each other on many basis or discriminations such as age, sex, race,
nationality as well as so forth factors that can create challenges for a company as well as create
confusions among all (Heilman, 2018). It is termed as a unlawful consideration or activity that
presents in the environment of a working organisation which results in delay in accomplishment
of objectives on timely basis as well as decrease the productivity, performance as well as
profitability of a business entity. If these issues are not responds timely then it will create a huge
problem in future also which also spoil the company reputation and image in the marketplace that
negatively impacts. In order to that several laws and regulations are formed for securing the
rights of all employees that are commenced by viewing all discriminations of all staff which
belongs to the different community.
It can also be analysed that due to the workplace discrimination, workers does not feel
better in order to effectively performed as well as contribute their best efforts towards the
achievement of organisational objectives. Along with this, they do not feel connected and exclude
themselves from the organisational activities which will negatively impact on their performance
as well as productivity. Sometimes, it may cause in psychological effect that results in increase
stress and anxiety issues among employees and they feel demotivated and dissatisfied while
doing tasks in an organisation (Fine, 2018). Also, conflicts among employees increases at a great
extent that can be difficult to control effectively so a company need to formulate appropriate
strategies as well as develop positive and strong culture at their workplace which results in timely
achievement of objectives and better growth and success of organisation. When workers face this
kind of problems regularly then they are not able to make decisions towards their working and
unable to increase the level of their productivity and profitability at individual level.
There are several strategies and ways that should be adopted by a company in order to
resolve the issues of employees elated to the workplace discrimination as per the situations which
can results in effective achievements and performance. Mainly, the company requires to focus on
maintaining equality at their workplace which gives equal rights to all people or workers while
they are working together. This will assist in creating healthy relationships with each other as
well as take decisions together that gives more valuable results (Dhanani, 2018).

It has been concluded from the above report that workplace discrimination consider as a
major issue at the company's workplace that results in the lack of performance level and

may effect their performance (Gordon, 2018). Half of the total respondents does not know about
the impacts or effects of discrimination at working environment that directly influence their own
performance so a company requires to give more efforts on the awareness of employees towards
these concepts and impacts.

Conclusion
It has been concluded from the above report that workplace discrimination consider as a
major issue at the company's workplace that results in the lack of performance level and
productivity. As it has been analysed that some people are not aware about the concept of
workplace diversity that is related to the differences in nationality, age, sex, race etc. factors of
employees who are working together and they all have different values, beliefs and culture which
may effect their performance (Gordon, 2018). Half of the total respondents does not know about
the impacts or effects of discrimination at working environment that directly influence their own
performance so a company requires to give more efforts on the awareness of employees towards
these concepts and impacts.
In addition, more people thinks that the main cause of discrimination is age and colour as
well as disability of people that are highly supported the diversity at workplace and they thinks
that it negatively impacts on the performance and productivity of employees. Also, most of the
people believes that workplace discrimination impacts on employees as it creates the situation of

REFLECTION
I am very thankful to all who gives me an opportunity to conduct research on a specific
topic within the context of well reputed organisation which is Tesco plc as it helps in enhancing
my overall personality as well as knowledge towards the impacts of workplace discrimination. I
was utilised my skills as well as knowledge appropriately towards the concepts, impacts and
effective ways and strategies for resolving these issues. As a result of research project many
challenges and issues are evaluate and resolved effectively that is related to the employee job
dissatisfaction, low productivity and performance, interpersonal conflicts as well as many more
that are appropriately solved by adopting strategies such as providing training and education,
develop positive workplace as well as effective policies that helps in achieving the organisational
objectives.
As I personally realised that this investigation gives various improvements in my
research, communication, analytical thinking as well as decision-making ability. In addition, I
face issues related to the lack of time and resources as well as ineffective utilisation of
informations. These issues can be solved by using work break down structure and Gantt chart that
provides a specific guidelines and time frame which helps in completing tasks in appropriate
manner. Also, I devoted some extra time to complete this project that gives results in completion
of tasks or research work on time.
