The Seven QC (Quality Control) Tools

Cause and Effect Tool
Cause and effect tool is also called the Fish Bone tool and is effective in chalking out the reasons
that are contributing to a ‘defect’ in the functioning of the organization. When there is a cause
there are effects and vice versa. If the effects are tracked down properly then the causes are also
identified and depending on the effect, the number of causes may vary (Owusu & Duah 2018).
Cause and effect tool is used in identifying the causes of the problems which helps in faster
problem solving and targeting of the problem area with effective strategies (Hazır 2015).
The reason why it is called a fish bone tool is because in tracking down the problem the diagram
that looks like the fish bone. In the diagram below, the tool is being represented:
