Analysis of AI can help in crime prevention, but we still need a human in charge
The following is the review of the article named AI can help in crime prevention, but we
still need a human in charge written and published by David Tuffley (Tuffley, 2018). The
author in this article has stressed on the usage of the artificial intelligence (AI) in the recent times
and how it will help the technology to control the movements of the human beings. There are
definitely both positive and negative sides of this aspect.
The author believes this system will be able to track the movements of the people, have
an idea on whom they meet and activities they do. The ultimate cause of this system is to
improve the capabilities of the police forces and enabling them to be sharper in their works. The
author is of the opinion that this process will definitely help to reduce the rate of crimes in
different countries and their respective societies (Tuffley, 2018). Still, I want to mention in this
context that the government might impose some limitations on the overall movements of
common people, even if it is an emergency case (Osoba & Welser, 2017). The theory of the
utilitarianism will be crucial in this scenario. If the implementation of the face recognition
system through AI helps the common people of the countries, it will definitely be helpful. On the
contrary, it cannot help the forces if the operators of the system are not clever and smart enough.
The author has detailed his views on the autonomous artificial intelligence that can check
down the criminal activities completely. Therefore, there is a high need that the society will truly
be benefitted by this. In the paragraph no 14, the incident of 9/11 has been used an example and
the usefulness of the surveillance and research has been shown. The 21st paragraph in the article
has given the statistics that around 15 terror attacks had been stopped because the defense forces
used the computer algorithms.
