Summary
This study will be developed for analyse the use of CAM for treating Type II Diabetes in
women. Established medication can be effective for reducing the risk of diabetes by controlling
the sugar level within the bloodstream. This research will be done for providing information
about medication to reduce prevalence of type II diabetes in the Malaysia’s women population.
Systematic review will be done in this research and for the data collection process, secondary
sources that are similar to this current research will be used. The reason for choosing secondary
data is the vastness of the collected sample, which will be helpful in deriving a more specific
conclusion for the research. This study will be designed for understanding the benefits of
alternative medicine rather than conventional medicines for the treatment of type-II diabetes.
Differences in use of alternative and conventional medicines will be analysed for the better
outcome of diabetes treatment. Problems for using conventional medicines and their negative
impact will be identified for comparison with alternative medicines. In this research, strategies
will be suggested for use of alternative medicine to mitigate the impact of type II diabetes
disease in women of Malaysia.

Background of the research
Research context
Type-II diabetes is regarded as a serious health condition and can cause life threatening
complications. In 2019 around 463 million people were having diabetes disease and most of
countries are experiencing increase in patients with Type 2 diabetes. Around 374 million are also
at a risk that they are likely to develop Type 2 diabetes. Considering these facts, Type 2 diabetes
becomes most common form and type of diabetes disease and 90% of overall diabetes cases are
of Type 2 diabetes (Diabetes facts & figures, (2020). Use of proper medicine and changed in
lifestyle has been considered to be beneficial in achieving significant benefits for those who are
suffering from this condition. Due to a substantial increment in the risk of cardiovascular
diseases, due to diabetes, 35% of the total Malaysian mortality has been affected. As per the
findings of Oguntibeju, (2019) the overall prevalence of prediabetes in Malaysia was 22.1%,
among which women are reported to be more prone to this condition. Type-II diabetes has been
reported to be increasing at an significant rate and this condition is now one of the most common
long-term health conditions across the world.
For the conventional treatment of diabetes, mostly medicines that are responsible for blood sugar
level reduction are prescribed to the patients such as injections of insulin and Rybelsus
(semaglutide). An alternative medicine prescribed in the case of type-II diabetes includes a
changes in the diet, acupuncture, additional supplements, yoga therapy and hydrotherapy. These
are only some examples of alternative medicine for type II and other medicines are also there.
Complementary medicine for the treatment of type-II diabetes includes various nutritional
supplements such as garlic, cinnamon, chromium, polyphenol and ginseng (Edelman and
Polonsky, (2017).
Literature Review
Furmli et al. (2018) have stated that type-II diabetes is a chronic condition that is interconnected
to an epidemic of obesity. They further stated that long-term medical assistance is necessary in
order to prevent the further development of macrovascular and microvascular complexities from
