INTRODUCTION
Sustainable development of tourism refers to use of tourist place without harming or
exploitation of naturals, culture, and all other resources of tourist from present generation or in
others words the preservation of tourism place for future use by future generation. The
development of tourism is largely depended on natural and anthropogenic quality which are
present in surroundings. To follow the practising of sustainable development become more and
more important for tourism industry as they need to focus or considered all factors that can
affects function of tourism industry. This report is based on Paris destination in order to
understand the impact of Covid-19 on tourism. In which the economic parameters with overview
of destination is discussed in context of tourism. As well as it covers some area that need to be
reform in order to rebuild destination with resilient and sustainability. At the end two priority
lines is also mentioned on the bases of UNWTO report and sustainable development Goals.
Destination in context of tourism related activities along with economy parameters.
Paris is the capital of France, which is one of the most beautiful and influences many
tourist throughout the year. In context of Tourism it is the second most visited place of Europe
after London. It consist various tourism place such as Eiffel tower, centre Georges Pompidou,
Arc de Triomphe, Musee du Louvre Museum etc. It is mention as city of lights because this city
was the first which adopted gas street lightning. In Paris every year several tourists come to visit
major destinations and enjoy travelling throughout the city (Brouder, 2017).
In tourism, economy plays a vital role as it contributes towards the development of
country. The generation of income, employment and foreign exchange earning all these factors
of economy aids tourism destination along with country. The impact of economy due to this
industry varies from one place to another in term of specific characteristics of country. This
sector is totally independent with other sectors of economy due to this it become difficult to
analyse and plan for tourism. In which the most affected sector due to corona virus is this
tourism sector. This mainly affects the economy of nation as several employee get unemployed
as well as the GDP of nation is also decline (Goffi, 2019).
Paris is the most visited destination place of France with international tourism it
generates revenue over $ 10 billion in a year. Tourist of France is at height with total 89.4
million visitors in 2018 and 100 million in 2020 in which the 40 million visitors are of Paris city
only in year 2018 and 15 million in 2020. This is the most visited place in 2020. The tourism

industry contributes 198.3 billion Euros in French economy as well as creates 2.8 billion jobs
there ultimately. They jumped by 3 % in year 2018 from 2017. And presently they are targeting
100 million foreign tourists. In which all these factors of economy is affected by the corona virus
in major part as the rate of unemployment is increases, the average rate of income is also
declined due to this covid-19 (Bunakov, 2017).. It is just because of restriction of government
that are introduced by government for the welfare of people. The restriction that is implemented
by government are banning of entry of people from other country this will leads the extreme loss
of tourist for visiting Paris.
Impact of Coivd-19 on Paris’s tourism activities
The Covid-19 pandemic leaves a huge impact on tourism due to travel or social gathering
at one place. The result of this pandemic is many countries and regions have obligate
quarantines, entry ban, and so any other restrictions for citizens which puts vast impact on
economy of nation. The main important income sources of Paris is tourism, and which is affected
the mostly because of this pandemic. The GDP of this country is affected as well as the average
rate of national income. As the hotels are closed due to restriction of gathering of people at one
place, the society is facing too many difficulties. This is one of the major reasons which seeks
attention of the government in order to increase the healthcare facilities in order to stop this
virus.
Apart from this, the UNWTO's have introduced travel restriction due to this pandemic in
which around 45% of total destination is partially or fully closed for tourist which affects the
economy and revenue generation from tourism sectors. Around $ 910 to $ 1.2 trillion loss in
export revenue is happened from tourism sector which is in large quantity. As well as the job of
employee is also get risky around 100 to 120 million people get unemployed due to this

The tourism sector is currently one of the ambitious hit by outbreak of corona virus
diseases which puts impacts on both supply and demand of tourism related activities. Many of
destination implemented the lock-down and travel restriction which ban the entry of other
country people this leads towards decline of economic scale of nation due to extreme loss in
tourist numbers.. Apart from this, many people loss their job and becomes unemployed. That
also affects the average income ratio of nation.

essential to rebuild the destination along with resilient and sustainable lines (Farzanegan,
2020).In which there are several area where critically reinvention and reform are required in
context of Paris, the chosen destination is explained in detailed:
Corporate training and consultancy: In these area then mangers of tourism industry can
offer training session to their workers related with the safety and security in order to maintain
hygiene and sustainability. As it has seen that there is a strong connection in between tourism
and public health. The corporate training should be provided by professional and trained
management experts in order to develop the staffs which are there to manage the tourist’s
destinations. There are different agencies which are dedicated in providing effective corporate
training and consultancy to many people (Degarege, 2019. Developing these synergies between
public health and tourism is an opportunity for tourism towards preparation for future crisis
which builds confidence and trust. Introducing social distancing measures and safety protocols
need not be new barriers for visitors even it is beneficial for them.
Social inclusion: The covid19 mainly affects the business of small and medium
enterprise of tourism approximately 80% across globally. In which many employees of tourism
are nevertheless taking lead in supporting their workers and helping communities in which they
operates. Embracing digital technologies can contribute to the business continuity like use of
internet to spread mass awareness can be beneficial to spread crucial information related to
Covid-19. In context of Paris, the tourism acts as sole activity for generating revenue and
building consumer base which supports business towards diversification along with it increases
the resilience. With the help of digital technology it is possible to attract large number of tourists
from the society (Cheung, 2019). It is essential to use social media to spread mass awareness
about the disease and minimum public should be invited in order to visit tourist destinations.
Social inclusion will play a crucial role in the enhancement of tourist activities in Paris.
Public Health: In order to rebuild the destination, tourism industry of Paris can introduce

was going very well in Paris. The public health is always priority of government in order to do
precise welfare of the society. Earlier the focus of government was majorly on tourism, now the
focus should be on medical facilities to bring back major tourists to the country. It is essential
create a sustainable tourism in the country in order to facilitate future generations. The
government must plan effectively for the sustainability in tourism and formulate sustainable
strategies which modifies current systems in a positive manner.

the society, the government should become more attentive now and formulate an effective plan
to eliminate Covid-19. In the economy the government is adversely affected with the spread of
Covid-19, it is essential for government to bring effective department to deal with the issue as
well as the government should lead and develop mass strategy to deal with the consequences.
Along with actions and plans of government, it is also essential for the society to follow general
rules and regulations in order to attract large number of tourists. The implementation of plans

and policies which are formulated by the government is also essential so the government should
formulate an effective monitoring team in order to deal with the consequences.
Apart from this, it provides various benefits to employees of tourism in term of learning
as they get opportunity towards enhancement of skills and knowledge related with safety and
security of visitors. This aids tourism industry also as they will be able to follow all rules and
regulation or policies that is introduce by government towards pandemic. This will leads tourism
industry towards sustainable development.
If the recovery plan which has been formulated by government agencies has been
successfully implemented or aligned with the framework that is identified with the UNWTO'S
report and UN Sustainable development goal it will help tourism.
Challenges face by tourism due to Covid-19
According to the view point of (Bafna, 2020), tourism industry deals with so many
challenges while making destination again after covid-19. In which some major challenges that
face by the small scale tourism operates is to close their business because of Crumbling
consumer demands, decrease in cash reserve and lack of approach towards flexibility of credit.
And at the same time the large scale tourism operators of Paris also faces some significant
challenges because the demand of consumer is not fulfil or recover soon. In tourism some of the
existing player or well established competitor regenerates their strategies in order to grab more
people towards even that, this pandemic is likely to fuel consolidation. As the tourism sector is
likely able to recover lesser in both employment and revenue. The economic crises major hinder
the sustainability of tourism sector as the plans and strategies which were formulated by
government now demands major change.
According to the (Butler, 2018), the major challenges that face by tourism industry after
corona virus is to extensive loss of tourists that decline the scale of economy of France. Due to
this several employee loss their job and become unemployed.
All these challenges can be overcome by adopting some changes in strategies and
policies for the welfare of public such as they permits only those people or visitors who carry
negative report of Covid-19 with themselves. As well as by opting all rules and policies that

rebuild or overcome these challenges. This approach will create a mass awareness and alertness

organisation in order to maintain the sustainability development of Tourism Industry. They
ensure a coordination and effective response. Due to travel ban, border closures they faces
massive loss in tourist revenue particularly at international level. In order to response this virus
the implemented social distancing even if this situation makes tourism highly vulnerable, the
tourism sector gets a unique position towards contribution of recovery plan and action. As they
developed opportunity and promote solidarity to foster cohesions nations. All these factors
support tourism industry to combat with this crisis.
In integration to above discussed action the priority line of action can be social
distancing which is identified by government of country as it is the most important factor
presently while considering public welfare as this will rebuild the destination along with more
resilient and sustainable line. This will aids tourism sector towards revenue generation from
foreign currency that will ultimately increase or scale up the scale of economy.
In addition to this the another priority line could be people 1st program which is carried
out for improving and increasing the knowledge of employees (Li,, 2020.). This program
generally offers opportunity to workers of tourism sector to learn more about safety and security
the need to be taken while dealing with the visitors. This will provides benefits to all visitors,
employee as well as owners of tourism enterprises. The programme is basically dedicated in
providing skills and training to different employees in order develops a critical approach in
handling several consequences.
From above it has been analysed that ii become crucial for tourism industry to considers
all facts and policies of government in order to carry out all function and activities in smooth and
effective way without any hindrance of government if they will not adopt all these factors then
there will be chances of cancelling of their licences which is not good for them. All the facts that
are proposed were UNTWO and UN sustainable development is for well fare of public. This will
aids benefits to each and every individual towards safety that is the most important part of life.

From above discussed report it can be concluded that tourism industry is one of the most
affected industry by Covid-19 such as economic crises, enhancement of unemployment in
tourism sector etc. and for sustainability development of tourism industry it become important to
considered all policies and facts that are introduced by the government towards public welfare .
In which the most important policies that every tourism need to follow is social distancing as
well as to put mask on face whiling visiting any destination. As Covid -19 puts a vast impact on
tourism industry so for them it becomes important to rebuild the destination along with more
resilient and sustainable lines which requires various interventions in public health and social
inclusion. In which two priority line is also selected this is aligned with UNWTO report and
sustainable development growth i.e. social distance and people 1st program.
