Introduction
Rehabilitation is considered "a set of procedures that aim to improve functionality and improve
the quality of life in people with health issues." In a simple manner, rehabilitation enables
children, adults, or elderly people to become as productive in daily activities and to participate in
education, job, entertainment, and quality life tasks such as caring for family members. It
accomplishes this by addressing underlying disorders (such as pain) and enhancing an
individual's daily functioning, assisting them in overcoming issues with cognition, perceiving,
listening, interacting, eating, or roaming around (Who, 2022).
The ultimate purpose of rehabilitation is to assist people in regaining their talents and regaining
their independence. However, each person's objectives are unique. They are determined by what
led to the problem, whether it is continuing or momentary, which skills people lost, and the
severity of the condition (Medlineplus, 2022). This report aims to assist people by taking
rehabilitation procedures and understanding the objective of rehabilitation programs and
implementing it.
Case Study
This case is about Edward who is currently 80 years old. Edward was a heavy drinker and
smoker from his late twenties. His continuous habit has affected his old age. He has been
suffering from serious cardiac disease and he has had a breathing problem since his mid-fifties.
He also has been losing his memory power and has been forgetful. He hardly remembers
anything. It is concerning that his physical and mental health is being deteriorated day by day.
Due to his bad health condition, his family has decided to adopt a rehabilitation program for the
improvement of his health condition of Edward. The goals chosen by the family members for
Edward’s rehabilitation are:
1. Reduce the impairing effects of chronic health conditions.
2. Enhance his memory power.
3. Improve his physical and mental health.
